Sept. 21-22 Open Football Thread

This is probably the worst weekend of the season, college football-wise. Lots and lots of uncompetitive “action.” Here is what I see as a viewing guide for today:

10:00a – Everton at West Ham, NBCSN (Extra Time, channel 1520 for TWC-NC HD feed). Start your day with the English Premier League soccer Pack, trying to avoid a letdown after last week’s gutty upset of asshole franchise Chelsea. As far as I can tell, my constant cheerleading has produced exactly zero new Toffee fans across the pond. Boo. If I’m wrong, you can experience match day with me (Evertonian in NC) and my mostly British cohorts here. It’s a fun, profane group that will sort of remind you of SFN.

Noon – I got nothing here. I may watch the end of GT/Holes if the Bees are winning comfortably. Maybe. Go talk to your family or something equally distasteful.

3:30p – Tennessee at Florida, CBS; West by God Virginia at Maryland, ESPNU. Two games among teams that probably aren’t very good, but have shown signs of being potentially interesting. It would represent HUGE progress for Butch Jones at Tennessee and Randy Edsall at Maryland to beat hated rivals a bit on the downswing. And hate is usually fun to watch.

7:00ish-p – Arizona State at Stanford, Fox; Auburn at LSU, ESPN. Both games would be far more interesting if the road/home splits were reversed…but I will take what I can get. Nobody is totally sold on just how good the Tree or Mad Hatters are this year, and this will be at least a moderate test for both. Certainly not watching the flaming bag of feces that is ABC’s national game – Michigan at winless UConn. Blech.

    LOLOLOLOL

That GT commercial was the greatest!! YOU CAN DO THAT!!

  2. Wufpacker 09/21/2013 at 1:32 PM #

GT somehow manages to not shoot themselves in the foot to pull to within one score before halftime. 20-14.

Nice coachspeak Fedora. Controlling the weather wasn’t what he asked you.

    Douche.

Castrated turkeys trailing in the economically depressed mining area bowl. Fittingly, it’s a grey and rainy day.

Haven’t been watching, but I imagine that Wake/Army qualifies as a crime against humanity.

LMAO @ economically depressed mining bowl.

And I don’t know about humanity, but Wake/Army has definitely been a crime against televised sports until the Wake blind squirrel found their nut.

  7. Wufpacker 09/21/2013 at 1:47 PM #

LOL…even Rece Davis saying today’s slate of games sucks.

Though he did say it more nicely.

“Wake blind squirrel finds a nut” – Truer words seldom posted! Then they went on to try to screw the pooch before half.

Three run homer, and Army pulls within 10-8.

  10. BJD95 09/21/2013 at 2:16 PM #

And all ye gamblers degenerate enough to have scrilla on Duke/Pitt…hope you took the over.

Castrated turkeys turn it over on downs.

Don’t overlook the battle of absurdity that is Vandy/UMass on ESPNNews. Thank God they found a channel on which to show that one.

Army manages to put one thru the uprights, and take a commanding 11-10 lead.

    Someone please pass the cyanide.

    Helluva crowd in Durham.

They must be giving away a free bowl of soup with every paid admission.

LMAO, maybe attending Duke football also counts as community service.

VA Tech having a Richmond type game trailing Marshall by 7

  17. redcanine 09/21/2013 at 2:54 PM #

Those Duke fans will be there until their Kindles need recharging.

  18. WolftownVA81 09/21/2013 at 3:01 PM #

Gutsy 4th down call for VA Tech. They are about to tie it up.

^Speaking of: Me and some buddies were at the DBAP on Duke college night some years ago. The majority of the section around us had textbooks and were actively studying. One girl even complained about how the noise was distracting her.

You’ll never convince me that isn’t typical of the average Duke student.

Tie game in depressed mining area. Can’t express enough just how dull and mediocre VPI is.

One more first down and it’s ballgame. Godhigh is a cool ass name.

  22. WolftownVA81 09/21/2013 at 3:13 PM #

Logan is overrated as are the Hokies this year. They got a break on that tipped ball touch down.

Are you saying this is a bad thing?

Godhigh IS a coolass last name.

^Sitting at a Bulls game trying to study and complaining because it’s too noisy? Yes, I’m saying that’s a bad thing.
