Round of 32 Open Thread, Redux

Fred Hoiberg’s bunch giving the Buckeyes all they can handle. Here’s to more competitive basketball (though Marquette/Butler was epic), and two blue losses today.

Starting to think Wyatt may be the best player we faced all year. I never hear anything about him in the NBA, which is further proof that “the association” isn’t really basketball. Just basketball-themed entertainment.

Yep. Makes it hard to watch. Then watch the head of officials justify that crap…of course, none of the dolts asked him that question either.

On a brighter note Wyatt is definitely a baller.

re: charge/block – a good rule of thumb would be whether or not the guy on D could actually stand up after he established “position”. I’ve seen way to many lately where the D just jumped under the O and would have fallen over backwards with no contact.

I think it was the Marquette game where the O guy for M was driving and pulled up in time to get his shot off and the Butler guy flopped and got the charge. The M guy went just about straight up, but the anticipation call was made.

After the initial 3-for-3 flurry, Temple has done a great job locking down Oladipo (much like they did Woo). Predictably, the Hoosiers are struggling to score.

I doubt Temple wins, but I would be pretty surprised if IU gets past Syracuse. This game tape is gonna be gold. Gold, Jerry. Gold!

    Ha ha….Seinfeld references. 🙂

My favorite new catchphrase, btw…is…A little of Column A, a little of Column B.

Wyatt is good, likely NOT the best player we’ve played.

The whole thing is sad, because this shows how vulnerable any team is when played by kids with heart. IU looks completely beatable. State had/has more talent than Temple (but the heart of a mouse).

Hard to understand why kids get on the floor when you not willing to defend with equal energy and tenacity as scoring the ball.

  7. BJD95 03/24/2013 at 3:52 PM #

We played with amazing heart in the ACCT, even when we played bad (against Miami). I hate that it didn’t carry over.

Never understood the view that IU was some kind of goliath. They are very steady, but shit. Minnesota beat them. Illinois too.

Wyatt is carrying Temple. He will have to keep this up for the Owls to advance. Indiana played a poor first half after starting strong. I would imagine they will try to get Zeller going down low. Like all the other 1s, IU is beatable.

Assuming that IU gets by the Owls, I’d take the bet against Cuse. The Orangemen couldn’t run away from Cal. And, Cal floundered about the Pac-12. Despite what Barkley rambles on about at half the Pac-12 is weak.

Its inspiring to see Temple putting it all out there against IU, but can’t handle having them beat IU because it just highlights the sad sad mindset of the Pack.

Quite frankly, I just can’t get over watching CJL play defense on the 22nd. I think it did lasting damage.

So when does the #1 seed in the East play. Night session?

  12. BJD95 03/24/2013 at 4:08 PM #

My thinking is that Cuse already played their clunker offensive game. I mean, they went 12 minutes without a basket and still won fairly comfortably.

I agree, Cal’s not any good. Oregon did impress me yesterday. SL was a very good team, and the Ducks made them look silly.

    Definitely enjoying this unpredictable tourney.

How has it not yet been mentioned that Karl Hess was part of the turrible officiating crew that hosed NC State’s doppelgänger out of a Sweet 16 berth?

  14. BJD95 03/24/2013 at 4:13 PM #

There’s another ridiculous charge call. Of course idiot Clark thinks it was good call. Game changer.

  15. BJD95 03/24/2013 at 4:20 PM #

Another thought – I wonder if Indiana relaxed a little when Temple beat us (especially knowing Wyatt was banged up). Everybody talked about the potential danger of playing a high-upside NC State team. I never heard any talking heads discuss the Temple matchup.

They certainly haven’t shown much of an edge after jumping out to that early 9 point lead.

Is there a less aesthetically pleasing family anywhere than the Zellers?

  17. Wulfpack 03/24/2013 at 4:27 PM #

The officials are missing a ton of calls down low committed on Zeller. He is very frustrated but is starting to take control down low. Long way to go still.

“Is there a less aesthetically pleasing family anywhere than the Zellers?”

    Ryan Kelly’s family?

  19. BJD95 03/24/2013 at 4:35 PM #

Kelly himself certainly resembles the business end of a babboon. But I don’t remember what his people look like.

“Is there a less aesthetically pleasing family anywhere than the Zellers?”

That family in “The Hills Have Eyes” come close, but I think they were circus people with additional makeup.

The Zellers ain’t pretty is what I’m saying.

  21. BJD95 03/24/2013 at 4:39 PM #

I’m telling ya, man. It’s oladipo who will win this one. If they win.

  22. BJD95 03/24/2013 at 4:43 PM #

I’m gonna get the shakes when tomorrow comes and only the NIT is on.

  23. elvislives 03/24/2013 at 4:47 PM #

Zeller is as soft as Charmin. Dude plays about half his size.

  24. redcanine 03/24/2013 at 4:47 PM #

Temple plays good transition D. Good help D too. They stop the ball no matter where it’s headed.

  25. MrPlywood 03/24/2013 at 4:48 PM #

errrgh… the Pack coulda/shoulda beat both these teams.
