ACC Tournament 2013 LiveBlog (Quarterfinal Edition – Evening Session)

Alrighty Pack fans, time to cheer against the blues tonight, not so much for anyone but definitely against.

Friday’s Schedule:
No. 8 Boston College vs. No. 1 Miami, noon (Miami -7.5 vs. BC)
No. 5 N.C. State vs. No. 4 Virginia, 2:30 p.m. (NC State -1 vs. Virginia)
No. 7 Maryland vs. No. 2 Duke, 7 p.m. (Duke -13 vs Maryland)
No. 6 Florida State vs. No. 3 North Carolina, 9:30 p.m. (UNC -8 vs. FSU)

Game 3: Twerps/Duke

Refs: Brian Dorsey, Les Jones, Roger Ayers

15:49 – 12-2 Twerps

11:47 – 17-10 Twerps

07:53 – 24-14 Twerps

03:01 – 28-21 Twerps

HALFTIME: 34-26 Twerps

Duke’s just getting beat at their own game, MD is hot from 3.

2nd Half

15:56 – 41-37 Twerps

11:51 – 50-46 Twerps

07:40 – 59-52 Twerps

03:26 – 69-62 Twerps

FINAL 83-74 Twerps

This one was pretty simple, Maryland guarded the 3 and prevented Duke from winning from behind the arc. That and Maryland hit their Free Throws and made their 3’s.

Game 4: FSU/UNC

Refs: King Karl, Maxwell, Styons

1st Half:

15:40 – 9-8 UNC

11:10 – 19-14 UNC

07:38 – 21-20 UNC

03:11 – 25-23 UNC

HALFTIME: 35-27 UNC

A tight game until the final 3 minutes when UNC made a mini-run. If FSU can cut down on the turnovers and defend the 3 better I think they can win.

2nd Half

14:58 – 49-35 UNC

11:55 – 57-43 UNC

07:57 – 67-50 UNC

04:13 – 74-57 UNC

FINAL: 83-62 UNC

Nothing to say about this one, the stats and eyeballs say it all. Everyone get some sleep and wake up by the crack of noon to get ready.

Does MD get a bid if they lose in the final? Discuss.

  2. vtpackfan 03/15/2013 at 10:01 PM #

Flops are like the Soccer players who fake injuries and writhe around on the grass. One deserves a T the other a Red Card.

@Wulfpack – You’re right about UMd having more of a bench than us but I figure that’s pretty much a constant with anyone we might face from this point on.

I was more referring to them playing from Thursday, having to work a bit harder than us (so far at least) to advance, and being in the evening session thus a bit less rest for them.

I see no way Donahue should be even close to being on the hot seat. I would argue that besides K, he may be the best coach in the league. He gets a lot out of very little.

Wicked jump stop by Snaer. Really a lost art in basketball.

  6. vtpackfan 03/15/2013 at 10:05 PM #

    King Karl on cue.

BJD, their RPI before today was 80….

    They’re now 3-5 against the top 50.

If they make the finals, they’ll be 4-5 (assuming they play Carolina).

I’ll go out on a limb and say yes.

  8. Wulfpack 03/15/2013 at 10:06 PM #

Donahue has done a fine job and the future is very bright in Chestnut Hill.

Maryland has had to work harder, but they are also very hungry. That counts for something.

It would depend on the other bubble-mates BJD, and obviously a win over UNC would much more impressive than FSU. If they were to beat UNC, you would have to think they’d be right there in the discussion.

If FSU could shoot, they’d be dangerous.

  10. vtpackfan 03/15/2013 at 10:08 PM #

FSU trying to run and turning into a TO machine. Way to play to your strengths Noles.

Iowa is in a very similar boat, and also winning tonight.

  12. Wulfpack 03/15/2013 at 10:12 PM #

We are basically a 7 man team with Purvis and Lewis off the bench. We don’t play Vandy unless it is an emergency, which I completely agree with. He is hardly even serviceable.

Honestly, I feel like the only factor that can derail us is foul trouble. That is where we are at a decided disadvantage. Keep Hess off the floor is all I’m saying. Whatever DY said to the ACC office worked…

I’d say yes for Maryland. Although their overall profile at that point may still be a ‘no’, the committee has historically greatly rewarded teams in a similar situation as Maryland who go on a run in their conference tourney.

Interestingly, Maryland lost to Kentucky 72-69 in Lexington way back in November. Two bubble-mates with the Cats garnering the head to head. Does it count? Who knows.

  16. BJD95 03/15/2013 at 10:16 PM #

    This is an awful game.

  17. wufpup76 03/15/2013 at 10:17 PM #

    Wow c’mon Miller.

  18. cWOhLFrPAiCKs 03/15/2013 at 10:20 PM #

That sure didn’t look like Derrick Whittenburg…

  19. MrPlywood 03/15/2013 at 10:21 PM #

I’d say yes to MD. UVA is only first team out at this point . Then again, ESPN still has AZSt on the bubble. Good lord.

  20. Wulfpack 03/15/2013 at 10:23 PM #

He doesn’t sound like it either. I heard him do a few games this year and he is quite possibly the worst out there. Not from an agenda/bias standpoint but just out of it.

By the way be sure to watch it Sunday night at 9. I have heard it is incredible. Can’t wait. Brackets then good tv.

  21. vtpackfan 03/15/2013 at 10:24 PM #

What a colossal fail by Amile’s Daddy. He might not see any meaningful pt at Duke unless for injuries. With Hood in the lineup he will be splitting time with Murphy for flop minutes.

  22. Wulfpack 03/15/2013 at 10:25 PM #

No to Both Maryland and UVA. Remember, Maryland lost the must win last week. Maryland needs other win, preferably over UNC.

  23. Wulfpack 03/15/2013 at 10:27 PM #

UNC pulling away. FSU has a JV offense. Ugly.

  24. MrPlywood 03/15/2013 at 10:28 PM #

^ The Q was if MD lost in the final, meaning they get another win tomorrow.

  25. BJD95 03/15/2013 at 10:28 PM #

Think UVA definitely out. MD only considered if they win tomorrow.
