Coaching Update (Wed 2:45PM)

Not a lot of new coaching updates today.

We know that the Board of Trustees has a scheduled conference call today at 4:30 PM to discuss parameters of an employment contract. And we know Louisiana Tech coach Sonny Dykes was “interviewing” for the job this morning (here), or perhaps even yesterday.

Another name SFN sources have confirmed as a candidate, and one being discussed on the SFN Forums, is 43-year old wunderkind Clemson Offensive Coordinator Chad Morris.

Only three years ago the Edgewood, TX native and Texas A&M alum was the head coach at Lake Travis (TX) high school, and in 2010 was the OC at Tulsa, but he has quickly become one of the hottest names in coaching because of the potent offense he runs at Clemson. And he’s been given, by some, much of the credit for Clemson’s recent success, which is why he’s the highest-paid assistant in college football ($1.3 million annually).

Chad Morris Biography (ClemsonTigers.com).

More to come.

If you guys (gals?) think WE are starved for info….I did some surfing and found a local sportscaster following the tweets of one of LA Tech’s premier recruits.

There is NO info about the Coaches (LA Tech assistants) tweeting them. Phone calls? Who knows…

    HALLELUJAH !!!

Dykes is NOT the best choice. 22-15 playing in the WAC. Really?

I trust Debbie will make the right choice. And perhaps already has, and just allowing the coach to meet with his team first, before the official announcement. Which would be classy, rather than the team finding out like everyone else.

any hire that does not include an interview with this man would be crazy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_MacIntyre#Coaching_careerview

I still think we are walking on the Sonny side of the street. Yow mentioned #1 candidate is still in play and I never heard that sort of reassurance during bball search ( especially when the Sean Miller pipe dream was full ablaze).

His offense would bring a much needed boost to the climate change we need post TOB and he has had a couple stints at recruiting in the SE while at UK. Anybody who follows our football recruiting lately has seen we’ve been more neck n neck with potential UK and Louisville prospects then we have been Clemson/FSU caliber and I don’t expect that to drasticly change no matter who we bag.

Keep in mind that we narrowly bear out UK for Shadrach Thorton and I for one don’t believe we even go Bowling this season without his outstanding freshman services. I like in the comeback clip of the LaTech vs A&M game that Dykes isn’t afraid to pound the ball between the Tackles, especially in the “Pistol” formation. Heck, we already have an ex WAC QB ready for the Pistol Pete monicker waiting in the wings 🙂

    Mike MacIntyre…???

    16-21 overall
    8-13 Conference

Sure his overall record is bad, but look at the progess during his tenture.

    2010 1–12 0–8
    2011 5–7 3–4
    2012 10–2 5–1

I’ll be paying close attention to MAC. The NiU coach sounds like a good fit on both personality and success rate fronts (record and graduation rate)
