It’s a Red Out, Not a Black Out on Thursday

There was a misinformed tweet going around last night that State would be wearing all black uniforms on Thursday night for our national TV game vs Clemson but those rumors were 100% false.  The official Twitter handle @PackFootball quickly put an end to those rumors by tweeting out a status and picture.

We will be rockin’ the red Thursday. Will you?

Which got a response from New Orleans Saints TE, and brother of Asa Watson (pictured), Benjamin Watson.

So in summary, WEAR RED on Thursday night, dress your kids in all RED and Tell your friends to wear RED.

With that said, I wanted to add my 2 cents on the whole black uniform issue.  It’s a topic that for some reason really works up the State fan base and earlier in the year during one of the Wolfpack Caravans Coach Doeren was asked about black uni’s and said:

“Our fans want to see red and white,” Doeren said. “They don’t want to see black jerseys and matted helmets. They want to see red and white. Our fans are very traditional and very proud of the school colors.”

No don’t get me wrong, I love red and I think the ‘Red Out’ will be great. Half my clothes are red, my car is red, my wife has red hair (not really) and my dog is red (that would be cool though) but if the players and coaches want to wear black uniforms for a game or 2 who really cares? I know it is the older generation that makes a big fuss about non-traditional uniforms but I don’t understand why.  If the coaches and players wanted to wear neon-pink uniforms because they played better or because the recruits like it I am all for it.  As a good friend of mine once said, “If you look good, you feel good, you play good.”

So let’s have it, what’s your opinion on the black uniforms?

    BTW, I’m an old fart (almost). The music at CFS is fine….just too freakin loud. But I LOVE the all black with red numbers and lettering! Looks menacing, sinister, and intimidating….not to mention, slimming 🙂

    I just hope our defense looks better than the Texas defense against BYU on Thursday night.

    I prefer the block S before they added the N and the C to it that’s how traditional I am.

    I want to see what a Matte Red Helmet looks like with all red uniforms. I swear it would match better.

    I am all in for black uniforms. But just use it with red instead of pink for godz sakes.

    You want pink for breast cancer? Do it somewhere small but noticeable. A patch or something.

    I am more of the traditional crowd. I prefer the RED/WHITE.
    But if you go with all black, I can live with it. as for being menacing; how about all black and “Enter Sandman” blasting.

    Black is not a school color. Black should be used only as a highlight color on uniforms and equipment. I agree with the coach D. If an athlete does not care for red and white, then go play for the sissy cry baby blue and white. Amen

    i must be an ol’ fart as well…. i’m okay with black outlines/highlighting, etc.
    but until the words of the song are changed from “we’re the red and white from state”, i prefer seeing red and white.

    If it helps recruiting and motivates the players, then I say wear black. I’d like to see a helmet with the Struttin’ Wolf logo on the side. Whatever it takes to become recognized nationally as a football program.

    From what I have seen, wearing black has not motivated the players. If DD thinks it will help in a big game, then I am all for it. But it doesn’t seem as if he feels that way.

    We’re the red and white from State, not the red,black and white from State.

    I hate the black.

    Correct me if I’m wrong, but have never seen FB powers like Bama, ND, Florida, et al wearing black unis.

    If the colors our teams wear make no difference then why has our athletic department spent so much money developing our “brand”. Practically all of our marketing materials, publications, decor, etc. are Red and White. We even have a song we sing – The Red and White from State – why are we straying from that?

    As I see other schools wearing all black, my first thought is “there goes another lemming”. Are we going to follow the rest of them over the cliff or should we consider being leaders and coming out with our own “new” look – preferably a Red and White look.

    All legitimate statements. I get that we are the Red & White and that will always be our colors but what’s wrong with switching things up every once in a while?

    We aren’t Bama, Florida, Texas etc and Oregon made a name for itself with their funky uniforms because it helped recruiting and while it might not be effective anymore it just shows that helping your program stand out among the crowd can have a huge impact.

    I’d love to see a matte Red helmet, good call Plz2BStateFan

    I prefer leather helmets myself. And pads? Come on. Your school ain’t got nuttin on my old school.

    I’m ambivalent. I think black looks cool with the red, but once a season is enough. I agree with the sentiment that if it helps recruiting, then do it. And I don’t think we need to wish anyone else would go play for UNC. I think we’re trying to stop that trend. God forbid it be over black uniforms.

    I agree with whoever said we ought to burn all the black uniforms.

    Can anyone name a school that has black and white as its primary colors? Not black and gold, but black and white.

    VT sometimes wears black. Duke sometimes wears black. WF wears black. Does GT wear black?

    Black has already been taken.

    NC State wears red. Nobody else in the ACC (until L’ville) wears red. ROCK THE RED! ROCK THE WHITE! Rock ’em both.

    ..but I gotta say…. “All Black with thin red trim lines, little 6” red numbers, no school name and no players names…. plus dark-vadar-style visors for everybody…. would be totally eff’n awesome…. every other year AT Kenan.

    Even hard-core oldschool traditional types like Mr. Dog, Mr. Stick and few others….
    would get OFF on that entrance over in the HOLE….

    Providence College. And they’ve done just about nothing since 1974. Billy Donovan (now the BBall HC @ Florida) played for HC Rick Pitino and caused a small stir. Tey flared up a few years later with Pete Guillen and Godfrey Shamgod. For the most part, they’ve basically done nothing.

    I love the variety in the uniforms and the kids LOVE it. If they feel good in their all black, or even all red, great! They’ll play better. The more important thing is for ALL the Pack faithful to get on board and support whichever colors the team takes the field in. Ever wonder how the Cameron crowd all shows up dressed alike and moving in unison? It’s call unity and we Pack fans would do well to learn some lessons in that department. If coach says wear green, there should be 50K there wearing green and screaming their heads off at every play. Including the first plays of the second half and the end of the game. Get on board Pack fans. Unite behind the program and lets stop being mediocre.

    Red shirts and white pants, i am in with that. The all red with red helmets, i am in with that. The all red with the white helmets, i am in with that. All black with red helmets,i am in with that. They all look great when your winning!
    For anyone saying black is not our color that is fine but if the university wanted to add it to the red and white what would be so wrong with that? It is not the end of the world. As far as someone saying that black should only be used as trim the marching band sure uses it more than for trim.

    Redcanine- L’Ville also has worn all black, I believe they wore all black on a few games at home. They do wear black trim when they wear their away jerseys and also at home. Someone correct me if i am wrong.
