Sidney Lowe, NC State’s former Head Basketball Coach and starting point guard on the 1983 National Championship team, has been arrested for failure to file state tax returns.
Good God I hope that this is the only former/current NC State coach that has had a run in with the law recently.
Sidney Lowe, former head men’s basketball coach at North Carolina State University, was arrested Monday for failure to file state tax returns for 2009, 2010 and 2011.
Lowe, who coached the Wolfpack from 2006-2011, is currently an assistant coach with the NBA’s Utah Jazz. At the time of his departure from State, he was making $500,000 per year.
He maintains a home in Wake Forest.
He faces three misdemeanor counts of willful failure to file a North Caroline Individual Income Tax Return and was placed under $10,000 bond. A court appearance was scheduled for March 19.
Lowe, a member of the 1983 national championship team at NC State, held an 86-78 overall career coaching record at his alma mater, including a 25-55 mark in the ACC. Lowe never topped the 20 wins mark and never earned more than six wins in the ACC or finished above ninth place in the league.
The ‘good’ news here is that we now know that the state government actually DOES have the ability to both investigate and arrest people that violate the law. This should be huge news to Elaine Marshall and her band of merry misfits at the Secretary of State’s office who seemingly can’t figure out how to proceed to arrest sports agents who have publicly admitted to breaking the law.
Lowe’s first court date is set for March 19th; coincidentally, the opening night of the NCAA Tournament’s “First Four” in Dayton, Ohio.
If you were following our message forums then you would’ve seen this news a little earlier than here on the blog.
Update: In other bad news today it is being reported that NC State starting fullback, Logan Winkles, has also been arrested. Maybe we are getting all of the bad news out at one time?
