4:06pm Update
State and Carolina both postpone Friday’s Super Regional games. (Link)
Tropical Storm Andrea caused the postponement of both the University of North Carolina’s first game in an NCAA baseball tournament Super Regional and NC State’s first Super Regional game.
The Tar Heels’ opener against South Carolina at Boshamer Stadium in Chapel Hill, originally scheduled to begin today at 1 p.m., will now be on Saturday at 12:05 p.m. The entire best-of-three Super Regional has been moved back by a day, with the second game now set for Sunday at 1 p.m., and the third game, if necessary, on Monday at a time to be determined.
Meanwhile, the opener of the Super Regional between N.C. State and Rice at the Wolfpack’s Doak Field, which had been scheduled for 4 p.m. today, has been delayed until 4 p.m. Saturday Details of television coverage are still to be determined.
The Wolfpack was slated Friday to send ace Carlos Rodon to the mound to face the Owls. During five postseason appearances, the left-handed sophomore has given up just 12 hits over 37 and two-thirds innings. He has 10.75 strikeouts per nine innings and a 0.72 ERA in those starts.
Rice was slated to counter with junior Austin Kubitza, who has an 8-2 record and a 2.02 ERA this season.
Probably a good thing that the game was called since it appears some of our players might have had a difficult time getting to the ballpark. This photo was tweeted by Tarran Senay just before today’s game was called….

The Doak Field at Dail Park box office will open for ticket will-call at noon on Saturday.
Tickets labelled “Session 1” are for Game 1 and will be honored Saturday. Session 2 tickets will be honored for Sunday’s game. Session 3 tickets are for Monday’s game, if necessary.
Monday’s game time and TV network will be determined on Sunday.

UPDATE: N.C. State is still planning to play tonight’s NCAA Super Regional baseball game against Rice at 7 p.m. According to an athletic department spokesman, “there is apparently a window from 7-10 p.m., with more rain expected between 11-12. A lot has to do with how the field holds up over the next three hours.†The Wolfpack official said he inspected the field at around 3 p.m. and found the outfield to be “soaked, but with no standing water.â€
Here is a link to more from Brett Friedlander regarding the difference in approaches to the situation from officials in Raleigh as compared to those in Chapel Hill.
North Carolina and the NCAA have decided to postpone today’s Game 1 of the Tar Heels’ Super Regional series against South Carolina at Boshamer Stadium. It will now be played Saturday at noon, with television coverage by ESPN. According to a statement, “The NCAA and the participating institutions all agreed this was in the best interest of the student-athletes and fans.â€
Game 2 of the best-of-three series will be played Sunday, at 1 p.m. on ESPN, while the Monday “if necessary†game time and network will be determined Sunday.
I’m not a baseball expert, but I’m not so sure trying to squeeze in the game tonight is the best step for the Pack. It just kinda feels like opening up a door for @NCState_Shit to more easily step through.
