Pack9 Looks to Close Out Owls, Head to Omaha – Game Two Thread

blockSbaseball

In a game that looked like hopes were dimming (to put it mildly), Wolfpack Baseball was able to scratch out two runs in the bottom of the 9th Saturday to pull out a come from behind victory.  The game winner was of course courtesy of one Mr. Jake Fincher, who pulled the ball hard into left field for the winning RBI single to give the Pack the 4-3 walk off victory.

Hopefully the rest of the team didn’t hurt Jakie too badly as they chased him down post-game.

Of course, none of that matters if Logan Ratledge doesn’t drop a beauty of a bunt, squeezing Brett Williams from third to tie the game at three in the first place.

Check out the highlights below, but beware of Paul LoDuca’s eyebrows…don’t look directly at them….

A shaky Carlos Rodon (which is still better than 95% of the rest of the pitchers out there) kept the Pack close enough but took a no decision.  Josh Easley took the victory (7-2).

Box Score

Saturday’s win put the Wolfpack (48-14) one win away from someplace they haven’t been in 45 years.  Omaha.  Win one of the next two and close out the Owls, and that drought will be broken.

Game Two between the Pack and the Owls gets going at 4pm on Sunday on ESPNU and ESPN3.

Nitpicky details: Pack will be the road team for Sunday’s game.

Tickets Punched

Should the Pack win one of the next two and get to Omaha, two of the teams which would be in their bracket already punched their tickets Saturday night.

UCLA topped CS Fullerton to complete a 2-0 sweep of the Titans on the road and will thus claim the #5 seed slot in Omaha.

Their first round opponent will be the #4 seeded Tigers from LSU, who dispatched Oklahoma in impressive fashion in Baton Rouge to dump the Sooners, 2-0.

Elsewhere Sunday

North vs South – Chapel Hill Game Two – 1pm, ESPN (Heels lead ‘Cocks 1-0)

FSU vs Indiana – Tallahassee Game Two – 1pm, ESPNU (Hoosiers lead ‘Noles 1-0)

Vandy vs ‘Ville – Nashville Game Two – 4pm, ESPN (Cards lead ‘Dores 1-0)

UVa vs Miss.St. – Charlottesville Game Two – 7pm, ESPN2 (Bulldogs lead ‘Hoos 1-0)

Oregon St vs K State – Corvallis Game Two – 10pm, ESPNU (Cats lead Beavers 1-0)

So, use this thread to talk it up on Sunday…really loving the chatter.

We’ll do the same as usual with updates and probably pseudo play x play in the comments.

Let’s Go Pack!!! Close it out TODAY!!!

    well, no 18-inning-loss, anyway.

Has Tszam pitched today? Golly-I can’t believe the Rays drafted him. Great movement on his pitches, but substantial location problems.

I’d almost reach into the bag of tricks and get Ogburn loose ASAP.

Any word on when this will resume?

Hoping they’ll fake Avent out and he’ll go home and go to bed!

Some of you gave it away!

Gotta lean on your Seniors now if your Rice. Graham is definitely snoozing about now.

That field turf has been through hell. Was that a bald, worse for wear, spot I saw in centerfield?

It would be weird falling asleep before the conclusion of a 4pm game. But I’m on the verge.

Heat and Spurs tied at 56.. very entertaining Finals so far.

Sounds like they’re getting ready to pull the tarp and try to go.

    Yep

I’d say by 10 30 at the latest. Nothing official but just where logistically it stands now.

Cabs trying to get back in it versus miss st. If you want to watch somebody who knows how to coach, Conner is a good one to watch

    10:05 resume time they’re saying.

Has Rice burned Simms for the series? I hope so.

  17. mikeD 06/09/2013 at 9:56 PM #

Ok – I’m not a baseball guy. Love watching it, but never played past tee ball (I was pretty clumsy).

So who has the advantage here – Rice or the pack? They’re in the bottom with the go ahead runner on 1st, only one out. Will their offense continue well, or will we be able to survive to see another inning? Curious on your thoughts.

  18. BJD95 06/09/2013 at 9:59 PM #

Tough situation for our new pitcher to come in cold and throw strikes. 2-0 count, man on 1st.

  19. Texpack 06/09/2013 at 10:00 PM #

We have used a boat load of pitchers already. Rice has only used three. The longer it goes the more the advantage shifts to the Owls.

  20. Wufpacker 06/09/2013 at 10:06 PM #

Wow, Overman gonna try to continue.

  21. Texpack 06/09/2013 at 10:10 PM #

    Payback!

  22. Wufpacker 06/09/2013 at 10:10 PM #

Well, it’s about time we got one of those back.

Now let’s score one, sit their asses down, and go home.

    Dammit.

    UVa/MissSt in rain delay now.

Armstrong pops out to 1B in foul ground for out #1…

Ratledge walks with one away, Turner coming to bat…

Turner flies out to center, two away….

Fincher flies out to right to end it. Going to bottom 13.

  25. Wufpacker 06/09/2013 at 10:21 PM #

    One pitch, one out…F8…

Burner to Senay guarding the line…3U…two outs…
