This is probably the worst weekend of the season, college football-wise. Lots and lots of uncompetitive “action.” Here is what I see as a viewing guide for today:
10:00a – Everton at West Ham, NBCSN (Extra Time, channel 1520 for TWC-NC HD feed). Start your day with the English Premier League soccer Pack, trying to avoid a letdown after last week’s gutty upset of asshole franchise Chelsea. As far as I can tell, my constant cheerleading has produced exactly zero new Toffee fans across the pond. Boo. If I’m wrong, you can experience match day with me (Evertonian in NC) and my mostly British cohorts here. It’s a fun, profane group that will sort of remind you of SFN.
Noon – I got nothing here. I may watch the end of GT/Holes if the Bees are winning comfortably. Maybe. Go talk to your family or something equally distasteful.
3:30p – Tennessee at Florida, CBS; West by God Virginia at Maryland, ESPNU. Two games among teams that probably aren’t very good, but have shown signs of being potentially interesting. It would represent HUGE progress for Butch Jones at Tennessee and Randy Edsall at Maryland to beat hated rivals a bit on the downswing. And hate is usually fun to watch.
7:00ish-p – Arizona State at Stanford, Fox; Auburn at LSU, ESPN. Both games would be far more interesting if the road/home splits were reversed…but I will take what I can get. Nobody is totally sold on just how good the Tree or Mad Hatters are this year, and this will be at least a moderate test for both. Certainly not watching the flaming bag of feces that is ABC’s national game – Michigan at winless UConn. Blech.
