Spring Football Practice Starts Today & Roster Notes

Coach Doeren & the Pack open spring football practices this morning and conclude with the Spring Game on April 20th @ 1:30pm. Some of the media will have access to the early sessions of practice so we can expect to see a good bit of coverage which is a breath of fresh air that State has desperately needed. In fact, all of the social media access that we’ve seen coming out of this staff is amazing and I personally love the open nature this staff seems to have with promoting the program. Screen Shot 2013-03-19 at 12.32.23 AM

GoPack.com has put out the complete 2013 spring roster  which there are a few things to note that stand out to me at first glance:

  • DE Kenderius Whitehead is on the roster after being on and off the updates this spring while he was rumored to be dealing with some personal issues. I sure hope he’s gotten those straightened out for his personal well-being first but also for the added talent he adds to the DE position. 
  • Whitehead will wear #9 which is some mighty big shoes to follow.
  • Logan Winkles is not on the current roster which may have something to do with his recent DWI charge which you can read more about on the forums. (Keep in mind this doesn’t mean he’s off the team)
  • Early enrollees Ath Bra’lon Cherry and OL Cole Blankenship will start at WR & Center respectively.

We’ll keep you updated throughout the spring and looking forward to seeing you April 20th at The Carter

    Cherry is a speedster who has blown away the coaches with this work ethic and athletic ability during winter conditioning. He might be able to sneak on the field and yea he’s got solid hands.

    The videos up on Go Pack are everywhere, and they’re very good to watch. I suggest scrolling through to one called “Wolfpack Olympics”.
    We did something like this last year but the way our Coaches organized it, made it a Draft, caught the team by surprise, really shows the different direction the program is heading in.
    Coaching is like Teaching. You have to differentiate the modes of instruction our the environment starts to seem robotic-like an industrial line. I really regard highly the professionalism and gifts the last staff had, but I got the sense they had got stuck in the rut of just going through the some motions over and over again. Dorean has already created a sense that you better be ready because you don’t know what’s coming at you, you just better compete with all you have.

    Any word on uniforms??? Rolling with the same old or mixing it up any?

    Rumors are that there may be some changes in the uniforms. We shall see.
