Sept. 21-22 Open Football Thread

This is probably the worst weekend of the season, college football-wise. Lots and lots of uncompetitive “action.” Here is what I see as a viewing guide for today:

10:00a – Everton at West Ham, NBCSN (Extra Time, channel 1520 for TWC-NC HD feed). Start your day with the English Premier League soccer Pack, trying to avoid a letdown after last week’s gutty upset of asshole franchise Chelsea. As far as I can tell, my constant cheerleading has produced exactly zero new Toffee fans across the pond. Boo. If I’m wrong, you can experience match day with me (Evertonian in NC) and my mostly British cohorts here. It’s a fun, profane group that will sort of remind you of SFN.

Noon – I got nothing here. I may watch the end of GT/Holes if the Bees are winning comfortably. Maybe. Go talk to your family or something equally distasteful.

3:30p – Tennessee at Florida, CBS; West by God Virginia at Maryland, ESPNU. Two games among teams that probably aren’t very good, but have shown signs of being potentially interesting. It would represent HUGE progress for Butch Jones at Tennessee and Randy Edsall at Maryland to beat hated rivals a bit on the downswing. And hate is usually fun to watch.

7:00ish-p – Arizona State at Stanford, Fox; Auburn at LSU, ESPN. Both games would be far more interesting if the road/home splits were reversed…but I will take what I can get. Nobody is totally sold on just how good the Tree or Mad Hatters are this year, and this will be at least a moderate test for both. Certainly not watching the flaming bag of feces that is ABC’s national game – Michigan at winless UConn. Blech.

A little balance in life is nice. Bees can start taking knees.

Renner couldn’t score with a mattress tied to his back with a roll of hundreds in each hand despite attending a college where every student and alum has a pus–.

Thomas is overrated if anyone considers him as much as marginally competent. He’s putrid.

Being a college student and totally unable to enjoy yourself (even in moderation) IS a bad thing.

    Fedora is a moron.

They had the lead at half, on the road, in the RAIN, and still didn’t try to run the ball. They have AJ Blue, man. LOL.

    @LRM,
    Book sense vs Common sense

Some folks will never get it.

    That’s kinda the point.

Atlanta is to UNC what Winston-Salem is to State.

    Marshall-VT going to OT.

  7. BJD95 09/21/2013 at 3:22 PM #

About to see the most boring overtime ever.

Freakin’ White took our Duke passes away when he came on board as AD. What an as*hole.

If we had ’em still, just the CD family alone could account for 20% of the attendance.

Still bitter ’bout THAT Santaria bitch Le Croix, pulling the reverse hex-a-meka ding ding on me Thursday. Shoulda bolted when I saw what she did to the place. And if that wasn’t enough, the portrait in the foyer should have done it…The one with TOB and her, arms wrapped around each others waist…Hawaiian shirts, and a layer of beads around their neck.

On the plus side …haven’t had any body parts fall off yet.

Neither team can kick FGs. Might take 4 or 5 OTs for anyone to score.

Wow, VT is having a miserable game. Serious opportunity for Marshall.

Walk on kicker asked to kick a 50-yd fg on his second career attempt, in the rain. Tough situation.

  12. BJD95 09/21/2013 at 3:33 PM #

Marshall runs up the middle three times to kick a long FG in the pouring rain. Because Doc Holliday apparently learned strategery from Chuck the Clown.

  13. LRM 09/21/2013 at 3:34 PM #

    Sadly BJD may be right.

Dave Doeren was not in fact killed on the sideline by a crashing airplane. So cowdog needs to give Billy some credit after all.

OK, nobody else has said it so I guess I have to….

Wounded turkeys with the digital camo look hideous. Thank God they at least went with mostly white so it’s not as visible on camera.

Wuf – do you have to cheer for the Terps since they are “hosting” in Charm City this week?

  18. Wufpacker 09/21/2013 at 3:42 PM #

    OK…Beej, I love ya…

But you could get smacked down for even thinking such things…let alone saying them publicly.

  19. BJD95 09/21/2013 at 3:43 PM #

I told you guys – this shite will go on ad infinitum.

  20. Wufpacker 09/21/2013 at 3:43 PM #

    VT/Marshall travesty continues.

You know it’s a bad sign when there’s a “splash” when the holder puts the ball down for the FG attempt.

  21. TheCOWDOG 09/21/2013 at 3:44 PM #

    Yep…that, too Beej.

An over player’s wet dream at Rose Bowl East.

And keeping with Derm theme, Vlad dispatches the effite in Georgia.

  22. BJD95 09/21/2013 at 3:49 PM #

FL and TN have traded turnovers already. A day of horrid football all around.

PI on a pass that would never be caught in these conditions. Sooooo stupid.

Mayor Carcetti confirms that Wuf’s special edition “Fear the Turtle…With Crabcakes!” T-shirt is in the mail.

  23. Fastback68 09/21/2013 at 3:51 PM #

    Nice kick spartan.

  24. LRM 09/21/2013 at 3:51 PM #

Missed FGs an epidemic today. Michigan State misses a 30-yarder on its opening drive.
