With only one game left for State, it appears the Pack can still be seeded anywhere between 3rd-5th for the ACC Tournament. The 3rd or 4th seed is uber-important because it’s unlikely any team will win four games in four days (it’s never been done in the ACC). So, starting on Friday matters.
Obviously, upsets happen (see: Georgia Tech’s tip-in winner over Miami last night), but Saturday chalk is 1 vs. 4 and 2 vs. 3. Most likely, Miami will be one and Duke two. Carolina has secured at least a four, so they are guaranteed a bye to Friday.
Here are the apparent scenarios for State:
State will be the 3rd seed if:
NCSU wins out AND Virginia finishes 1-1 (or 0-2) AND UNC loses to Duke
State will be the 4th seed if:
NCSU wins out AND UVA finishes 1-1 (or 0-2) AND UNC beats 2-0
State will be the 5th seed if:
None of the above happens.
So right now, tonight, you should all be rooting for Florida State.
