This is gonna be mostly bullet point/bytes format, but figured Wolfpack Baseball deserved a separate entry recapping the weekend’s road sweep of GT rather than just some rogue stuff in the comments section of the GT preview.
–Game one, Mashing on Friday – After a more than five hour rain delay, State scores in all but one inning to take game one on Friday evening by a 13-4 final score. Senay goes 3 for 6 including a HR, 2 doubles and 6 RBIs. Turner also goes 3 for 6 and gets his 73rd career stolen base to tie Tom Sergio for #1 all time for the Pack.

–Game two, Rodon complete game on Saturday – Rodon Ks 10 and scatters 9 hits to notch the win (the 3rd CG win of his career) by a 6-2 final score. Turner goes 2 for 4 with a HR and 2 RBIs and gets his 74th stolen base to take over first place all by his lonesome on the Pack’s all time list.

–Game three, Pack perseveres Sunday – After Grant Clyde’s 3rd inning grand slam makes it 5-0 State, GT answers with authority and the Pack finds itself down 7-6 down the stretch. Pack manages to get two in the 9th small ball style, then Chris Overman slams the door on the Jackets in the 9th for the win.

–Chris Overman – throws only 48 pitches to work 4 scoreless innings on Sunday. He has still yet to surrender an earned run in 2013.
–Tarran Senay – knocks in 9 runs on the weekend.
–Trea Turner – breaks the Pack’s career stolen base mark (74) as a sophomore. And oh yeah, goes 8 for 14 in Atlanta for good measure. Now batting .437 on the season.
–Carlos Rodon – Hopefully returning to form at the right time. Saturday start seems to have agreed with him.

Notes
-This weekend’s sweep runs the Pack’s record to 32-10 (14-7 ACC).
-FSU (13-8) gets swept in Charlottesville, Clemson (13-8) drops 2/3 in Coral Gables, Wolfpack moves into sole possession of first place in the Atlantic Division.
-State has now won four straight conference series, including sweeps the past three weekends (vs VT, @BC, @GT).
-State makes a big jump back into the top 10 of the NCAA RPI rankings. With the road sweep of GT, RPI currently sits at #8; this is a big deal for the Pack’s hopes of hosting a regional and hopefully garnering one of 8 national seeds (ie, super regional hosting) in the upcoming NCAA tournament.
-The Pack has now won 14 consecutive games and 16 of 17 since getting swept on the road @UVa.
-The Wolfpack’s current 14 game win streak is tied for the longest current streak in the nation. Any guesses as to who we’re tied with for that distinction? Hint: They bring their blue asses to Raleigh next weekend after sweeping Duke at home this weekend.
-State now comes home to Raleigh for their longest homestand of the year, but it will be anything but easy. A single game vs Davidson kicks things off on Tuesday at 6pm, then the Tar Heels roll into town for three next weekend, 4/26-4/28 (More on those assholes later in the week, of course). The Pack then gets some rest during the following week before a non-conf three game weekend series in Raleigh vs Presbyterian (5/3-5/5) and a single home date vs UNC-W (5/7). Then Atlantic Division rival (and probably pretty pissed off right about now) FSU rolls into town for three games (5/11-5/13).
-Next weekend’s home series vs Carolina will feature the two ACC division leaders.

And BC (God bless ’em…you knew I had to give them a mention) misses out on what might have been their best shot at a conference win as they get swept in Winston this weekend, including blowing an early 7-0 lead vs the Deacs on Sunday en route to an 11 inning 10-9 loss.
BC still has 9 shots at it in 2013 (3 vs Miami; 3 vs VT; 3 @UMd), but time is running out on them.
