Richard Howell Gets His Chance with the Trail Blazers (Update)

Richard Howell is one of the hardest working players we’ve had at NC State in a long time and his work ethic and dedication has paid off. According to Howell’s twitter, the Portland Trail Blazers have called the undersized big man in from France.

France was a great experience, Portland Trailblazers have given me a huge opportunity.

Good luck rich, State fans everywhere are pulling for you.

**UPDATE**

According to Howell’s agent, Howell had been bought out from his French team and flew to the States to sign his new deal on Friday. He has agreed to sign a partially guaranteed contract with the Blazers

    Go for it Rich. Watching Richard Howell play always reminds me of Charles Barkley. He was undersized, could not jump but had a Hall of Fame Heart. He found a way to become a leading rebounder and scorer and the heart and soul of every team he played for. His golf game still sucks.

    In nearly 50 years as a State basketball fan, only Googs compares in terms of improvement over the course of his career. Richard Howell has worked his rail off for this opportunity. Congrats Richard.

    Evidently Portland has 15 guaranteed contracts on the books now, and most Portland blogs feel like Richard will end up in the D league. That said, maybe this could be like RW in Seattle, and Howell works himself onto the roster in front of a higher paid guy.

    Leslie averaged 9 points for the Knicks in D League action this summer. Woodson called him very talented but with a ways to go. Lorenzo Brown was very solid for the Timberwolves. Will be very interesting to track these careers.
