Going Pro (Third Update 10:30pm – Leslie, Brown and Warren Say They’re Undecided)

10:30pm Update: Joe Giglio says Brown, Warren still undecided on NBA future

Kim Banks, Brown’s mom, said she would be in Raleigh this week to talk to her son about his future. She also refuted the CBS report.

“I’ve seen the rumors,” Banks said. “I don’t know where they get that from. He hasn’t made a decision yet.”

Leslie, who almost left for the NBA last April, also seemed to deny the report on his Twitter account on Tuesday afternoon.

“Who said I was leaving,” Leslie tweeted.

Regarding Warren Giglio Added:

“If he’s a first-round pick, I think it would be a good decision,” said Warren, a former Wolfpack player who was an eighth-round pick of the Chicago Bulls in 1979.

But Warren also said he felt his son could be a lottery pick next year after a big sophomore season as the centerpiece of N.C. State’s offense.

“It’s too early to tell,” Warren said. “I want to see what he wants to do. It’s up to him but he knows he can play at the next level.”

**Update** CJ Leslie tweets “Who said I was leaving?”

This confirms to me that no one outside of maybe Coach and the team knows what is going on 100% of the time.

Well that didn’t take long…

For anyone interested, Draft Express has Zo listed as the #29th pick, CJ projected as the #35th pick and Richard Howell projected as the #57th pick. I fully expect these guys to improve their draft status at the NBA camps/workouts before the draft b/c they are both freakishly talented. It is tough to say we’ll be better off when losing 2 5-star elite-level talent guys but next year will really test Gottfried’s coaching as we’ll probably be starting ZERO upperclassmen.

As a side note, I’m hoping Scott Wood gets a shot, literally.  His height and shooting skills might lure a team into giving him a shot and usually all Wood needs is a shot.

Not surprising at all, figured this would happen. Wish them both the best at the next level!
I’ve been more worried about the others. We best hope that Rodney and TJ don’t jump.

Best of Luck! Get to work TL, balls in your hands!

Next year is a rebuilding year for us but, if everyone stays, we should be pretty solid the following year. I just hope the lunatic fringe will realize that and give the team a break. But knowing our fans, they will be looking for the torches and pitch forks towards the end of the season. Some will be ready to fire Gott and hire Rick Barnes – all the nonsense begins.

  4. Khan 03/26/2013 at 2:39 PM #

I might be out to lunch, but I’m really looking forward to seeing Tyler lead this team next year. That guy knows how to compete and you can tell he is a winner. Sure, he’s small, but he *seems* to know how to run a team and do more with less.

Definitely a hit to lose both CJ and Lo, but I think longer term, it could end up being more of a blessing than a curse….assuming our chemistry issues can now be cleared up, which is no guarantee.

WolfTrack, I think it is not a “we” best hope Rodney and TJ dont jump, but that “they” dont jump. Neither is ready and both would be making a huge mistake.

  6. BJD95 03/26/2013 at 2:40 PM #

Good luck to them both, the silver lining is that it will be easier to get the rest of the roster to turn the page for a fresh start, clean sheet, etc. This group definitely needs that.

Cat Barber is supposedly the real deal, and I look forward to seeing more of the dual PG look with him and WBS. It might have been difficult to fit Zo into the equation anyway (though we certainly would have, with his talent).

I saw him play. The guy is lightning quick and has a nice shot. IMO without Zo our guards are very shallow. We have 4 for three spots. I think Buckets will be playing the 4 most of the time.

As an aside, I always hoped Vandy could develop into a Withey type player. He has the size but it appears not the determination.

  8. Pack Mentality 03/26/2013 at 2:47 PM #

If Cat is a top notch point guard, we won’t be any worse off. Howell leaving will hurt, but not this. Yeah, you could make the depth argument, but I don’t see CJ ever being happy being the 3rd best big man. It’s all Gott’s players now.

I have speculated that Gott had to kiss these guys a**es so that they didn’t leave like Ryan Harrow. Wood and Howell were not going to leave so he didn’t have to coddle them as much. This coddling was lopsided and not extended to other members of the team which can cause resentment and chemistry issues, which is what we saw.

