ACC Tournament Live Blog (First Round – Afternoon Session)

I’m giving this a shot to see if I can bring some positive mojo to the Pack by undertaking the Live Blog duties today. If the Pack loses I promise to stay away from blogging any important games ever again. I’ll miss most of the first half of the BC/GT game but if no one watches a game does it make a sound?

Thursday’s Schedule:
No. 8 Boston College vs. No. 9 Georgia Tech, noon (Ga. Tech -2 vs. BC)
No. 5 N.C. State vs. No. 12 Virginia Tech, 2:30 p.m. (NC State -11 vs. Va. Tech)
No. 7 Maryland vs. No. 10 Wake Forest, 7 p.m. (Maryland -5.5 vs. Wake Forest)
No. 6 Florida State vs. No. 11 Clemson, 9:30 p.m. (FSU -2.5 vs. Clemson)

Game 1: GT/BC

Refs: Roger Ayers, Mike Eades, and Gary Maxwell.

1st Half

15:15 – 14-0 GT.

11:41 – 20-11 GT.

07:42 – 26-13 GT.

03:38 – 31-28 GT.

After spotting GT 15 points BC has been on a tear and they are led by the ACC ROTY Olivier Hanlan who has 21pts on 7-11 FG, 4-6 3FG.

Rebounding is an issue for both teams but more so for BC. They start grabbing more defensive rebounds and cut down on the turnovers and it’ll be a total blowout.

2nd Half

15:30 – 49-37 BC

11:46 – 56-43 BC

07:27 – 66-48 BC. BC 11-20 3FG (55%). Hanlan with 35pts 12-16 FG, 7-9 3FG & 4 Rbs.

03:14 – 77-57 BC. BC 13-23 3FG (56.5%). Hanlan has 38pts. Just 2pts shy of tying the ACCT Freshman scoring record.

Final 84-64 Boston College. Faces Miami tomorrow at Noon.

Hanlan finishes with 41pts and 5 rebounds. Breaks the ACC Tournament freshmen scoring record previously held by Harrison Barnes who had 40.

Only thing BC did wrong this game was defensive rebounding. When you win by 20 does anyone really care?

Game 2: NC State/VT (tip off approximately 2:28pm)

Refs: Kersey, Nestor, Heater

Pregame Note: Brown still has his thumb taped up.

1st Half

14:04 – 14-13 VT

10:52 – 20-19 Pack

07:36 – 24-23 Pack

03:09 – 34-27 Pack

Halftime – 38-32 Pack

Both teams are shooting well with low to moderate turnovers. The Pack is dominating the glass and that’s really helping. Don’t get me started on all the fouls that haven’t been called on VT, if they had been then we could have missed even more FT’s (Pack 7-12 FT).

Leading scorers:

VT:
Jarell Eddie 10pts
Erick Green 9pts

NCSU:
Richard Howell 14pts/3rbs
CJ Leslie 9pts/5rbs/3TO

2nd Half

15:55 – 46-38 Pack

11:09 – 59-47 Pack

VT:
Eddie: 17pts
Green: 11pts/4TO

Pack:
Howell: 20pts/6rbs
CJ/TJ: 11pts each
Wood: 10pts
Brown: 9 assists

07:26 – 63-49 Pack

03:50 – 72-55 Pack

Final 80-63

VT:
Eddie: 21pts (9-14 FG)
Green: 15pts (5-19 FG)

NCSU:
Howell: 22pts (11-13 fg), 12rbs
Leslie: 15pts, 7rbs
Wood: 13pts
Warren: 13pts
Brown: 9pts, 7rbs, 12ast, 2to

The Pack had and executed a great defensive gameplan on Green. VT just didn’t have enough without Green, who still got 15pts. Need to get rest and beat the Hoos tomorrow.

I’m predicting Calvin (yes Calvin will show) and Howell will be monsters during this tournament carry us to Sunday only to lose to tired legs… anybody with me?

  2. TheCOWDOG 03/14/2013 at 1:17 PM #

Hey, I’m a zone guy, but ya gotta’ know what your doin’ in it. State does not sustain a zone well at all.

