Terrone Prescod commits! #RedLight

If I could take you back to this entry earlier in the week where we said:

4-star OL Terronne Prescodd will be back on campus with his mom for the second straight weekend and the coaches are highly anticipating his commitment. So much so, that he might not even wait until the weekend.

Well, the weekend is here – and so is a commitment from Prescod, NC State’s fifth from the state of Georgia in this recruiting class.

At 6’5″ and 320 pounds, Prescod is easily one of the Top 50 offensive guards in the country; he chose NC State over offers from Auburn, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Michigan State, Mississippi, Missouri, Virginia and others. You can click here to check out some of his video.

Prescod is the Wolfpack’s 21st recruiting commitment for the 2014 class that is currently ranked #16 in the country by Rivals.com.

As we look forward, Winston-Salem Parkland’s Deshaywn Middleton, ranked as 3-star defensive tackle, speaks of NC State as a heavy favorite but still lists West Virginia, Wake Forest and Duke as possibilities. The 6-foot-2, 295-pound Middleton is expected by many to commit to State when he is scheduled to make his announcement tomorrow (Monday). Another defensive name that is keeping Wolfpackers on the edge of their seats is 5-star defensive end Kentavious Street. Street made no secret that he loves NC State and that has kept everyone around the program on their toes for a commitment. Street originally thought he wanted to announce at the Army All-American game which would be great publicity for the program, but spots in the recruiting class are filling up fast.

Seems like more and more great news coming in every day!!! Now if them guys cam coach like they recruit the future looks mighty good!! Go Pack!!!!!

Sounds like there is reason for optimism with our football program. Great to hear that.

I am more concerned that DD and staff may be gone in two or three years than I am about coaching. NIU went to Orange Bowl with a total of three, 3 star recruits. Everyone was rated below that if you are into stargazing. I think we have a tiger by the tail. Go Pack!!!!!

The future’s so bright we need to break out those CTC sunglasses.

This class is filling up quickly and when it does, do you suppose DD and Co. will be looking at any Jucos like those 9 that Tennessee beat our ass with in Atlanta last August? Without that speed demon who burned Amerson’s ass repeatedly, that game and season could have been entirely different.

“NIU went to Orange Bowl with a total of three, 3 star recruits. ”

Some of our folks here on SFN don’t think DD can coach the bunch of 3 star athletes we have here at State past 3 wins.

I got a feeling that he’s the kind of coach that “can take his’n and beat your’n and he can take your’n and beat his’n” which may be why recruiting is going so well. But it’s not ALL about recruiting.

I suspect Doeren’s plan this year has been to get as many commitments out of the way before camp starts so his coaches can focus on the tall order they have this fall.

I recall Amato doing something similar early in his tenure, and remarking at the time how crucial it was to have his assistants reviewing film and game planning rather than on the road every Friday night before the Saturday games.

It’s a smart approach if you can get the early commitments, which we are doing right now.

I think Doeren recognizes that he needs to make a splash early in his tenure to build momentum for the program, which is a total reversal from the more plodding, deliberate, sendekian approach taken by his predecessor.

The recruiting so far has been very impressive!

I feel cautiously optimistic about this season. Mostly because our schedule sets us up with many winnable games. Our talent isn’t great and we don’t have all the guys DD wants for his scheme but If we avoid the WTF losses so common with the last regime (something I think DD and Co will do), I’ll be quite pleased.

The next few years I think we might be in for some fun seasons.

It’s remarkable what you can accomplish simply by opening up a can of care.

This is great news! Our OL was was supposed to become a major strong point under the previous regime, but even with several highly touted recruits, it just never materialized on the field. Hopefully DD and his staff can do what TOB and his staff never could.

I agree that I expect to see less WTF losses and more OMG wins with this staff. And while I was previously writing this year off as a complete rebuilding year, but it certainly doesn’t seem like the staff is looking at it that way.

At this point, I’m really interested to see who ends up starting the most games at QB. I could see Thomas getting the gig to start the season only to have Mitchell take over a few games in, but who knows.

Very excited for the upcoming season. GO PACK!

“4-star OL Terronne Prescodd will be back on campus with his mom for the second straight weekend”

Not that Staaaas matter matter THAT much, but this guy isn’t rated as a 4 star in the article linked. He is also only a 3 star on 247sports.com and scout.com.

And how the EFF does UVA have two 5 Star commits??

  11. packpowerfan 06/30/2013 at 2:44 PM #

“And how the EFF does UVA have two 5 Star commits??”

One of the superintendents I work with at Perdue here in Accomac is Kevin Brooks (started ahead of Tiki Barber at UVa before shredding his knee in 95), and he said that UVa has always pushed academic elitism, ESPECIALLY in Delmarva and NC. He remarked that is was amazing how parents strongly responded to it.

I don’t know where those two 5* are from, but it is quite similar to U*NX’s recruiting, except without the blatant hooliganism.

  12. blpack 06/30/2013 at 3:57 PM #

Not many spots left. Great the staff can focus on the season and future classes.

    ppf: so true. +1.
given the SEC domination in NCAA FB,
the ‘rest of the field’ has to *sell* something.

  14. MISTA WOLF 06/30/2013 at 11:12 PM #

Coach London is black. I’m sure that has a lot to do with it.

  15. JEOH2 06/30/2013 at 11:49 PM #

Mista Wolf…what do you mean particularly?

  16. MISTA WOLF 07/01/2013 at 3:10 AM #

Sorry, did not mean to be so blunt with my post. Coach London being African American possibly has something to do with landing the 5 star recruits. If their black, there is the possibility that they might want to play for someone of the same race that they can relate to. Sorry if I offended anyone, but their decisions may have to do with that. Coach London is a hell of a coach. He was no slouch at Richmond. I’ve heard he is a very likable guy as well, just like DD.

  17. PoppaJohn 07/01/2013 at 8:37 AM #

Okay, well in evaluating a new coach the first thing he gets a chance to prove is if he can recruit. CHECK!

Since TOB left the cupboard bare, we’ll definitely get to see if he can coach this fall – because we aren’t going to ‘out talent’ anyone.

Great to be excited about football.

  18. Gowolves 07/01/2013 at 9:23 AM #

Deshaywn Middleton just committed to run with the Pack!! DT from WS. Man the recruits are knocking the door down to commit. Such a nice change from the TOB era.

Nice use of “hooliganism” packpowerfan. Good thing UNC isn’t located here. It’s a crime in Russia.

  20. golf76 07/01/2013 at 12:11 PM #

PackerInRussia – Great idea! Let’s start a campaign to move UNX to Russia. They’ll fit right in!

  21. rtpack24 07/01/2013 at 12:31 PM #

We beat out Auburn for Prescodd, that is impressive.

  22. tjfoose1 07/01/2013 at 1:55 PM #

“Coach London is a hell of a coach. He was no slouch at Richmond. ”

As a head coach, the jury is still out. He was only at Richmond for 2 years. Not even half of a full recruiting cycle and not enough time to fully be his own team.

  23. choppack1 07/01/2013 at 7:32 PM #

Thrilled we got Middleton. New staff is definitely doing work.

  24. cWOhLFrPAiCKs 07/01/2013 at 8:54 PM #

Watching the Middleton highlights, that kid is a beast! He’s got a sense for where the ball is and a motor that doesn’t seem to quit. At one point, he runs down a running back from behind 15 yards down the field. Glad to have that kind of determination on the squad next year!

EDIT: Here is said highlight reel http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=TZyehS4A41Q&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DTZyehS4A41Q