Good luck to them in the pros. Thanks for the past 2 years, we wouldn’t have been near as good without them. I’m looking forward to a bright future starting next year.

As long as we don’t lose anyone else we’re right where most of us figured we’d be all along. What I’d love to see is a young team that improves as the season progresses next year. Perhaps they can surprise us in a positive way, as compared to, say, this year, for example.

If anyone transfers now, with so much playing time available, that is going to raise some serious red flags to me. With all due respect to Jaqawn Raymond and TDT, these are guys we really can’t afford to lose.

  10. ruffles31 03/26/2013 at 2:49 PM #

Are they hiring an agent or are they leaving the possibility of coming back?

  11. JEOH2 03/26/2013 at 2:52 PM #

Considering the draft deadline isn’t for a couple of weeks…its actually a relief to know the status of these guys early. With guard Desmond Lee coming to visit this weekend, it can’t help but know that there will be plenty of room in the rotation…hope Brown & CJL can move up the boards a bit and sign some guaranteed contracts…

Lewis, Purvis, Turner, Warren, Anya…what a very young…albeit talented…starting rotation that would be…

  12. NCSU84 03/26/2013 at 2:53 PM #

Scott Wood will get a chance somewhere. There is ALWAYS room for a pure shooter in the NBA – trust me on that.

  13. BJD95 03/26/2013 at 2:56 PM #

I think Barber and Purvis definitely start. Not sure if the third starting guard will be Turner or WBS. Might be matchup dependent. But they should all play 25-30 mpg.

I don’t know anything about other guards we might bring in. Or possible JuCo bigs.

  14. Spike 03/26/2013 at 2:56 PM #

This is really a shame but no surprise at all. I will really hate to see Zo go. Leslie is a gamble either way, whether it be here or in the NBA. You never know whether Calvin or CJ will show up. I hope that Lutz does not get offered a quality head coaching job. That is definitely where he should be but I hope we can hang onto him. Next year will be a tough year for sure.

  15. JohnGalt78 03/26/2013 at 3:06 PM #

CJ going is not confirmed….talking to his mom about it tonight….according to Jeff Gravley

  16. vtpackfan 03/26/2013 at 3:20 PM #

If we get Lee, the JuCo Guard, I honestly think we have a good shot at locking down some perimeter play on D. I love the “lock down” player role, but with today’s game of teams going smaller you really need multiple solid perimeter defenders (such as Miami displayed). We essentially played the season with average at best perimeter defenders.

  17. tractor57 03/26/2013 at 3:24 PM #

If Zo and CJ declare for the draft I wish them well.

  18. JohnGalt78 03/26/2013 at 3:24 PM #

CJ just tweeted: “Who said I was leaving?”

  19. JohnGalt78 03/26/2013 at 3:26 PM #

    ……being re-tweeted around the globe

  20. JohnGalt78 03/26/2013 at 3:27 PM #

….if retweeted enough, it becomes fact. Right?

  21. Pack Leader 03/26/2013 at 3:29 PM #

Hate to see it, but something expected. Zo was easily the best player on out squad, but with that said, I believe Barber has the potential to be as good or better (over time).

To his own admission, Zo was not a very good jump shooter, which allowed teams to play off him more this year knowing his go to move was a drive. Cat, on the other hand, is a very good shooter as well has having elite driving skills.

I beileve it is good for the future to know in advance that they will be gone instead of waiting and future prospects passing on us.

Next year wont be our year, but we have the chance to be SCARY good in 2014. Has anybody seen those Martin Brothers tearing up the state? Talk about SKILLS.

  22. Rick 03/26/2013 at 3:31 PM #

I would love to see CJ come back

  23. sjmac11 03/26/2013 at 3:32 PM #

adios amigos, attitudes perfectly suited for the NBA

  24. Wulfpack 03/26/2013 at 3:36 PM #

Dont rule out Warren leaving. His stock is high. Going to be an interesting year next year. Just play hard.

  25. ringo 03/26/2013 at 3:36 PM #

    Good luck CJ and Lo.

What makes you think Warren’s stock is high?
