Pack9 Moves on to Supers

blockSbaseball

Wolfpack Baseball (47-14) continued down the path to Omaha Sunday night with a convincing 9-2 victory over the Tribe of William & Mary (39-24).

At the plate, Tarran Senay wasted no time in continuing his torrid post-season as he crushed a three run shot into the trees beyond right field in the first inning to give the Pack an early 3-0 lead.  The blast was Senay’s 8th of the season and 2nd during the regional.  He would add a 2 out 2RBI single during the Pack’s 3 run eight inning as well, giving him a nice little 2 for 5 effort with 5 RBIs on the night.

Jake Fincher (3 for 5, RBI, run) and Logan Ratledge (3 for 4, RBI, 2 runs, double, stolen base) each had three-hit nights, while Grant Clyde (2 for 5) had two of his own.

As has been the case lately for the most part, State’s pitchers showed up with their game faces on.

Freshman lefthander Brad Stone (3-2) would get the start for the Pack and earn the victory by scattering 4 hits over the course of 5.1 scoreless innings of work.  He struck out 3 and walked no one.

Ryan Wilkins would work two innings in relief of Stone, yielding 2 runs (1 earned) on 2 hits, with 3 Ks and no BBs.  He would then hand it off to Grant Sasser, who turned the lights out on the Tribe, and on the Raleigh Regional.  Sasser tossed 1.2 perfect innings, striking out 3 of the 5 batters he faced to secure the victory and the Pack’s second consecutive trip into the Super Regional round.

Box Score

The entire Wolfpack infield made the All-Regional team (Senay (1B), Ratledge (2B), Turner (SS), Clyde (3B)) as did Jake Fincher (RF) and of course, Carlos Rodon (P).

Along with the Pack, FSU and UVa both emerged perfect from their regionals yesterday.

VT, Clemson and Miami were all eliminated yesterday.

GT (vs Vandy, 7pm) and Carolina (vs FAU, 6pm) must both win tonight.

And the effing Oregon Ducks survived two elimination games on Sunday.  They play again tonight at 9pm vs Rice.  If they win, the Pack will travel to Eugene for super regionals.

If Rice prevails however, the Pack will welcome the Owls to Raleigh next weekend for the best of three supers, beginning either Friday or Saturday.

So…..Snap, Crackle and Pop, Dammit!!!!

Go Owls!!!!!

(both the Rice and FAU varieties, that is 🙂 )

Bring on Rice! First ever Raleigh Super Regional!

  2. blpack 06/04/2013 at 12:52 AM #

This is what justice looks like. State will get its Super Regional after all! Now we can make our own destiny and that is all you can ask. Go Pack!

    Heh. Heels screwed again.

    Love it.

Way to go Rice Owls, thank you, now if the Florida Atlantic Owls could do likewise. How perfect, but the one that counts the most did happen. Time to host a super regional in Raleigh. Go Pack!

Heels win it in 13 innings on the Stubbs base hit going the other way down the left field line.

I threw up in my mouth a little bit listening to the announcers on this one. Could you be MORE effing Carolina homers? Holy shit, man. I think they need to go change their shorts they’re so happy.

  6. StateofthePack 06/04/2013 at 1:20 AM #

I believe it was Unc’s Jones Angell who was doing play by play on the espn3 feed….that explains the homerisms

Well, he did Woody Durham proud, lemme tell ya.

  8. MrPlywood 06/04/2013 at 1:30 AM #

Well, like I said before, I’d just as soon see State beat the Holes on the national stage anyway.

    Series starts Friday 4pm.

All game times 4pm (Fri, Sat and Sun)

    Fri and Sat on ESPN2

    Sun on ESPNU (if necessary)

    That is all….for now.

Pitching doomed the Owls of FAU, against the holes. But again the Owls of Rice did us a favor. Go Pack!

If Rice can whip us at home, then more power to them-I like our chances.

The Gamecocks vs. the holes…I’m already worried for Highstck’s blood pressure!

Stick will be “on the watch”. This could be really fun!

It’s not listed at GoPack.com, but the ESPN3 listing for upcoming events indicates that the Friday game will be online.

Question. With the MLB Draft happening on Thursday, what does it entail for our recruits? Anyone know anything?

I don’t forsee any of our juniors getting drafted high enough to not come back next year, but I am curious about our incoming freshman.

ruffles31- Joe O’Donnell (Hoggard) could be a risk. He’s the top high school pitcher in NC (or overall prospect, don’t recall which). I’ll have to dig around on the rest.

Edit: Brain cramp, Harvey is the top prospect (Pro, all the way). O’Donnell is a pretty highly rated prospect still, and still a risk.

Avent needs a valet guy…if ya know what I mean.

Dr., do you have a good link to HS recruiting for Pack baseball? My apologies if I’m asking for any sources or if it’s available on the google. Can’t seem to find anything about next year’s recruits.

    EDIT 1:
I think I found a good source here, unless anyone has a better one
    http://www.perfectgame.org/college/CollegeCommitments.aspx

    EDIT 2:
What happened to the Charlotte HS connection?!?!?

  19. vtpackfan 06/04/2013 at 9:40 PM #

I did a little bit of Valet at Treybotne years ago. Parked K’s and AD Butters cars for them. What’s up with how Fox parks first rounders? Did we pull it off with Rodon and Austin or just get young men who, along with their parents, put College above all else?

Doesn’t matter too much to me-we’ve done better scouting NC talent and always ply on the JC gravy train. MLB draft only catches my eye for current Jrs on the roster, which we currently have very little of.

While I am at the game Friday rooting for the Pack, I also decided to be a Carolina fan. South that is. Go Gamecocks.

2 tix?! Near Cow – I can’t do this all TV land.

Cowdog, in 1975, I would have been a “dyed in the wool Wolfpack fan” and South Carolina wasn’t on my list at all…We were still living in Raleigh bleeding red and white…My tolerance of the Gamecocks came very slowly and really not until Lou showed up in Columbia, my son was in school there(playing 1st trumpet in the band), and we decided to buy season tickets for “kicks”…Then I got hooked…

My Yankee connection always made me a fan of Bobby Richardson, but having Ray there really got me caught up in it…Plus a son or two of friends of mine in Florence played for the Cocks back in the 90’s.

One of most fun mornings on a flight out of Florence to Minneapolis was when a Mom(who worked for US Air Express) asked me if I’d make sure her daughter could get through the maze of the Charlotte Airport to go visit her boyfriend in Ca…She was the starting shortstop for the Lady Gamecocks’ softball team…

Also remember, I have a connection with Odom and an assistant of his..

I detested those suckers for years until the “urange” made me sicker…

Did you see Leggett’s latest? I know he’s a good coach, but he sure does like to whine.. Now it’s the “balls aren’t fair” and they should not have had to play in Columbia…

    Get over it!

    Random trivia moment:
BR hit a grand slam and set a World Series record of 6 RPI’s in one game on the day that I was born.

Dang, Va…I was watching that game in 1960…

I’m leaving for Seattle on Monday and will hopefully be carrying both a Gamecock and NC State baseball cap. Heck, I’m carrying the State hat no matter what…Maybe they won’t mistake it for Stanford in Seattle…
