NC State’s American flag helmet

NC State’s ‘Block S’ will be fused with the American flag to create a patriotic helmet that the team will wear for Military Appreciation Night this Saturday at Carter-Finley Stadium.

I’d say it looks pretty sharp.

Still no word as to if the Pack will ever take a step towards the pro combat helmets we shared before last season – linked here. I think it would be neat.

Excuse me, but the field of stars is in the wrong corner or the stripes are running the wrong way. Please let this picture be off, not the decal on the helmet.

I love the concept but not the execution.

The field of stars is in the correct position:

When displayed vertically the union should be uppermost and to the observer’s left.

OK How about the vertical stripes?

Love it! I think*. Stripes look right to me.

Could probably auction off some of those and donate proceeds to Wounded Warriors or a similarly focused charitable organization.

*At first glance, this use doesn’t seem to be in accordance with official flag etiquette. But I’m assuming/hoping we did the requisite checks and approvals and all is kosher. Please tell me Annabelle wasn’t involved.

    GW,

“When displayed vertically…” – Think of it as hanging on a wall, not flying on a flagpole.

foose, I saw similar concerns expressed on another site, where someone claiming to be part of a military color guard indicated that the design meets all requirements for flag displays.

As for being kosher, I’m starting to have doubts. You’re not supposed to print flags on disposable things like napkins and paper plates. That looks pretty disposable to me.

Our flag nor our school colors include black, wish we would get rid of it. The logo at mid field would look so much better without the black.

    Hopefully Saturday is Abueatiful day!

I just want to say “Thank you” to all of you Wolfpack military members; past and present. Semper Fi! GO PACK!

All, I am now satisfied that the decal correctly and properly orients the union and the stripes. One of the AD’s communicated with me several times, providing both written code and flags demonstrating that the decal is in compliance.

As odd as it may seem, the flag would have to be shown on the reverse side to hang according to the code. IOW there is no way to turn the flag to correctly hang it vertically except by turning it over using the reverse side.

The athletic department properly investigated this before approving the decal.

    Go Pack!

    The flag is displayed properly.

The last time I saw NC State in person was September 6th, 2008. It was the last Saturday before I left for basic training. It was also military appreciation day. Although I hadn’t fully grasped the uniqueness of that day until several months later, I recall how proud I was that the team I had loved since my diaper days had not forgotten its roots. Last I saw, NC State was near the top for producing General Officers. I want to go on a limb and say we were #2, only to West Point.

I am proud of my country, I am proud of its citizens that support the Constitution set before us, and I am proud of my Wolfpack family! I appreciate each of you for supporting what I do on a daily basis. We do what we do, because we have people like you guys that support us.
    Thank You!
    GO PACK!

PackSoldier, thank you and those you love for the sacrifices you continue to make for our freedom. I love the helmets and the reason behind them. I have one of the t-shirts with our last flag inspired design on them, and I get compliments on it every time I wear it.

    Go USA!
    Go US Military!
    Go Pack!
    Go DD!

Dare I add, this site has gone a little “Entertainment Tonight” with the discussion topics?????

…to support the theory above, I will say that other than the Naval Academy, NC State had the most officers at The Basic School (USMC) when I was there.

No, the Union is NOT displayed correctly on this helmet. The American Legion Code states that field of stars should always placed as if the flag is _advancing_.

That means that the stars should be UR on the R side of the helmet, UL on the L side of the helmet.

The problem with the NCSU design is it displays a “hanging flag” which is for stationary displays. Hopefully the football team is advancing more like and army and less like a stationary wall. UNC’s orientation is incorrect, too, btw.

The correct orientation can be seen in all kinds of places, such as the right arm of a uniformed officer, the decals on the sides of MTA buses in NYC, and many, many more.
