Pack Loses Thursday Off, ACC Loses Last Shred of Credibility

In the most incompetently officiated game I have ever seen, on any level…NC State falls to the 5th seed and 11-7.

Anyone who doesn’t want to leave this bullshit joke of a conference needs their head examined.

The game has also been ruined by the NBA. Too many guys leaving leaving programs decimated. I think the quality of play is way down. Some very boring teams out there.

I think I’ll jump on board the “where’s Tyler” train. I thought there were times throughout the game – especially in the first half when it would have beneficial to pull Zo out and offer him some tough love on the sidelines. Especially during that tough stretch in the first half when he fell asleep defensively, didn’t take good care of the ball, and failed to run the half-court offense effectively. Tyler has earned the right to spell him when such happens. In addition, there are things that Tyler actually does a bit better than Zo. Tyler effectively drives and dishes, and, he actually does a great job of setting screens – an important part of our offense.

I’m about ready to mix up some sangrita and find my prized bottle of Tequila and have a couple of doubles….

I am very disappointed. I knew the line was close. I also thought that FSU would be down (emotionaly and physically) as they had one day less to prepare than we did…..even though it was a road trip.

I know the first FSU game was an anomaly…..but figured would would gut it out. Listened tomost of it on the radio, so I can’t give first hand knowledge….but the last 60 seconds that I saw were about the way he radio guys described the entire game.

I do NOT have as much hope for this team as I did earlier and it is NOT the team of last year.

This team has some issues…..and they are well hidden…..and not being an insider, I can only speculate…..but the turmoil and undercurrents are becoming more visible and the total picture is getting a little clearer.

Wood has commented that he is not allowed t say….there were some comments about “Locker Room” issues during the UNC game and some observations from folks that SHOULD know…..and they were supposedly addressed.

THEN there are the off court issues that are getting MORE comments…..probabably and I certainly hope so….all fiction.

I WOULD not predict that we will lose Bobby Lutz next year. Think he is pretty much a shoe-in….and will be on our bench…..I do NOT honestly know any more than that, but Bobby is an asset and we will keep him.

Supposedly all the rumors and inuendo have “been taken care of”…..and I certainly hope that it was ALL just that….

I am still going to the ACCT, but I think that I will NOT be peddling my Thursday ducats….

MD will have an uphill road at UVA…..and it is discouraging when your depend on OTHERS to carry your water and solidify your seeding.

At least we have Monday to look forward to. Going to enjoy the pre-screening of “Survive and Advance”.

I certainly wish that Whitt or Harig could have done the pre-game pep talk and told the team that they MIGHT be a team of destiny….but they needed to play like a team that was handed a golden opportunity.

Think about that…..Whitt could have talked about coming back and the team rallying and how they wrote Jimmy V.’s final epitiath….

Or Jim Harig…..he could tell them how he and Pepperdine had the pack DOWN so bad that it was less than a 10% chance of pulling it out….but Jimmy V and the team did.

Today’s team did NOT display that attitude….and I guess that I will throw in the coaches…..so I am disappointed, but will cheer for them next week and NOT toss a water bottle at CJ….even when he embarasses himself as he did today.

Sangrita is calling….and will be accompanied by his buddy, Mr. T.

What the heck was that turnover with about two minutes left? Who threw that away?

  5. Tuffy2 03/09/2013 at 7:00 PM #

“Is he a perfect coach? Nope, there isn’t one. Even V pulled some boner moves and had teams that had their issues. But let’s compare Gott to every other coach after V and Gott wins every single time”.

Now that is saying a hell of a lot.

  6. Wufpacker 03/09/2013 at 7:00 PM #

“What the heck was that turnover with about two minutes left?”

LOL, you’ll have to be more specific.

  7. Whiteshoes67 03/09/2013 at 7:01 PM #

I agree that the game is an ugiler game. Rather than it being the officials fault, i generally think the game is uglier because players are less skilled. I think we’re seeing more athletic players, but not more skilled ones.

“That loss cost Gott $750k by the way. Win 12 league games and he was to get the bonus. ”

Yeah, that sucks. 12 wins will probably require some defense to achieve, though. Maybe one day….

I often wonder why some teams with much less supposed talent play so much harder. That’s why I’m disappointed in this team (going back to the other blog post). Not the W/L record. It’s the apathy at times, the sloppy play, the lapses where the effort just disappears, the continued presence of poor decision-making –often the same things over and over — by key players at crucial times, and the lack of improvement from the free throw line.

If we went out and left it all on the court every night, with the rare exception, I’d be much less frustrated by losing.

    Gotdammit, it’s Sangria Roo…Sangria.

Ply…I can’t believe you got Rick off the roof.

  10. WeAreCured 03/09/2013 at 7:21 PM #

750k!!! Oh, man… I probably wouldn’t sleep for a few days; replaying every bounce, tip, turnover, and missed free throw from all of the close ones this year in my head.

That has got to be very tough to swallow.

  11. Wufpacker 03/09/2013 at 7:23 PM #

^ Hopefully he’s trying to figure out the best way to still get the bonuses still available to him.

  12. Alpha Wolf 03/09/2013 at 7:26 PM #

I think we’re seeing more athletic players, but not more skilled ones.