What I tell ya ’bout Hanlan, Beej?

  3. BJD95 03/14/2013 at 1:18 PM #

Bet includes the big dance. So I just need a 1st round win and a S16.

But remember, I fully expect a Pack loss today. So I am really betting on midnight striking for VPI on Saturday.

You were right, cowdog. Kid looks amazing.

I have no doubt we would beat UVA tomorrow. So of course we will roll today and lose in the quarters. Cause that how my predictions roll.

I’m assuming no wufpacker yet because he flew to GBO to propose to Doris Burke.

  6. TheCOWDOG 03/14/2013 at 1:27 PM #

Wuf hasn’t left poolside since yesterday afternoon.

You seen the weather out there?

I feel good about our chances this weekend but better about NCAA with real refs.

  9. Rick 03/14/2013 at 1:28 PM #

the ACC live feed has crapped out

    the ACC of course sucks

  10. pakfanistan 03/14/2013 at 1:29 PM #

“That thing looks like a bucket to him right now.”

    *facepalm*

  11. Rick 03/14/2013 at 1:30 PM #

    I got ESPN to work

    I hate the ACC

” I feel good about our chances this weekend but better about NCAA with real refs. ”

Can someone tell me where ya’ can find one of those ?

I now watch each game guardedly optimistic. Four wins in four days with a very short bench would be nothing short of an absolute miracle, the likes which have not been seen except at Lourdes, France; Guadalupe, Mexico and Fatima, Portugal. Hell, even an unwashed heathen and back sliding heretic such as myself me start going back to church if that were to occur.

Gotta go know. Gotta get the ole mojo cooking. I have at least 1/2 hour of ritual things to do like getting a biscuit at Bojangles. Get my chair in the right place. Put my dog on the couch. Wash my state hat. Park my car in the right space. Got my rosary in one hand and my lucky 1983 NC STATE basketball in the other where I dribble during the game so that they can win. No more time to talk. It is all business.

Rick – you get better announcers now. Be grateful.

Illinois/Minny is close for channel flippers. BTN with Gus Johnson. Pure!

  15. Rick 03/14/2013 at 1:33 PM #

ESPN feed is much clearer and no earring guy

  16. BJD95 03/14/2013 at 1:34 PM #

I think the MWC refs are the best. Seriously. Their games flow. Watch their tourney.

  17. BJD95 03/14/2013 at 1:37 PM #

They just might wanna double the Quebecker. Just a thought.

  18. pakfanistan 03/14/2013 at 1:46 PM #

    A 30pt swing in this game…..

From down 14-0 to up 66-50.

And there’s still 6 minutes to go.

  19. TheCOWDOG 03/14/2013 at 1:46 PM #

Hell, Beej. Even if they went to a box ‘n one, they could trap.

At the very least they could try and deny him the ball out of it.

Makes ya wonder how U of St. Lawrence ever let him get away. Oui?

  20. 1.21 Jigawatts 03/14/2013 at 1:47 PM #

Hanlan can send it to me by Western Union. Hope I haven’t used up all the mojo on BC.

  21. pakfanistan 03/14/2013 at 1:48 PM #

I think GT might ride back home in a clown car.

How did this team beat Miami?

  22. Rochester 03/14/2013 at 1:49 PM #

Brian Gregory making Sidney Lowe look clueful today. What an absolute bed-crapping after BC spotted them 15 points.

Bad day to have “Tech” in your name.

  23. BJD95 03/14/2013 at 1:50 PM #

    Oui indeed.

Could you imagine playing HS against him? Quebec is chock full of honkies, and the best athletes all play hockey.

  24. Rochester 03/14/2013 at 1:52 PM #

Apparently BC hasn’t played with enough leads to know you don’t drive to the hoop one-on-two with 30 seconds left on the clock.

  25. 1.21 Jigawatts 03/14/2013 at 1:53 PM #

BC has given up 19 offensive rebounds to GT. Think of what this game would be like if they could rebound.
