Amerson to Washington (2nd), Glennon to Tampa (3rd), Wolff to Philly (5th)

Amerson a pretty laughable reach pick by an organization I don’t respect. Glennon finds an intriguing landing spot, a team with a young, but fringy QB in the last year of his contract. He won’t be forced to play right out of the gate, but he will get a shot late in the season if Freeman doesn’t step up bigtime (and I predict he won’t).

Earl Wolff will upgrade the Iggle secondary immediately. Won’t be any batteries chucked in his direction.

Freeman is awful. Great spot for Glennon

Amerson was a huge disappointment for us. I suspect he will be for his professional team. Sure he’ll have some good games but they will be offset by WTF blow the game type of coverages. Their current thug d-back comes to mind…used to play for ATL.

I think Glennon will be a really good QB and hope he starts within the first year. Would be AWESOME to have 4 teams to pull for! San Diego, Hawks’, TB and Panthers!

I am hoping Okafor falls to my Broncos at 90 so I quit cursing the stupid Montee Ball pick.

And sure wish the Panthers had a 3, damn it. Thanks again, Marty Hurney. May I piss on your figurative grave.

Interesting assessment of Glennon by Yahoo sports on the description of his pick

“While Glennon is a wildly inconsistent passer who makes too many bad decisions, he has an elite arm and is capable of making every NFL throw.”

First I’ve heard him described that way – maybe I slept through it before…

  6. bTHEredterror 04/27/2013 at 2:30 AM #

NFL network says it too, pretty much anyone who looks at him objectively can see his poor decision making at times. “Wildly inconsistent” might be a tad far though.

Even considering his lack of proven receivers, he wasn’t blameless in last years fiasco, I don’t see him as anything but a journeyman QB in the league. He’s Blaine Gabbert with a bigger arm.

Amerson is harder to read . If it was just greed, maybe he will grow up and be a solid player.

  7. wolfmanmat 04/27/2013 at 6:40 AM #

To be fair to Amerson and the pick, he was graded in the late 2nd or early 3rd. That said, if he gets burned deep in the NFL, don’t be surprised.

  8. Wulfpack 04/27/2013 at 9:22 AM #

That has been the knock on Glennon all along. That and his lack of mobility. I agree though this is a nice spot for him.

  9. vtpackfan 04/27/2013 at 9:26 AM #

I don’t know if MG has played in a system with a balanced run-pass system that was effective since maybe HS. He is smart enough to read where the blitz was coming from, but States “zone” OL blocking scheme virtually made any of a D’s front 7 a jail break candidate. The RW years were essentially a career extender for TOB and his OL Coaches.

I seriously thought Amerson would go undrafted. I was hoping that Glennon might go to the Jags, but Tampa is a good spot for him to land. He will be starting in two years.

BJD, I agree on the WTF Ball pick by Denver. If you are going to take a RB, I would rather have Lacey. I think GB got a steal there. (Bernard before Lacey… really?)

Okafor might be a nice DE pickup for them.

  11. JEOH2 04/27/2013 at 10:19 AM #

With his performance at the combine, no way Amerson was going undrafted…surprised he went in the 2nd round but didn’t think he’d fall too far

Good luck to him, wish much success

  12. BJD95 04/27/2013 at 10:37 AM #

Vol – then we compound the problem by overdrafting a 4th round graded CB in the 3rd (instead of Okafor). I’m about to lose my cotton picking mind. This is just too much after already gritting my teeth over Sly Williams in the 1st (good player, but a Butch Davis Hole is never happy news).

I was happy with the Magahee/Hillman/Moreno rotation, with maybe a 5th or 6th rounder worked into the mix. Best I can glean from interweb rumors is this likely means Magahee is cut so we have cap space to sign the corpse of Dwight Freeney. That is a dubious plan at best, IMHO.

Maybe Okafor keeps sliding, or Denver can pick up an early 4 for a 3 next year (from SF or someone else who has way more picks than they can use). We need someone to plug in when Freeney’s corpse status is confirmed.

I really wanted the Panthers to get Keenan Allen, blech.

Denver could definitely use Earl Wolff, fingers crossed for that in the 5th.

