Round of 32 Open Thread

Hopefully some of the later games will be more interesting than this (so far) ugly Shaka/Beilein brickfest. We can have snarky fun in the comments regardless.

2012 regional buddies ™ San Diego State missed their first free throw in the last minute of yesterday’s game. Finished 14-15.

And they are still plenty athletic.

Go Rams. For entropy’s sake. Though Louisville and Gonzaga are likeable for 1 seeds.

I got CSU and Wichita St in the Sweet 16

  3. BJD95 03/23/2013 at 6:04 PM #

Not a good day for entropy fans. So far, anyway.

Wichita v Zags and SD State v FL Gulf Coast are the two matchups I’m most excited about.

Anyone been to Co St’s campus? Very nice, as is the town Fort Collins where it resides. Wish they were keeping the game a little tighter, but not unexpected.

So many incredible micro breweries in Fort Collins. Neat place. Not surprised Shakas team lated an egg. Michigan guards are strong and VCU survives on sloppiness.

Little guys going down hard so far today. Louisville is the best I’ve seen this tourney.

If the Cards keep scoring like this, they might be unbeatable.

Wichita, Creighton, and FL Gulf Coast are the more dangerous little guys, I think. They have the best combo of depth, size, and athleticism.

Harvard is much weaker than the past two teams they fielded. I was shocked they weren’t a 15 or 16, and even more shocked when they beat NM.

Perhaps Alford is a tourney choker on the level of John Thompson III.

According to an Iowa bud of mine Alford=Sendek in more ways than one!

He is definitely on my list of coaches never to trust in my brackets again!!

I watched a decent amount of the Shaka&Awe attack today. It was very frenetic, high energy D but wasn’t focused. Once Michigan calmed down, started coming to help the ball handler and moving to open spots to take advantage of the double teams, they ate VCU alive.

It gave me flashbacks of the many lazy passes I saw from State this year, especially from the 1 to a 2 or 3 on the wing. How many of those got picked off this year?

  13. Alpha Wolf 03/23/2013 at 7:43 PM #

Funny thing is that I was thinking about our lazy passes and how Louisville would utterly throttle our team.

I think the Butler/Marquette game will be fun to watch. Buzz vs. Brad. I’m calling a BUZZer beater finish!

  15. BJD95 03/23/2013 at 8:11 PM #

Yes, the Ville would beat us by 40.

  16. BJD95 03/23/2013 at 8:28 PM #

Looks like the A10 is great at reaching the Round of 32, then shitting the bed royally.

Shaka Smart’s agent has just announced that he is NOT a candidate for the Kentucky job.

  18. Alpha Wolf 03/23/2013 at 9:34 PM #

I wonder if Debbie Yow would go at Smart with more money if given a second chance….

Olynk will be a great NBA player since he is already used to the star treatment from the refs. They finally called him on his eighth moving screen. Gonzaga is so overrated its unreal.

  20. Texpack 03/23/2013 at 10:11 PM #

Nine steps by the Zags to draw the foul

  21. Texpack 03/23/2013 at 10:13 PM #

Zags will win it all if they can keep these refs

  22. TheAliasTroll 03/23/2013 at 10:30 PM #

damn that was exciting Butler game.. no buzz beater tho

  23. Wulfpack 03/23/2013 at 10:35 PM #

Little guys going down in droves today. At least one of Gonzaga or Wichita State will advance. Hope it is the Shockers.

  24. MrPlywood 03/23/2013 at 10:37 PM #

    Buzz beater… that took me a second…

Marquette tried to give it away but got the win. Butler’s Clarke had a decent flop and got a charge call, then Marquette got an iffy over the back call. Not a fan of the Butler flop attempt on the next to last inbound play for Marquette. A10 loses another.

I liken Gonzaga to ND football this past year.. once they have to play a real team they are going to get their ass kicked. Can you imagine what Louisville would do to them?
