Pack9 Looks to Close Out Owls, Head to Omaha – Game Two Thread

blockSbaseball

In a game that looked like hopes were dimming (to put it mildly), Wolfpack Baseball was able to scratch out two runs in the bottom of the 9th Saturday to pull out a come from behind victory.  The game winner was of course courtesy of one Mr. Jake Fincher, who pulled the ball hard into left field for the winning RBI single to give the Pack the 4-3 walk off victory.

Hopefully the rest of the team didn’t hurt Jakie too badly as they chased him down post-game.

Of course, none of that matters if Logan Ratledge doesn’t drop a beauty of a bunt, squeezing Brett Williams from third to tie the game at three in the first place.

Check out the highlights below, but beware of Paul LoDuca’s eyebrows…don’t look directly at them….

A shaky Carlos Rodon (which is still better than 95% of the rest of the pitchers out there) kept the Pack close enough but took a no decision.  Josh Easley took the victory (7-2).

Box Score

Saturday’s win put the Wolfpack (48-14) one win away from someplace they haven’t been in 45 years.  Omaha.  Win one of the next two and close out the Owls, and that drought will be broken.

Game Two between the Pack and the Owls gets going at 4pm on Sunday on ESPNU and ESPN3.

Nitpicky details: Pack will be the road team for Sunday’s game.

Tickets Punched

Should the Pack win one of the next two and get to Omaha, two of the teams which would be in their bracket already punched their tickets Saturday night.

UCLA topped CS Fullerton to complete a 2-0 sweep of the Titans on the road and will thus claim the #5 seed slot in Omaha.

Their first round opponent will be the #4 seeded Tigers from LSU, who dispatched Oklahoma in impressive fashion in Baton Rouge to dump the Sooners, 2-0.

Elsewhere Sunday

North vs South – Chapel Hill Game Two – 1pm, ESPN (Heels lead ‘Cocks 1-0)

FSU vs Indiana – Tallahassee Game Two – 1pm, ESPNU (Hoosiers lead ‘Noles 1-0)

Vandy vs ‘Ville – Nashville Game Two – 4pm, ESPN (Cards lead ‘Dores 1-0)

UVa vs Miss.St. – Charlottesville Game Two – 7pm, ESPN2 (Bulldogs lead ‘Hoos 1-0)

Oregon St vs K State – Corvallis Game Two – 10pm, ESPNU (Cats lead Beavers 1-0)

So, use this thread to talk it up on Sunday…really loving the chatter.

We’ll do the same as usual with updates and probably pseudo play x play in the comments.

Let’s Go Pack!!! Close it out TODAY!!!

I hate to say it, but you put the ball on the ground there with one of your best bunters to avoid exactly that same scenario. Seen it happen too many times

    PPF: Sam Adams Variety Pack?

I don’t want to imagine what the “morning after” sh-ts are like with that. Ouch.

Oh my…that was too close to take, how he didn’t get rung up I do not know.

I’ve aged about five years in the past couple of hours I think.

Going to the 11th, still tied 4-4.

    With rain delay looming.

Yeah, the Sam Adams seasonal. I DO have a Sierra Nevada Summerfest for maybe an inning. I have chickens to kill tomorrow…300k of em…and Game of Thrones in a half hour.

Whole new ball game, or continuation of a mess up?

  10. vtpackfan 06/09/2013 at 8:31 PM #

Chickens to kill tomorrow? Now there’s some Jobu hex we need now, but with 3k I like our chances Monday if need be.

Beer is dangerously low. Blueberry Hill on deck, and I don’t want to pitch to it.

“Chickens to kill”? Dang, I thought you were doing bad mojo on the Cocks!

  15. Wufpacker 06/09/2013 at 8:34 PM #

Going to 12th…we better score soon. I’m not down for another 18 inning loss.

  16. vtpackfan 06/09/2013 at 8:35 PM #

Need to plate one (atleast). I don’t feel solid about sending Overman out there again unless its for the Save.

  17. elvislives 06/09/2013 at 8:36 PM #

Time for a little bottom of the order rally. Overman looks sharp enough to close this thing out if the Pack can push a run across here in the 12th.

Chicken? Tuffy says owls taste like chicken.

And monkey boy gets a free pass.

Game over….we won’t see the end of the rain tonight…or at least, my crystal ball says so…
