August 31 General College Football Thread

It all starts at 5:30 with Bama vs. VPI, where there is great drama as to whether the castrated turkeys can score.

Once that bludgeoning goes to half, there’s one of those weird early season games that I suspect might wind up being kinda fun – Wazzu at Auburn. Mike Leach is always entertaining, more so than him timeslot made (Bobby Petrino making his WKU debut at Kentucky).

Of course, 8:00 brings us gold in the form of Georgia at Clemson. Already salivating over that one, which likely means it will be sloppy and boring. Staggered nicely behind at 9:00, LSU and TCU in Jerry World. Les Miles just has to end up coaching the Cowboys under JJ, doesn’t he? Hilarity would most certainly ensue.

For the true junkie and insomniac (guilty on both fronts), late night brings Boise State at Washington, and Northwestern at Cal. Both could be pretty interesting.

Enjoy!!

Both 1-AA finalists beat good BCS conference foes. ND State over K State last night, now Eastern WA over OR State

TCU just returned one against LSU. Good one

Quite the pointed words against Manziel there. Kid better shape up, and do it fast.

Well Virgina Wolf, it looks like neither team will win by 40. The first to 40 might win. I trust DD to Macgyver the hell out of State’s available players for both Richmond and Clempson. I very much want to tell the folks at SI to take their s–tport, louisiannner bowl prediction and stuff it into Fedora’s pie hole. We are on the hunt for bigger game. Go Pack!!!!

Clemson is a darn good football team, folks. And boy are they FAST. And Herby is right, Cocks are loving this. They are beating the crap out of the Dawgs.

Give that bulldog a bone to chew. Where is joe theisman’s ankle.

A field goal. That’s a kiss from death. Georgia wins by four.

We shall see. Either way, Clemson has shown they can compete with the best. Remember they had their way with LSU in the bowl last year. It is very good for the ACC.

Come on Clemson. 3 catches and then pop out drops. Dabo don’t John Fox me. 3 point lead is not enough. Attack.

  10. Fastback68 08/31/2013 at 11:29 PM #

Ok – 10 point lead. Can they play some defense now???

  11. Wulfpack 08/31/2013 at 11:29 PM #

Big time drive there by the Tigers. Up 10 late on the Dawgs. What a giant win this would be for Clemson and the league.

  12. Wulfpack 08/31/2013 at 11:30 PM #

They’ve been balling on D all game. That has been the story. Much improved.

  13. MrPlywood 08/31/2013 at 11:35 PM #

Clempson looks pretty damn good from here.

  14. Fastback68 08/31/2013 at 11:39 PM #

Was that a live ball in the end zone???? Heart attack. Now you play John fox. Run the ball Clemson and end this game.

  15. Wulfpack 08/31/2013 at 11:49 PM #

Not a live ball if the player was forced into the touch, as clarified by Herby and Brent. But still a very heady play.

  16. Fastback68 08/31/2013 at 11:53 PM #

He was clearly pushed into it on the replay. The live version was nerve wracking. Never easy. Clemson wins.

  17. Wulfpack 08/31/2013 at 11:54 PM #

Great win. Hope we can hang with them in a few weeks. They are very good.

“That kid is a self absorbed idiot”

LOL. I don’t think he gives a rat ass. I have never seen any self absorbed “experts” on here either…LMAO

What is being said about Johnny:

“As much as I really, really enjoy Johnny Manziel, the on-field preening and self-aggrandizing that costs his team needs to stop. And that comes from his head coach as well. In addition to his creative ways of taunting the NCAA noted above, Manziel was also flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct following his third touchdown pass of the second half, costing the Aggies 15 yards. He was removed from the game and didn’t return. “That was just a foolish penalty at the end. … I hoped that at this point he’d have learned something,” Kevin Sumlin said afterwards. “That wasn’t very smart. That’s why he wasn’t going back in the game, no matter what happened.” A&M declined to make Manziel available to the media following the win, likely a wise decision based on the fact that Manziel appeared to take out a whole offseason of frustration in his limited time on the field Saturday.”

    How about this?

    – Clemson became the first non-SEC team ever to beat two Top-10 SEC teams in consecutive games, with the wins coming over No. 5 Georgia Saturday night and No. 8 LSU in the Chick-fil-A Bowl last New Year’s Eve.
