Pack9 will have to avoid Omaha’s paranormal activity tonight

As the Wolfpack’s 8pm match up with UCLA slowly approaches I continue to grow more nervous. So, the following evidence of a paranormal force field of ghosts tripping UNC players at the College World Series was a nice distraction for me this afternoon! Hat tip to our sister blog in the USA Today digital properties network, ForTheW!n

We need a hitting coach. Over swinging on high balls when loopers are all we need. Ucla has some smart coaches.

  2. 44rules 06/18/2013 at 10:42 PM #

Actually, prime, he had a great 5th inning. But that was his limit. Then you have the bullpen ready. It’s not like they had been taxed to that point.

Wow, the UCLA coach is using pinch hitters and everything. Actually managing.

Hard to figure out the problem with the above the belt pitches. We needed to lay off them tonight and didn’t. You need to be poised at this level and tonight we just weren’t.

Poetic justice, from a UNC fan’s perspective, for them to stab our hearts on Thursday, and then have an easy out against UCLA to advance to the Championship game.

So he’s not going to hang his man out to dry. Good managing.

This should be interesting with their closer. Sidearm crap. Must be awesome with their 37-0 record with lead after 7.

Come on Trea. Double in the gap.

  10. vtpackfan 06/18/2013 at 11:00 PM #

Damn. Sac bunt fail and than the biggest, crushed F7 that I have ever seen.

That was a dogshit inning. Total dogshit.

  12. vtpackfan 06/18/2013 at 11:09 PM #

    Weird game. Just baseball stuff.

  13. 44rules 06/18/2013 at 11:09 PM #

So I’ll try this comment for the third time. Total dogshit baseball night. Braves lose a double header and my fantasy baseball team is 1 for 25 so far.

OK, now I’m pissed at the world. This is the fourth time I’ve tried to post this comment.

It’s a total dogs(*t baseball night. Braves drop a doubleheader and my fantasy baseball team is 1 for 25.

It’s just not happening for the pack tonight. No breaks whatsoever. You could see it coming from the 5th.

  18. bill.onthebeach 06/18/2013 at 11:21 PM #

    that’s baseball….

when is the next game … thursday ??

  19. packalum44 06/18/2013 at 11:28 PM #

It doesn’t take too much baseball acumen to realize that Holliday and Avent lost us the game tonight.

I won’t watch Thursday. I can’t think of a worse way to bow out of the CWS…

  20. Wulfpack 06/18/2013 at 11:34 PM #

Really poor game management there tonight. Going to have to do it the hard way now.

  21. inhoc... 06/18/2013 at 11:34 PM #

As sick as I am over losing (as always), that shot to left would have been a 3 run homer virtually the rest of the year. The pack made two mistakes and beat it self tonight, and didn’t have any help from the other team nor the gods of the game. That ball to left drops like usual, and the game tilts a bit, and if J doesn’t throw a wild pitch, the same is true.

UCLA got lucky wining against USC, and got a couple breaks beating State tonight. I’m actually sort of glad that LSU is out of the picture because they are nasty. State just needed one fucking break tonight to get past UCLA, which was the best opponent state could have faced on this side of the bracket. Now its time to see Rodon on thursday.

  22. inhoc... 06/18/2013 at 11:40 PM #

****I guess I need to start copying my comments before posting because anything over a couple sentences just doesn’t post and I have to start all over again.***

I wouldn’t blame this game entirely on managing. That shot to left falls, and it’s a totally different ball game. Due to the nature of this park it was just different tonight. UCLA got a run off a wild pitch that you could blame on managing keeping J in too long, so I give it 50/50. Either way, this was a more favorable matchup than LSU. Thats a nasty team that UCLA was very luck to beat and slightly less lucky to beat State. It’s a moot point now since State couldn’t handle its OWN biznass tonight, which sucks major donkey dick.

Now it’s time to see Rodon do work on thursday so state doesn’t have to play from behind anymore…goddamn holes are still in it.

I totally agree Jernigan should have left the game sooner. Coaching did us in. Now its time for Superman (Rodon) to save the day, and do it to the holes again.

  24. Whiteshoes67 06/19/2013 at 12:16 AM #

Lost opportunity tonight. Too many mistake across the board. Too long of a leash with Jernigan, who should’ve been pulled at the latest after UCLA had runners on 1st and 2nd, with the top of the lineup coming up. Of course, I don’t think Avent had anybody warm by then. The base running error in the 3rd was really inexcusable. Throw in poor execution of a sac bunt in the 8th, and a passed ball with a runner on 3rd (if that was scored a wild pitch, it shouldn’t have been).

After watching the super, I thought we’d need to really cut down on mistakes. This team just isn’t built to put up big numbers against solid right handed pitching.

It’ll be interesting to see who Avent throws versus the Holes on Thursday. Big boy will want the ball, and throwing on 3 days rest isn’t that big of a deal. Got to get past them, but the bigger problem is that you’ve got to win 3 to move on. Knowing that, I’d throw Stone and have all hands on deck. No way Ogburn gets the ball against that bunch.

Since this is the first loss since the 18-inning loss against UN* in the ACC Tournament, I hardly think tonight’s loss is an indictment of Avent. If Adametz stays at third instead of heading home in the second, we have two runs on the board. Too many what ifs in this loss to blame Avent and Holliday (and trust me when I tell you that I have found several losses over the years that I place directly on Avent’s shoulders. This one isn’t one of them.) Still lots to play for and a familiar foe to beat up once more!
