The #RedLight is not just ‘on’, it is blinding! #Pack14

Good Lord! I hope that you haven’t blinked or disengaged from the internet over the last week!? If so, then you have missed a massive flurry of football recruiting activity that could very well be transforming the future of the NC State Football Program!

Coach Doeren & Company have secured three commitments in just the last few HOURS!!! In total, the Wolfpack football program has secured EIGHT new commitments since last Thursday from high school football players who almost all are rated 3-stars or better. As of right now, Rivals.com ranks NC State’s current recruiting class #16 in the country.

As of 1:50pm today – Deonte Holden, Bradley Chubb and and Justin Jones had all committed to Coach Doeren and the Wolfpack. All three prospects rank amongst the Top 50 players in the country at their respective positions on the defensive line.

Jones is technically the highest rated of the new commitments as our second 4-star recruit of this class. He had offers from ACC rivals Miami, Duke, Wake Forest and Louisville as well as offers from dozens of other schools.

Holden is 6-foot-4, 220-pound 3-star prospect who is easily one of the Top 50 defensive ends in the country. He picked NC State over offers from Virginia, Wake Forest, Boston College, Cincinnati, I Iowa and others.

Chubb is 6-4, 235 pounds and is also a Top 50 defensive end. He held dozens of offers from schools like Georgia Tech, West Virginia, Wake Forest, Mississippi State, Duke and East Carolina.

All of this excitement is enough to make Wolfpackers celebrate. The following video is making the rounds on Twitter as Coach McNutt celebrates the momentum around #Pack14.

This is ridiculous!!! Here’s hoping Street commits soon. Now the class is filling up, he might be even more inclined to move on it. Also, fingers crossed for Middleton and Prescod, with decisions coming soon. I just hope we have room for a few more 4 stars, being that we have the interest of many. We are running out of room fast. Could be full by end of July. Yow knows how to pick em, way to go DD. now lets win 9 games this year and crack the top ten in recruiting next year!

Doesn’t Prescod visit this weekend? What a fantastic position to be in to be able to have this solid of a core and now be able to turn it up on the best of the best over the next (however many) months!

Just wondering where the scale is between this being a sign of TOB’s apathy when it came to recruiting, or one of the recruiting ability and salesmanship of the new staff.

  4. tjfoose1 06/24/2013 at 3:14 PM #

According to The Wolfpacker, Prescod was in town last week.

    Top 20 recruiting class!! Unbelievable.

And you’d think they’d only get better in recruiting year after year as they get embedded in the region.

Trying to keep expectations in check …

    Statefans

Prescod visited this past weekend and will make a return visit next week with his mom. He also has a visit scheduled for auburn on July 6th. When asked if he could commit next week on his visit, he said “it depends how it goes, he could decide next week or after auburn.”. Fingers crossed.

Middleton decides on July 1st…this would also be a big one, he is a dominant DT.

Glad this is getting front page love. I’ve never seen such a flurry of commits to State football in such a short time span. Never.

Recruiting success breeds off itself. It is very significant to be ranked in the top 20 at this stage, because uncommitted recruits take notice, especially the in-state guys, some of whom “want” to buy into our program and new staff.

  9. redisgood 06/24/2013 at 4:18 PM #

I think 12 of the 20 are in-state kids, and 4 of the 12 are from the Charlotte area. This is Doeren’s 1st year here? Pretty amazing.

From what I’ve seen so far, if the staff gets outrecruited for someone, it won’t be because they got outworked.

DD takes NIU to the Orange Bowl. How many three star recruits in 2011 and 2012 combined for NIU??? Three according to Scout.Com. DD and staff have signed 23 so far in eight months for State and that number might increase while I am typing this based on results of the past few hours and days. Get on this rocket now and don’t give up on this season. Thank you Kay Yow and Thank you DD. Looking forward to this season. No matter what happens, this 12th man will be screaming for the Red and White. Go Pack!!!!

Very impressed by CDD and staff so far. They are using their honeymoon period to full effect. After this year, on-field success will begin to drive recruiting results much more. TOB actually had a pretty good class when he first got here (Glennon, Manning, a few others) and during the 2010 season when we started off hot.

I am hoping we build on the momentum. I used to rationalize our recruiting classes and the stars system more so. I still think any individual ranking is not meaningful but in aggregate they matter much more. There are 10,000+ prospects. No way all (or even more than a little) are getting individual evaluation.

44: “Recruiting success breeds off itself.”

Yep. I’m sure I’ve said somewhere before that there seems to be a tipping point with recruiting. It can take a while to get buy-in from upper level recruits, but once that happens the floodgates can open.

New staff has hit the ground running. Great job so far. Signing date is a long way off, but the ground work is being done now.

