[Key 3:45pm Updates] Links to past scandal? Wheels for Heels – Roy waiting on facts: About which player?

Today, Roy Williams said that he’s waiting on facts before making any judgement on the whole PJ Hairston-rental-car-(or cars, plural)-situation (ABC 11). But there may yet be more to this than it seems.

Is UNC senior guard (just for clarity: basketball, not football) Leslie McDonald the latest over at the Flagship to go ‘rogue’? McDonald was stopped on Highway 64 West in Tyrrell County by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol on July 4 for speeding (79 in a 55). SFN acquired a copy of the citation from the public records in Tyrrell County. You can see the details of this citation here.

Of particular interest:

*McDonald is from Memphis and has a Tennessee driver’s license, but the Chevy Malibu he was driving is registered in the state of North Carolina. Like Hairston, McDonald was stopped while driving a car he didn’t own. So, whose car is he driving?

*The Trooper’s notes on the citation indicate the passengers said they were UNC students driving back to Chapel Hill.

*The registered owner of this car is Derrick Leon Parker, Junior, of Durham. The only other Derrick Leon Parker that could be found in Durham is apparently his father (Senior). Parker, Jr. has no criminal record per Durham County public records. But, the registered owner’s apparent Facebook page does not indicate that he attends UNC.

*SFN found a Leon Parker on LinkedIn, listed as a research assistant at UNC Chapel Hill. But, at first glimpse, this guy doesn’t look affiliated to Derrick Leon Parker.

*Derrick Leon Parker owns this house in Durham.

*So, SFN wonders: who was the other occupant in the car? If it wasn’t Parker (the registered owner), then why were these two driving this car without the registered owner with them?

*This is the Facebook page for a Leon Parker of Durham (here). Whoever this is, he is in pictures with two men who appear to be Haydn “Fats” Thomas and Tim Harrington.

*We know from the many recent media reports that Haydn “Fats” Thomas is the guy who paid for the rental Yukon that PJ Hairston was driving when he was arrested (WRAL).

*We also know from a McDonald tweet to @BRINTCITYNC that he got a phone from Fats Thomas.

"all I had to do was restore and activate it" Hmmm!

“all I had to do was restore and activate it” Hmmm!

*@BRINTCITYNC (Mirage 7.26) appears to be an associate of Tim Harrington, both connected to KISS Entertainment. We know that Harrington is an associate of Fats Thomas.

*WRAL characterized Fats Thomas this way:

[H]as a long criminal history and also left a trail of tweets detailing arrests, drugs, trips and relationships with former high-profile athletes before deleting his Twitter account July 1.

Some of the relationships with athletes from UNC, Duke and other institutions, bring into question whether he provided impermissible benefits which could result in NCAA sanctions for those programs.

*Also of interest is the relationship of Leslie McDonald, Fat Thomas and Iceberg Guards, a company Fats openly endorses. McDonald instagramed a picture of him and Iceberg Guards but that has since been deleted (here).

*There are also pictures and video floating around online of PJ Hairston underage boozing in Masonboro recently. And we’ve learned that Hairston was instructed to keep it locked up this weekend and explicitly told to go to church and do some community service. I guess shotgunning bud light in Masonboro is a little bit of community service for us ABCers.

I don’t know what it all means but there sure seems to be a lot of smoke and as our own BJD said “If there’s one truly predictable thing in life…it’s that stupid people tend to do stupid things. Thank God for that, in the Holes’case, stupid is as stupid does.”

After more than a MONTH, one has to ask what ‘facts’ that ‘ole Roy could he be waiting to learn? If all of the facts aren’t in by now, how hard are people really looking? Why wouldn’t all of the facts be in by now? Heck, when one reads a statement like the following from Trudi Random (Miykael Faulcon’s mother), one has to wonder if ole Roy and the Flagship are working hard to manipulate the ‘facts’ to their liking before sharing the ‘facts’ with the rest of us.

“I don’t like how things are going so I am making the choice to do something about it..this is a notice that I am not going to sit back and let my son Miykael Faulcon be the fall guy..so if this means trouble for me..folks getting exposed…me losing all that I have to save him..then so be it..I am a mother who loves her kids unconditionally…I put all that I have into raising my kids and I will be damn if I let my hard work be in vain..if you want the truth ask me don’t assume…”

Maybe, just maybe, the facts that Roy seeks will also provide insight into the facts that UNC never uncovered or shared after it became public that a single UNC athlete received 93 parking tickets on FIVE DIFFERENT cars that used NINE DIFFERENT license plates!? (Click here for a reminder) Perhaps if UNC had cared more about getting to the truth of the ‘Wheels for Heels’ scandal in 2011 then this wouldn’t be happening today.

