It’s always nice when good things happen to fellow Wolfpackers! Former NC State basketball player, Danny Strong has been named the new boys basketball coach at Fuquay-Varina High School. And, by the looks of things, there is nowhere to go but up!

Fuquay-Varina High School’s boys basketball team will have a familiar name sitting on the bench next season.

The Bengals have hired former NC State player Danny Strong as their next head boys basketball coach, athletic director James Mountford said Monday morning.

Strong played basketball at NC State from 1995 until 1997, averaging 12.4 points and 4.9 rebounds per game. Most recently he has played professional basketball overseas.

While playing professional basketball, Strong played for GET Vosges (France), Le Havre (France), Leon (Spain), Sidigas AV (Italy), Mad-Croc (Spain) and Gravelines (France).

In his last season, Strong averaged 10.3 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.0 assists.

This past season, Fuquay-Varina posted a 1-21 overall record, including a 1-15 mark in the Tri-9 4-A Conference. The Bengals failed to make the conference tournament and the state playoffs.

Fuquay-Varina will be a member of the new Southwest Wake Athletic Conference next season, which will be an eight-member league.

    One of my favorite memories of Danny Strong was in Carmichael gym after he graduated. He was there for a pickup basketball game. He was under the basket when people were shooting around before the game, and goofing off talking to some girls on the sideline. My friend I was there with shot an airball and it hit him in the face when he wasn’t looking, and Danny then stared him down like he was about to destroy him while everybody else was rolling on the court laughing.

    Danny was also one of the top HS FB players in SC…IIRC, Clempsum wanted him badly, but he wanted to play B-Ball.

    Strong can’t be as bad as that d’bag Bill Brown that was the former coach at FVHS….and he’s a Wolfpack alum!

    Welcome Coach Stong! My son playe at Fuquay, graduation in 1988. Had a pretty good team for a couple of years then. Glad you are at Fuquay and go Bengal Tigers!

    Hey wolfpack95 how about you actually know the person you are bashing before you make a comment. Bill Brown was and still is an excellent coach and a wonderful person who touches the lifes of children each day by teaching and coaching! Get a life and grow up 🙂 Congrats Danny Strong!