  15. tractor57 06/24/2013 at 8:02 PM #

Normally I’m not so interested in recruiting. Yes it is vitally important just not something I follow. This seems to be a major change. Time will tell but I am optimistic.

  16. cWOhLFrPAiCKs 06/24/2013 at 8:45 PM #

I am very excited to see this staff get off to such a strong start. It seems there are a lot of guys who are buying what Coach and his staff are selling. Lets hope they can turn their success on the trail into success on the turf I. The coming years and rally open up those floodgates!

  17. Texpack 06/24/2013 at 8:57 PM #

TOB retired from recruiting several years ago. He was coasting, doing what he THOUGHT was just enough to get by.

DD doesn’t back down from anybody. I still think we will go 6-6 or 7-5.

  18. NelsonHall97 06/24/2013 at 9:03 PM #

Next year will be an up and down year for sure. BUT the future looks bright if Coach D can recruit top 20-25 classes right out of the gate. Time will tell, but to have a top 20 group of commits right now for 2014 is off the charts unexpected IMO. Still have the get the signatures, but just getting commits right now at that level is proof he knows what he’s doing.

  19. wolffpride 06/24/2013 at 9:07 PM #

I hope you are wrong Texpack! Though I can see us going 7-5 or 6-6 as well. I can also see us going 8-4. FSU and Clemson are given losses, no one will complain. Seeing as how we have a great schedule (especially home schedule), I can see us maybe only dropping 2 more. 8-4 with a bowl win will give us a 9 win season, tying TOB’s most successful season.

We have already peaked the interest of some top 2015 recruits (in state and out). This staff is working hard and is not backing down. With a successful first year, and an offense that is fun to watch, we could really clean up. I am thinking if the stars align correctly then we could haul in a top 10 class in 2015…just maybe. I know the effort is there.

We need to sell out the season opener and show this staff and team that we care!!!

  20. Greywolf 06/24/2013 at 9:31 PM #

Yeah, DD & Co. can recruit. That’s for sure. Come December we’ll be talking how these guys can coach as well.

I doubt DD has conceded losses to Clemson or FSU. We need to check our pessimism at the door. This is the era of the new Wolfpack.

  21. SuperStuff 06/24/2013 at 10:49 PM #

Very psyched about recruiting. I can’t wait to see how they develop as a team in time.

  22. TLeo 06/25/2013 at 6:35 AM #

It is amazing the see the difference in energy and enthusiasm and effort coming from this new staff opposed to the old one under TOB.

  23. BJD95 06/25/2013 at 7:37 AM #

The new staff has done amazing work. No doubt, they will work equally hard to win games this fall.

But that doesn’t change the fact that every single unit other than DL is below average or worse…even by ACC standards. Team speed is poor. Depth (again, outside of DL) is non-existent.

That’s what happens when two of the five past classes are disasters, and a third is mediocre at best. DD is a good coach, but he’s not a magician, or Jesus.

Every win is gravy and should be celebrated. And we have no right to bitch and moan if we only get three or four helpings of it. Yes, it would be great (and possible, if we stay healthy) to get more. But as long as this staff keeps recruiting and coaching with this energy, the good times will come. Be patient. Savor the good and be understanding about the rest.

  24. Greywolf 06/25/2013 at 9:23 AM #

    BJD,
I could and would agree with you were you to say our rising replacement players were unproven or inexperienced but to rate them “poor or worse” seems harsh — especially without any evidence or comment to back up your condemnation.

Justin Burris is a proven CB with good speed as is Johnson at the other corner. We lost 2 very good safeties and that is a position that the newcomers stepping in must produce. Hakim Jones is blessed with rare athletic ability and Jarvis Byrd’s big question mark is can he stay healthy. In contrast to your doomsday analysis, some think that our defense will be good maybe outstanding.

Sallahudin (sp) is the key to our LB corp. How do you rate him as poor or worse. I won’t rate him until I see him in action. What do you base your “poor or worse” on? Green, Noel and the other LB starter from last year while not great are INSHO hardly “poor or worse.”

Our offense is a total unknown at this point but I and I suspect others would be interested in what you base our assessments and predictions.

  25. wolffpride 06/25/2013 at 9:44 AM #

I have to say Greywolf is right in that these players have yet to prove anything in this new system. No question, this staff has energy! 19-22 year olds respond to energy, I think this alone will spark improvement in playing ability. I think we have a quality D coordinator now (thank God Archer is gone)…he has led every unit under his command in the top 20 of scoring defense. I think we also have an offense that utilizes athleticism to the best of its ability. Basically, whatever talent we do have, I think will be maximized far beyond what the previous staff was able to do. I think we have players! The cupboard is not dry, come fall I hope that everyone will realize this.

Salahuddin is definitely our key development on D. If he lives up to the hype that is surrounding him, then we could have a pretty good D unit IMO.