Not too long ago, 50% from the field was not good, it was mediocre at best. 64% from the free throw line was unacceptable.

Then there are the basic fundamentals, like free throw shooting technique and defensive positioning, etc. Those seem to be lost arts on all but the best teams and/or players.

I think of it as an opportunity, though, because a coach who can take some of the mid-level (top 50 -125 or so) talent and coach ’em up to be above average in those areas is going to win a lot of titles with senior-laden teams.

    Didn’t watch…but I’m 3-1 over the past 4 not watching…

But, it sounds like something Andy Griffith once said…”What it is, isn’t basketball”!

I’m getting bored saying “Show Me”..

Bad officiating happens everywhere! Moving out of the ACC does reduce the Swofford/UnC influence though…

If we moved to the SEC next week, you’ll still be complaining about officiating, but for a different reason…Just keep that in perspective..

  14. Wulfpack 03/09/2013 at 7:32 PM #

AAU is also ruining the game. Some of these tournaments are nothing but street ball with the handler leading the way. Much less pure ball being played and a lot of these kids can’t take criticism. It’s all me me me. Tough mentality to break.

  15. PoppaJohn 03/09/2013 at 7:35 PM #

The formula for shutting down CJ (yep, he’s back) is to be physical with him. The good coaches see that. That is what he will see next week, and probably have a poor tournament.

CJ, guess what? That’s what it will be like EVERY MINUTE OF EVERY GAME IN THE NBA!!!!! Please go Pro next season. We will be better off without you.

  16. Alpha Wolf 03/09/2013 at 7:35 PM #

At least we don’t have team chemistry and self control issues like this…

  17. Thinkpack17 03/09/2013 at 7:36 PM #

I wanted another crack at UVA and Miami while at full strength. I begged for it…this one’s on me guys.

  18. Avid109 03/09/2013 at 7:40 PM #

I think that the team’s problem with today’s loss was a combination of poor and inconsistent officiating and the poor coping ability of some of our players. Leslie, in particular, seems to be very moody. When one or two things go wrong for him, he seems to go into a downward spiral. (On the flip side, when he’s on a roll, he can be almost unstoppable.) When Leslie goes on one of his downers, he usually drags the rest of the team with him.

I’m looking forward to the Pack picking up another ACC title, but it’s going to require some hard work (and some luck) for it to happen this year.

  19. PoppaJohn 03/09/2013 at 7:42 PM #

And as for those crying about the officiating? Each team had 22 fouls. Each had a technical. They had two foul out, we had one. So we actually got the better of it.

Was it bad officiating? Who cares?

  20. ADVENTUROO 03/09/2013 at 7:44 PM #

    Cowdog….

YOU need to do some reading. I understand the difference between Sangrita and Sangria…

Sangrita is the traditional tomato juice based item that you chase Tequilla with. I spent a lot of time in Mexico and drank a LOT of it…..

Here is your link…..there will be a pop quiz later….

I mix my own after I got several recipies when I was in Mexico….I probably spent 6 months total there during a 20 year period….so I drank a LOT of it.

    PoppaJ: yes it was.
    badddd officiating.
    i care.
but that’s not why we lost.

    1. away game.
    2. Gott’s 4-minute game.
    3. defense. My God, defense.

  22. Wulfpack 03/09/2013 at 7:49 PM #

I don’t think we’ve ever had a player as fragile as Leslie. I mean, what are you to do with him? When he’s good, man he is good. But when he is having an off day, boy is he bad. And I agree, it does rub off on the team. I saw Lo on him pretty hard today but it didn’t seem to work. I really don’t know how you coach this kid. I agree though, his NBA career is in serious jeopardy. I really don’t know why a team would draft him other than he is expendable and maybe you can develop him not something through the D league.

  23. TheCOWDOG 03/09/2013 at 7:52 PM #

Like those barking at officials…I jumped the gun,and misunderstood. Adventuroo…mea culpa.

  24. highstick 03/09/2013 at 7:52 PM #

Who “dat called out the old guys? I want his young ass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Who don’t know squat!

  25. ADVENTUROO 03/09/2013 at 7:53 PM #

    OK….here is the REF history.

In the FIRST game of the ACCT in 2012, it was
MD v. WF These guys wore the KH initials.

Jamie Luckie (he has called for us this year and it was UGLY)
    Mike Eades
BERNARD CLINTON (Watch this space….he will appear again).

Second game was NCSU v. BC

These guys were taken aside and had their KH initials removed.
    Les Jones
BRIAN DORSEY (more on him later)
    Sean Hull

In the semi final game….. NCSU v. UNC…..you will recall the verbal comments from the Refs and also from Gottfried and that fact that THAT was one of the WORST CALLED GAMES….

BRIAN DORSEY (the one who told Gott to keep his F’ing Mouth shut)
RAY NATILI…..BINGO….NOW we will see him again.
    Jim Nestor.

    TODAY…..NCSU v. ILI
BERNARD CLINTON…..got to wearh his KH signature sneaks…
RAY NATILI – Assisted Dorsey in the UNC fiasco.
Gary Maxwell….based on Radio, he “swallowed his whistle today several times as our guys were mugged…

SO, now you know…..could be payback….could be coincidence….

Was certainly a BAD performance by the Zeb’s
