The winningest coach in State baseball history will continue to add wins to that total. Elliott Avent received a 5 year contract extension with a nice raise that should keep him in Raleigh for the remainder of his career. Â Joe Giglio of the N&O has the financial details.
Avent’s program had a breakout year in which he led the team all the way to Omaha and there’s no reason to think he can’t take them back again. Â He has 2 of the best players in the country in Carlos Rodon and Trea Turner. Â Both will be coming back for their junior (and presumably their last) year next season and the team looks primed for another deep run.
Recruiting has been on the rise since the arrival of Debbie Yow and it seems the financial commitment he has received from the athletic department was all he needed to take his program to the next level. Â Increased funding has led to a larger recruiting budget as well as plans for facility upgrades to Doak Field at Dail Park.
With the budding success of the baseball program and the upgrades that Avent himself has pushed for coming into fruition there’s no reason to believe we’ll see another coach at NCSU until Avent retires. Â Let’s just hope the drop off that will probably occur after losing this year’s junior class won’t be severe. Â That commitment and raise he received from the BOT demands that State stays a top tier program. Â Debbie Yow will expect nothing less.
