Bucknell is killing me. They get it to 42-43 and then they go ice cold again. Butler is overrated.

  2. Wufpacker 03/21/2013 at 2:37 PM #

I knew coach Brad wouldn’t let me down with an early wtf exit.

OK, “knew” might be a bit strongly worded all things considered.

  3. JasonP 03/21/2013 at 2:41 PM #

Great 2nd half compared to the first (21-14!!) Butler not looking like such a good Sweet 16 pick now.

  4. Wufpacker 03/21/2013 at 2:42 PM #

Pitt better get their chit together in the 2nd half or they’re really gonna screw me over.

  5. JasonP 03/21/2013 at 2:43 PM #

The Cannibal Wheatstalks are up on the Panthers at half. Why do so many of ya’ll like Pitt?

  6. packalum44 03/21/2013 at 2:45 PM #

Butler has good synergy. There sum is greater than their parts. I don’t think any of their guys would start over any of ours but their team is almost as good (I think we’d be 2 point favorites).

Ugly to watch though all they do is play defense and jack 3s. A poor man’s UVA.

  7. TheCOWDOG 03/21/2013 at 2:48 PM #

Pitt is a notorious tourney team.

  8. ILPackfan 03/21/2013 at 2:50 PM #

So far I’m looking at 2-0 in my bracket. I’m waiting for the inevitable collapse somewhere between this evening and tomorrow.

  9. TheCOWDOG 03/21/2013 at 2:54 PM #

I don’t think Butler plays ugly at all. What’s wrong with D?

They work the offensive paint extraordinarily well. They aren’t 3 point dependent in the least.

    Is basketball nothing but transition?

^ Eye of the beholder. What’s wrong with good pitching? A lot if you want to sell tickets. Same to be said for defensively minded teams in all sports. Offense sells tickets whether basketball, football, hockey or baseball.

Would have been more accurate to describe them as boring. They are fundamentally sound team with few turnovers and hard nosed defense that jacks up a ton of 3s. Not an entertaining style.

    “Not an entertaining style.”

I refer you back to your own eye of the beholder statement. But given that most folks these days would rather watch a Kardashian than read a book (or watch a documentary, or hell….even a well crafted movie for that matter) I guess it’s not terribly surprising.

The NCAA just needs to get rid of the traveling rule. It’s on the books in name only in college hoops.

  13. BJD95 03/21/2013 at 3:30 PM #

Fun fact – Davidson’s best player is a Jew. Don’t see that too often.

NOTE – I am assuming, never met a “Cohen” that wasn’t part of the Tribe.

  14. Alpha Wolf 03/21/2013 at 3:30 PM #

    most folks these days

    Meaning people aged 14-34.

  15. Wufpacker 03/21/2013 at 3:33 PM #

I wish it was just an age group thing Alpha…I really do. And maybe it is and I’m just being short sighted and cynical. But it seems more pervasive than that to me.

  16. BJD95 03/21/2013 at 3:34 PM #

The only persuasive argument for fascism is that the entire Kardashian family could be summarily executed.

  17. Wufpacker 03/21/2013 at 3:35 PM #

    LOL BJD.

When a channel called “The Learning Channel” presents something called a Honey Boo Boo as a featured show, then how long can it be before society as a whole collapses? 😀

  19. ncsu1987 03/21/2013 at 3:39 PM #

Good God, Pitt about to single-handedly sink my entire bracket.

  20. BJD95 03/21/2013 at 3:39 PM #

    Tis now “Th’ Lurnin’ Channel”

  21. vtpackfan 03/21/2013 at 3:40 PM #

Butler just seems to have all the “intangibles” to reach the Final 4 again. They lose on the tale of the tape against any team here out, but they have all the intangibles that you need to win against any matchup.

With the field this year taking on the parity form of mediocrity, it wouldn’t surprise me in the least to see the Bulldogs that last one standing.

  22. BJD95 03/21/2013 at 3:43 PM #

The Gonzaga/Butler tilt was the best game I saw all year. If somebody else knocks out Ohio State, they could win it all.

  23. Wufpacker 03/21/2013 at 3:45 PM #

“Good God, Pitt about to single-handedly sink my entire bracket.”

    Ditto.

  24. BJD95 03/21/2013 at 3:48 PM #

Oh, ye of little Zags faith. They’re Jesuit, I think. They got a Pope, why not a national title too?

  25. MrPlywood 03/21/2013 at 3:51 PM #

By “ugly” I meant at that point in the game Butler was overplaying on D to the detriment of their O. They had a slew of bad shots and let Bucknell back in the game. For the record, I like defense, but I do prefer teams that look for quick points in transition as opposed to those that get a turnover then run their offense for 35 seconds without even looking for a fast break opportunity.

Also for the record, I don’t watch the Kardashians, I just watched a documentary on the West Memphis 3 and also watched Beasts of the Southern Wild which I was led to believe was a well crafted movie but which turned out to be an overwrought muddle masquerading as “magical realism”. So there.