Both Amerson and Glennon can stick if they find the right spot and if they do the work to address the flaws they both have. Agreed Glennon potentially has a great position but to be able to step in there he will have to elevate his game in the areas where he is lacking. Part of that lack no doubt was the performance of last year’s Pack but he also has some things he has to address. Same goes for Amerson– significant talent and not a little skill but again there are some glaring weaknesses. I’m admit I’m biased but I just don’t think he was picked by a good organization.

  14. mak4dpak 04/27/2013 at 11:29 AM #

For the Glennon haters, that were sure he wouldn’t be drafted, he was a higher pick than Russell Wilson. So next time you feel like bashing one of our own, think again, cause you were wrong, and that is not saying I think he is better, but in the draft he was a higher pick. Congrats to Glennon and good luck in Tampa! Go Pack!

The Skins have done well with defensive draft picks the past few years. They’ve done a lot better personnel-wise since Bruce Allen took over as GM in 2009. It’s not like the Vinny Cerrato days (thank goodness). If it were mid-2000’s, it’d be more of a headscratcher to me than this. I’m just happy to see a Wolfpack player on the Redskins (obviously I’m a fan). It’s the first Pack player drafted by them since 2000 (Lloyd Harrison). The one before that – 1960 in the 18th round.

  16. Pack Leader 04/27/2013 at 11:37 AM #

I have always thought Wolf was a better DB than Amerson (2nd fastest 40 and highest vertical of ALL safteys in the draft).

Hoping Panthers scoop him up in a later round…

  17. packalum44 04/27/2013 at 11:38 AM #

No one is bashing Glennon. Just attempting to be objective. Kudos b/c most fans had a love affair with Wilson that made them very biased

Glennon has a higher ceiling than RW, who bless his heart, is in the PERFECT system/team/coach. Glennon is an NFL QB who can succeed on any team. He needs no scheme (run to set up the pass like RW/Rothesberger). That is not to say he doesn’t need good players all QBs do. But Glennon could throw up gaudy passing numbers on a shitty team. RW could not, IMO.

Whether Glennon materializes is a different story. He is certainly not a lock like Rivers but then again who is…

  18. BJD95 04/27/2013 at 11:58 AM #

As long as Lil’ Danny Snyder (hello, Napoleon complex) is the owner, they will be the Al Davis era Raiders.

I hope the Panthers get either or both of Quinton Patton (LTech) or Ace Sanders (Chickens). Each could be a fine #2 WR, longterm.

Denver didn’t address ILB, and I am hoping that means a role beyond special teams for Nate Irving.

  19. BJD95 04/27/2013 at 11:59 AM #

NFLN talking up Earl Wolff right now.

  20. tjfoose1 04/27/2013 at 12:05 PM #

A lot of Mike Glennon’s “bad decisions” originated from the same place as his NC State predecessor’s – pressing due to little help from his team and coaches, and the legitimate feeling of needing to carry his team.

I too would have taken Gio before Lacy. Pro backs like Lacy are a dime a dozen. Gio is special. More versatile, super high intangibles, and quality person. He will be the better pro.

  21. BJD95 04/27/2013 at 12:05 PM #

I hate Brian Kelly, but he’s a very good analyst.

  22. SaccoV 04/27/2013 at 12:30 PM #

Didn’t know this would turn into the de-facto draft discussion. I’m currently fulfilling my nerd requirements by tracking the draft. BJD, the pick of Amerson was a reach, I figured him for a fourth round pick. Too many blow-bys this past season to convince me he was better than 4th round. As for Bernard, he will make a significant impact now as a KR or PR, and perhaps work into a slot as an RB. Eddie Lacy is a RB only, and definitely not ready for 20 to 25 carries a game, especially considering Green Bay wins with Aaron Rodgers. I concur with hoping Earl Wolff is available for the Panthers.

  23. BJD95 04/27/2013 at 12:36 PM #

Patton will be there for the Panthers. Let’s hope they don’t f-ck it up.

  24. BJD95 04/27/2013 at 12:39 PM #

I loves me some NFL Draft. Especially since I have three teams to cheer for (Broncos, Panthers, Wolfpack).

Panthers take…some guard I’ve never heard of. Jeebus.

Steve Keim is doing great this draft with the Cards. Huzzah for another Pack alumnus.
