Pack advances with 17 point win over VPI

NC State exerts energy on defense and shares the ball well on offense. Everything else clicked as you can see in the box score – like NC State’s 36-21 rebounding advantage. The Wolfpack wins 80-63 and Mark Gottfried improves his record to 3-0 vs Virginia Tech.

The game was close (State down 27-28) until the five minute mark of the first half when the Wolfpack started pulling away by converting turnovers to fast break points and when Virginia Tech couldn’t maintain torrid three point shooting that had carried over from the teams’ first game in Raleigh. State shot 12 of 14 from the free throw line in the second half and therefore never opened the door for the Hokies to make a run.

Mark Gottfried advances to 3-1 in the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament.

State plays Virginia at 2:30 tomorrow in the tournament quarterfinals. The Wolfpack defeated the Cavaliers 67-64 in the exact same Friday 4 vs 5 game in last year’s ACC Tournament.

I predicted 84-67 Pack. I also predicted that we’d win the tournament.

I didn’t get the impression that anyone was fatigued. They don’t have to travel, and AKAIK they don’t have to worry about studies over the weekend. For atmosphere and support, G’boro should be like a home game. I think they’ll be fine.

    Good win by the pack.

Howell finished with three fouls- I was worried he might get into early trouble with his first coming six minutes into the game, but fortunately the whistles went our way for most of the game. NCStateSh*t will have to wait another day.

I thought Lewis had a poor game- 3 fouls, 1 turnover. He did take advantage from the foul line though. Hopefully he gets some earlier minutes tomorrow and plays well.

It took a while for the defense to wake up- Tech got a few easy baskets early from defensive lapses. But clearly Brown stepped up the effort against Green. Great defensive job.

Frankly I’m just happy the team won’t end the year on a 3 game losing streak.

I picked us to lose, and am very happy to have been proven wrong.

Gameplan was great, and I thought overall effort was great. Good game. 🙂

I really like our chances against Virginia, the only bug-a-boo is that they are going to beat us to death. Literally. Clutch, grab, hold, punch. REPEAT.

Can’t believe that’s what passes for ACC basketball these days … Sad times. Not sure how much will be left in the tank if we do get past them. We’ll see.

I think we’re better working into a game with UVa-with a game under the belt moving right into the next. The Cavs are a type team that 3 or 4 days of preparing for can get cumbersome. Just roll into them with a good groove and make them adjust to you.

We should probably borrow pads from the FB team for this game. I hate all the grabbing, pushing, and outright assaults uva gets away with.If officials called the game correctly, most of their team would foul out the first half.
