This Sunday, August 25th the 20th Jimmy V Celebrity Golf Classic will be held at North Ridge Country Club here in Raleigh.
You can find the list of celebrities participating in the golf tournament or the other related events here, which includes Charles Barkley, Alonzo Mourning, Emmitt Smith, Jim McMahon, Roger Clemens and former Atlanta Braves Dave Justice and Jermaine Dye. The entire 1983 championship team will be there or be represented by a family member (and will be honored at the V Gala, more on that below) as well as other NC State folks like Elliott Avent, Mark Gottfried, Tom Gugliotta, Terrence Holt, Debbie Yow and Scotty McCreary. The Carolina Hurricanes will also be represented by Amazing Race winner Bates Battaglia, Jesse Boulerice, Rod Brind’Amour and John Forslund. Plus all sorts of other folks you can find at the link above.
At this link you can find all the information you will need to attend as a spectator. The shotgun start will begin at 10am and in addition to getting pictures and autographs from the celebrities, there is also the Dennis Walters Trick Golf Show, two putting contests (one on each of the two courses at North Ridge) as well as a long drive contest sponsored by Canadian Mist. For each spectator that can hit an inflatable Canadian Mist bottle they will donate $10 (as well as $50 for each sponsor and $100 for each celebrity) up to $20,000.
New this year is the V Fashion Show on Saturday at Zinda Restaurant in downtown Raleigh, co-hosted by Full House’s Candance Cameron. Tickets for Friday night’s Reverse Raffle are sold out.
As mentioned above, this year at the V Gala on Saturday night at the Convention Center downtown, the 1983 champs will be honored as well as grant recipient Dr. John Cavanaugh and the Jimmy V-NC State Cancer Therapeutics Training Program.
Here is a video about the V Foundation as well as the work being done at the Jimmy V-NC State Cancer Therapeutics Training Program where they have had a breakthrough that could make chemotherapy drugs much more efficient. The video is 22 minutes long but is well worth your time.
If you can’t make it out to the golf course this weekend (or even if you do), please consider making a donation to the V Foundation and 100% of your donation will go directly to cancer research.
If you have any questions, put them in the comments and I’ll do my best to answer them. And you can probably find any info you need at the website golfclassic.org, on Twitter @jimmyvgolf and Facebook.
