Tudor: State, UNC should “unite” in Omaha

Caulton Tudor (N&O):

If you’re a N.C. State fan or if you’re a UNC fan, and if you’re going to Omaha for the College World Series, bury the hatchet just this one time.

Please.

Of the eight qualifying teams, State and UNC fans face the longest journey to Omaha. But unless I’m off base on this guess, there’ll be as many or more Wolfpack and Tar Heel fans in Omaha as there will be from the other six schools — Indiana, Louisville, Mississippi State and Oregon State in addition to UCLA and LSU.

And although I realize this may be asking for the impossible, it could be important for the bitter ACC rivals to bond after Sunday.

So, let’s look at this reasonably: is Tudor asking too much?

Quite simply…

Yes.

Disregarding the fact that the so-called Carolina Way is a giant lie and The Flagship has built its “greatness” upon decades of systemic academic fraud and athletic impropriety, and ignoring the fact that it’d be shameful (shame, something no one over there knows) and immoral to align ourselves with them, you must never forget that one indelible trait shared by every true State fan is an impassioned, unwavering hatred of Carolina. There is no gray area here. One of the primary duties of every true State fan is a lifelong commitment to deconstructing the Carolina Way.

And we’re supposed to “unite” with them for the betterment of the ACC?

Well, like the great Raylan Givens says, “Me and dead owls don’t give a hoot.”

Carlton is getting old and forgets to take his medication. Take your pills Carlton. My hatred for the holes runs as deep as my red blood. Do they cheat at baseball too.. hell yes! all I can say is F*** carolina.

Trees will tap dance, elephants will ride in the Indianapolis 500, and John Swofford will skip breakfast, lunch and dinner before I bury the hatchet with those cheating sons of bitches.

Hang it up, Tudor. If you’re not going to work as a journalist, you ought not hold the job of one.

So, his point is that both teams stand to benefit by making it further if each team’s fans decide to cheer for the ACC rather than narrowing in on their specific team. I guess the logic is, you perform better when you’re being cheered for rather than being cheered against? And, based on his example of Florida/South Carolina, even the game against each other should be “peaceful” even if “intense”? And all this for the good of seeing the ACC get a CWS winner for only the 2nd time in history?

First, does it really make THAT big of a difference (teams whose fans cheer for other teams in the same conference do better)? I haven’t looked at Rodon’s stats to see how his performance changes when he’s in hostile environments, but knowing that his overall stats are pretty dominant, it doesn’t seem that he’s going to pitch noticeably better or worse depending on whether he’s hearing “Go ACC!” vs. “We want a pitcher not an underwear stitcher.”

Second, I can’t think of either school’s fans walking away satisfied that the ACC won the CWS if it meant that the rival team was the winner. If it were some of the other ACC schools, I could see that happening, but his request sounds like something you’d hear from some national person who doesn’t get the bitter hatred between the schools; not someone who covers those teams locally. Of course, it could just be that he smells the blood in the water and thinks UNC needs all the help they can get (for those of you who like that angle).

Frankly, if I had an ounce of respect for THEM, I’d lose it quickly if they pulled for US.

All I want or need from them is to be our 1st (and God willing, 3rd) victim on the way to the title.

  5. JeremyH 06/13/2013 at 2:05 AM #

oh is this one not best of 3 and a loss doesnt mean elimination?

  6. JohnGalt78 06/13/2013 at 3:54 AM #

I would pull for Satan before I’d pull for them. CT needs to stop writing. He’s lost his mind.

^^ It’s just like a repeat of the regional/super regional format. The first round is a double elimination format with 2 4-team pods. The winner of each pod moves on to a best of 3 series for all the marbles. Our pod is UNC, UCLA, and LSU (the alphabet pod).
    Here’s a bracket: http://www.ncaa.com/interactive-bracket/baseball/d1

By the way, I’m assuming each university says how it wants its name to be written (as it is on the above bracket for example). Has UNC always been “North Carolina”?

Unite??? for better of the ACC??? Hell, I want out of the ACC. No love her for the blue loving ACC!!!

Look, the Holes have one of the winingest traditions in college basketball. Sure there are other teams like Indiana, KY, Duke, UCLA but few teams have had the success in college basketball year in and year out for so many years. This makes their fans arrogant assholes. They abandon the football team when they lose like three years ago when we wiped their asses at Kenan and during the fourth quarter there were more State fans in the stadium than Heels. They don’t win with grace and they lose like a bunch of babies. Screw them!!!

