Pack9 Looks to Close Out Owls, Head to Omaha – Game Two Thread

blockSbaseball

In a game that looked like hopes were dimming (to put it mildly), Wolfpack Baseball was able to scratch out two runs in the bottom of the 9th Saturday to pull out a come from behind victory.  The game winner was of course courtesy of one Mr. Jake Fincher, who pulled the ball hard into left field for the winning RBI single to give the Pack the 4-3 walk off victory.

Hopefully the rest of the team didn’t hurt Jakie too badly as they chased him down post-game.

Of course, none of that matters if Logan Ratledge doesn’t drop a beauty of a bunt, squeezing Brett Williams from third to tie the game at three in the first place.

Check out the highlights below, but beware of Paul LoDuca’s eyebrows…don’t look directly at them….

A shaky Carlos Rodon (which is still better than 95% of the rest of the pitchers out there) kept the Pack close enough but took a no decision.  Josh Easley took the victory (7-2).

Box Score

Saturday’s win put the Wolfpack (48-14) one win away from someplace they haven’t been in 45 years.  Omaha.  Win one of the next two and close out the Owls, and that drought will be broken.

Game Two between the Pack and the Owls gets going at 4pm on Sunday on ESPNU and ESPN3.

Nitpicky details: Pack will be the road team for Sunday’s game.

Tickets Punched

Should the Pack win one of the next two and get to Omaha, two of the teams which would be in their bracket already punched their tickets Saturday night.

UCLA topped CS Fullerton to complete a 2-0 sweep of the Titans on the road and will thus claim the #5 seed slot in Omaha.

Their first round opponent will be the #4 seeded Tigers from LSU, who dispatched Oklahoma in impressive fashion in Baton Rouge to dump the Sooners, 2-0.

Elsewhere Sunday

North vs South – Chapel Hill Game Two – 1pm, ESPN (Heels lead ‘Cocks 1-0)

FSU vs Indiana – Tallahassee Game Two – 1pm, ESPNU (Hoosiers lead ‘Noles 1-0)

Vandy vs ‘Ville – Nashville Game Two – 4pm, ESPN (Cards lead ‘Dores 1-0)

UVa vs Miss.St. – Charlottesville Game Two – 7pm, ESPN2 (Bulldogs lead ‘Hoos 1-0)

Oregon St vs K State – Corvallis Game Two – 10pm, ESPNU (Cats lead Beavers 1-0)

So, use this thread to talk it up on Sunday…really loving the chatter.

We’ll do the same as usual with updates and probably pseudo play x play in the comments.

Let’s Go Pack!!! Close it out TODAY!!!

Nope…no pitching change…Stevens stays in to face Turner…

  2. Wufpacker 06/09/2013 at 6:17 PM #

Turner gets the benefit of a misjudge by Rice CF, Pack has ’em loaded with nobody away….

  3. Whiteshoes67 06/09/2013 at 6:17 PM #

Wrong call by avent & rice helps out again

  4. Wufpacker 06/09/2013 at 6:18 PM #

FC forces the runner at 2nd, Rice can’t make the turn for the DP…run scores….

    2-1 Rice, runners at the corners…one away…

  5. Whiteshoes67 06/09/2013 at 6:19 PM #

Need a hit from Austin. Why he hits 3 is perplexing

  6. Wufpacker 06/09/2013 at 6:19 PM #

And in comes Zech if Graham makes it to the mound without needing defibrillation…..

  7. BJD95 06/09/2013 at 6:20 PM #

I would never, ever sac bunt with my best hitter. Now we just need Austin to get it in the air.

  8. Whiteshoes67 06/09/2013 at 6:22 PM #

Down 2, nobody out with runners on 1st & 2nd the runners have to be moved over into scoring position

  9. Wufpacker 06/09/2013 at 6:22 PM #

    Shit

  10. Whiteshoes67 06/09/2013 at 6:23 PM #

These Owls are real pricks, aren’t they?

  12. Wufpacker 06/09/2013 at 6:23 PM #

Missed a golden opportunity there…hope we get another.

  13. Gene 06/09/2013 at 6:23 PM #

Dear god, what idiot coach sent the runner at 3rd on a shallow pop-fly?

  14. Whiteshoes67 06/09/2013 at 6:25 PM #

For the second day in a row, we bring in a lefty against their hottest bat, a guy who hits 50+ points higher versus lefties

  15. elvislives 06/09/2013 at 6:25 PM #

Just not deep enough to send the runner there. I like being aggressive, but would rather have sent Jake on a straight steal to set up 2nd and 3rd or see another suicide.

They’re into their pen, hope that is a sign of life for the Pack in the next 2 innings.

You don’t bunt with Turner, Senay, or Clyde. It’s worth letting them swing away in any circumstance.

  17. Wufpacker 06/09/2013 at 6:29 PM #

Another solo shot…this one by Aquino…to lead off Owls’ 7th….3-1 Rice, nobody away.

  18. BJD95 06/09/2013 at 6:29 PM #

Murder pitch gets murdered. Looking like game 3 tomorrow with much rain in the forecast.

  19. Wufpacker 06/09/2013 at 6:30 PM #

K swinging for out number one…

  20. elvislives 06/09/2013 at 6:31 PM #

Lots of ball left to be played…

  21. Wufpacker 06/09/2013 at 6:33 PM #

    Another K swinging…two down…

    And a 3rd ends it…going to the 8th.

    3-1 Rice.

‘Atta boy Woeck, way to battle. Let’s get those runs back Pack.

  23. packpowerfan 06/09/2013 at 6:36 PM #

Woeck is gonna need some more meth after this game. He is a terrifying looking dude.

  24. BJD95 06/09/2013 at 6:37 PM #

We can get the top of the order around once more. And I play to win, not tie. Except in very particular circumstances.

Nice to see Woeck bear down and finish the inning strong.

Let’s at least get LeMond’s pitch count up.
