Florida Gulf Coast – An Appreciation

Like most Wolfpack types, I needed something to smile about tonight (and Villanova was unable and/or unwilling). Florida Gulf Coast proceeded to put on an athletic show at the expense of the most “successful” Princeton O program. The Hoyas were surly, unsportsmanlike (kicked a guy in the head, drawing a foul…on FGCU for pushing him out of the way), whiny…and out on the first weekend. Again.

So it could always be worse. We could be stuck in that level of hell.

I’m just glad to have a thread that isn’t about our own misery.

Here’s to enjoying the rest of the tournament. Go FGCU … Go Canes. Go Hilltoppers and lots of other likable underdogs still left.

The only silver lining to losing early is having tons of non-partisan games to drown one’s sorrows in. Still great viewing.

FGCU could easily make the Sweet Sixteen. And we will read about some 7-year old kid who picked them in his bracket. Good times.

That Miami loss doesn’t look so bad now and ironically cost them a #1 seed. Miami played like a 1 today.
I was also impressed how VCU bitch slapped the Zips.

Pretty wild. Until the December Miami loss (wow, are the Canes ever gonna suck, I confidently predicted), I had never even heard of Florida Gulf Coast. Now, they’ve played every 2 seed in the tourney, except for Ohio State (2-1 record).

The cameraman also lovingly focused on the new “Stephon Curry’s mom” – FGCU Coach Andy Enfield’s wife.

How about an appreciation thread for Amanda Marcum, the aforementioned coaches’ wife? 🙂

Watched the end of the FGC game, enjoyed it. Also noted that #4 KState and #5 Wisc bit the dust along with #2 G’Town. Fire all those coaches.

Well come on with it then, Hilltoppers. Ruin my hopes of Kansas putting an ass whipping on UNX.

It’s very weird not being able to wholeheartedly cheer for a 16 against a 1.

GW has been tourney fragile for the last few years, does this loss make our sweet sixteen triumph look weaker?

I meant GT not GW, and iphone safari doesn’t like to edit.

The mid majors are eating the mid to lower half “power” conferences lunch. Bobby Cremins and Dave Odom just threw up in their mouths a little.

A Sweet Sixteen speaks for itself. Don’t sweat it!

Our regional buddies from last year (San Diego State) looking pretty solid. Notre Dame looks worse than their uniforms. A dud from UCLA.

Time to sleep once KS gets some separation.

Can I say that Hairston is the real deal?

  14. JeremyH 03/22/2013 at 11:54 PM #

Actually we just got a taste of what UNC experienced last season; a “loaded” team that couldn’t pull it together for the expected deep run. Defense, depth, determination–damn you Dacich.

I’m sorry but I have no clue what you guys are talking about or what tournament it is that you are referencing.

There’s a tournament going on this weekend?

Two, in fact. The Fighten’ Sendeks went down in Waco tonight.

    Wait, that sounded vaguely dirty.

    “The Hoyas were surly, unsportsmanlike…”

I’m glad you noticed that. I was talking to a buddy earlier and told him how GT kept trying to thug it up and beat on them physically, but FGCU pretty much just laughed, got up off the floor, and then kept dunking on GT. I was loving it. And I enjoyed seeing how happy they were in the locker room after the game. Fun stuff.

Watching #6 UCLA get drilled right now by #11 Minnesota. Don’t really care about either team but I like watching the upset.

    ^^ 😀

Maybe there’s a glitch in the matrix and we’re all experiencing the same dream.

Gonna snap my fingers and it will be August 30th again, and all will be right with the world.

Careful Wuf. TOB would still be our fb coach back then. 😉

  20. Wufpacker 03/23/2013 at 12:27 AM #

    Kansas survives the Hilltoppers…dammit.

  21. Wufpacker 03/23/2013 at 12:29 AM #

^^ Well yeah, there is that.

    *sigh*

  22. MrPlywood 03/23/2013 at 12:44 AM #

UCLA lost their second leading scorer to injury during the game in their PAC12 semifinal. So Minn winning wasn’t really an upset IMO.

FGCU persevered through some of the worst home cooking imaginable. They put on a clinic in overcoming shitty, biased officiating.

  24. JeremyH 03/23/2013 at 1:11 AM #

I have to say our game today was bizarre and our guys have a way if panicking on offense. The hell.

Speaking of the tourney and upsets, I checked out the brackets for the 4 entries that are leading the ESPN Tourney Challenge game since they are tied with 300 points, meaning that they only missed 2 picks each. One guy, Lake Hornet 1, picked all the upsets except for Harvard and… Temple. And to top it off, he has State winning the whole thing. Must have been his “crazy” bracket….