  10. Pack78 06/13/2013 at 7:19 AM #

Tell ya what, CT: we will unite with those cheating, arrogant a$$whipes about the time that the Tea Party and Obama have their kumbaya moment…you know, when hell freezes over.

Forget being told for years , “you are not our rivals”.

Forget the mentality that “your school is not on our level”.

Forget the “favorable calls” that seem to come every basketball season.

Forget the Martin report and all the academic fraud which had “nothing” to do with athletics.

Forget everything and pull together for the sake of the league.

Ha… Ha, Ha…Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha

CT is just trying to get readers to N&O. I am looking forward to the game, but not looking forward to Mike Patrick announcing.

I’ve seen an online article about the State fans at that Chapel Hill/Russia basketball game 30 odd years ago. If anyone has that link please post it. I think it’s quite timely.

Tudor is a troll. Don’t feed him.

I am a true ABC fan. (any body but Carolina). I always have been and always will be ABC. I remember in 3rd grade being picked on by other 3rd graders that were UNC fans. (that was in the David Thompson era). I cannot decide if I like to see the pack win or the heels lose. I will watch the Heels if they are losing and turn it off if they are winning. I hate those Bastards. If the Heels were playing the Taliban I would pull for the Taliban with Osama Bin Laden as the coach. Go to Hell Carolina its the Red and White from NC state. Unite. Is CT F******G crazy??????

Could not have said it better!!!

  16. GAWolf 06/13/2013 at 10:55 AM #

Given stories I’ve heard about our players and their opinion of UNC (which is quite healthy of a reaction toward an arch rival), I don’t think they want or need that “help.”

I envision a UNC fan getting the “Wooly Bull” wild pitch while standing too close to Rodon’s pregame warmups.

  17. buclark 06/13/2013 at 10:56 AM #

I hope the Heels never play the taliban.

  18. Rick 06/13/2013 at 11:10 AM #

    Cowdog,
You lament not having many baseball fans and then when people start pulling for them you call them “bandwagoners”. [shrugs shoulders]

  19. NCSU84 06/13/2013 at 11:29 AM #

Now I understand why CT is going to retire soon – senility

  20. OldWuf 06/13/2013 at 11:43 AM #

    Tuckerdorm, graywolf-

I echo your sentiments. No Way. No How. Ain’t gonna happen.

    Its MUCH deeper than sports.

I will shut up now, ’cause I’ll say some things that are not appropriate for a family website.

  21. TheCOWDOG 06/13/2013 at 11:44 AM #

Yes, Ricky. I did say it. No question about that. Lots of bandwagonteers around these parts.

It’s the truth, but you’ll note I said welcome, and it sure looks like there’s room for one and all.

Introspective query doesn’t always require lamentation, either…no pining, here.

    Shrug away.

    Better yet…” Hit away ! ”

  22. MP 06/13/2013 at 12:33 PM #

    LOL at NCSU84.

Caulton Tudor, bless his heart, has become irrelevant long before this ‘editorial’. Someone (Giglio?) needs to pat him on the shoulder and suggest he walk away sooner than later to stop piling up shoddy ‘work’. Caulton… DUDE… someone will read this horseshit years from now and wonder why you were still around writing it for a published newspaper!

  23. CaptainCraptacular 06/13/2013 at 12:34 PM #

Those of you who would pull for the taliban over unc-ch have never had a family friend or family member harmed or killed by the taliban. In that theoretical case I would have a major problem with you personally if you actually did pull for the taliban.

  24. tjfoose1 06/13/2013 at 1:34 PM #

Toots taking a page out of Doyel’s book.

  25. tjfoose1 06/13/2013 at 1:48 PM #

^^ C’mon, You know better. It’s hyperbole, to make a point. The fact that one has to pause, and slightly question if it’s true only highlights our hatred.

One thing about the Taliban though, at least they are honest about what they are and what they believe.

And it’s a fine point, but a distinction that should be made. The Taliban, as evil as they are, did not come after us. That is Al Queda and their ilk. The Taliban just wanted left alone to rape, pillage, oppress, and murder in their own neighborhood.

Don’t read between the lines. I’m a military brat, pro USA and military all the way. I can hate someone for their beliefs and practices, and believe such things can warrant death, but I don’t see evil in the independent act of defending one’s life, home, and beliefs, regardless of how whacked they may be.