Remember, this was an obvious BASKETBALL topic even in 2011. You gotta check out this link for even more review. When you do, you will see an awful lot about UNC Basketball star, John Henson and car/ticket issues in Chapel Hill. That is the same John Henson that shows up in tons of pictures and social interactions on FaceBook and Twitter with – you guessed it – Fats Thomas.

BREAKING from USA Today (2:50pm)

While we were pulling together our thoughts on this Leslie McDonald situation, USA Today posted this article to further support our question of the day — About which playerS would Roy be waiting to learn facts?

Four rental vehicles that are linked to Haydn Thomas, the convicted felon who rented the sport utility vehicle that North Carolina leading scorer P.J. Hairston was driving when he was arrested last month, have received a total of nine parking citations on the university’s campus since February.

Between Feb. 22 and May 28, the nine citations were issued for four rental vehicles that either Thomas or a Catinia Farrington, a woman who shares his Durham, N.C., address, rented from the Hertz location at the Raleigh-Durham International Airport.

Rental receipts obtained by USA TODAY Sports that were crossed referenced by license plate with UNC parking tickets show:

* A 2013 GMC Yukon rented by Thomas from Feb. 14 to March 3 received tickets for an expired meter on Feb. 21 and lack of a valid parking permit on Feb. 22.
* A 2012 Camaro SS rented by Thomas from March 25 to April 15 received a ticket on April 15 for lack of a valid permit.
* A 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe rented by Thomas from April 18 to May 2 received a ticket on May 1 for lack of a valid permit.
* The Camaro was rented again from April 25 to June 17 by Farrington. The Camaro received a parking ticket on May 28 for lack of a valid permit.
* A 2013 Mercedes Benz 350 rented by Thomas from May 8 to May 30 received four parking tickets, one each for an expired meter on May 22 and 23 and one each for lacking a valid permit on May 23 and May 28.

[snip]

Between Feb. 14 and June 25, Thomas and Farrington spent $15,020.35 on vehicle rentals from the RDU Hertz. Farrington rented the Camaro from April 25 through June 17, a period of 54 days, according to a rental receipt obtained by USA TODAY Sports. Farrington was billed $3,249.00. Thomas rented the same vehicle March 25 through April 15, incurring charges of $2468.47, according to the rental receipt.

In two telephone interviews on July 3, Thomas, 39, told USA TODAY Sports that he did not know Hairston and that Hairston followed Thomas on Twitter only because “I promote parties.” Thomas said that he rented the car for himself and that a friend, Miykael Faulcon, borrowed the car June 5 to go to a store when the arrest occurred.

Thomas said he is a friend of Faulcon from partying with him at clubs. When asked in a phone interview Tuesday about her son’s relationship with Thomas, Faulcon’s mother, Trudy Ransom, said the two have no relationship.

“I don’t know why he says he has a relationship with my son,” Ransom said. “I won’t comment about PJ Hairston. I will let this play out in court and I hope the innocent will remain innocent.”

Thomas rented the Yukon at 10 p.m. June 2 at the airport Hertz location, and the car was returned at 10:30 p.m. June 5. Thomas was charged $1261.64, according to the receipt.

The police report revealed that a 9-millimeter handgun and a magazine with nine rounds of ammunition were seized during a traffic stop that led to Hairston’s arrest on possession of marijuana charges. Three cigars and a plastic baggie that contained a half-ounce of marijuana also were seized.

Hairston, 20, was driving Faulcon and Carlos Sanford in the silver Yukon, according to the police report. All three were arrested and charged with drug possession. Hairston also was charged with driving without a license. Hairston, Faulcon and Sanford were each released on $1,000 unsecured bonds.

Thomas said July 3 that neither the NCAA nor officials from North Carolina had reached out to him to talk with him about his relationship with Hairston. He added that he is not a University of North Carolina athletic booster nor is he connected to a sports agent.

Could you imagine how bad things would be in Chapel Hill if they weren’t so great at living up to promises they made to the NCAA about their diligence to monitor social media? And, just how awesome their compliance department would be about clamping down? Remember, this is the school where

“Peace and quiet” sometimes trumps a “piece”! Gotcha! And I agree! Trapped in a vehicle with my wife for 2 weeks left me totally exhausted!

    It’s hard “paying attention”!
