UPDATE: WRAL is reporting that PJ Hairston has been suspended “indefinitely” by Roy Williams:
Steve Kirschner, a spokesman for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Athletics Department, issued a statement late Sunday saying men’s basketball coach Roy Williams has suspended Hairston, who averaged 14.6 points in 34 games last season, from the team indefinitely.
Keep in mind that “suspended indefinitely” does not mean “kicked off the team permanently.”
Hairston will probably need to resolve his charges, perform some community service or whatever and then earn his way back into the good graces of his coaching staff, but he is still a student at UNC and still going to be eligible to rejoin the team. Don’t be surprised when that happens around the end of Fall Semester.
UNC’s PJ Hairston has been in the news a lot lately for items that aren’t related to his ability to put the basketball in the basket. While unfortunate for him, it does help the slow news month of July.
Today, yes today, at 4:30 PM PJ Hairston was pulled over in Rowan County for driving 93 mph in a 65 mph zone. He was also charged with careless and reckless driving. He was driving a 2008 Acura TL. No word yet on whose Acura it was.
His basketball coach, Roy Williams has now suspended Hairston indefinitely. Ahhh, those summer suspensions.
Never a dull day over in Orange County.
