State opens +13.5 vs FSU

OUCH! Not a whole lotta respect for the home team this week. To be fair, we don’t deserve a lot of respect.

The good news is that Carter-Finley Stadium has served us relatively well in the recent series against the Seminoles. NC State has won four of the last seven games played in Raleigh.

2010 – NC State wins 28-24

2008 – FSU (comeback in 4th Qtr) to win 26-17

2006 – NC State wins 24-20

2004 – FSU wins 17-10

2002 – NC State wins 17-7 in a game where I still think their QB was gambling and had point shaved.

2000 – FSU wins ugly! Worst loss in Chuck Amato era by a mile.

1998 – NC State wins 24-7 over #2 FSU to give the Seminoles only their second loss in the history of the ACC.

This actually feels more like last year to me…recall we played a terrible game against a beatable UC team in Cincy and we came home to play a rolling GT squad. We played with heart and fervor but GT ended up winning as we didn’t have the horses to compete for 4 quarters…

I feel like this team will come out swinging against FSU early…get behind by a couple of scores mid-way, make one last push and lose…FSU 34-24 (I know optimistic)

    ^Agree.

    This crap isn’t linear superposition.

We’ll come out mad and a little radical… may even let the fullback get a carry. If we get a few bounces early, we could be in it for a while.

I got us down for 3 field goals and that’s it. I got Fla. State scoring two defensive touchdowns and 4 offensive touchdowns, and no need to bother with field goals. 42 to 9

Key is can we run. Successful state teams that beat FSU run the ball. So if that is the key, look for Bible to come out in a full spread, no huddle, no running back set in the first quarter.

Put me 10 bills on FSU to cover.

  6. packalum44 10/01/2012 at 6:43 PM #

“????? Packalum44, did you graduate from State in 1944? That would make you about 90 years old and would explain a lot.”

LOL. No silly, 44 is the number of pieces of wood that TOB is going to chop this week. Wheeeeewwwwwweeeeee.

Chopping all day and night going to be successful. We can compete with ANYONE in the country. That’s what chopping wood does.

Lindy’s Sports preseason magazine has ranked State’s secondary as the second-best in the country.

“We can be the best [secondary] in the nation due to the experience we have back there, the playmakers, the athleticism,” Wolff said. “We can contain anybody we play against.”

  7. Wufpacker 10/01/2012 at 6:58 PM #

If we can avoid turnovers we might hang for a while. Still, best case scenario I think we might barely beat the spread. Much more likely in my mind is a -3 or more in TO margin and a 3-4 TD beating at home in prime time.

And yes, that 2000 game was ugly no doubt. But it doesn’t even compare to MOC’s worst beating at the hands of the ‘Noles…77-17 (’95 I believe that was).

Geez. C’mon folks. Quit with the “Dey terk err jahbs” whining. The Miami game’s over. Let it go.

Be glad the team held a meeting on Sunday that basically said now’s the time to nut up or shut up.

Is FSU more athletic? Yes. Is FSU highly ranked? Yes. Is FSU a well coached team? Yes, though Fisher is know to be ultra-conservative. Should NCSU just run out of the tunnel and wave a white flag? HELL NO! GO WOLFPACK!

As poorly as our OLine played against UT, UCONN, and USA, I just don’t see us being able to get any momentum against FSU. We better have a really good game plan to take away their pass rush and I just don’t see that happening.

Well, they did take our jobs.

    Terk r gerbbbbs.

    WufPacker,

You get the cigar. It took a little research, but YES….

    In 1994, we were 9 – 3 – 0 and Won the Peach Bowl (Mississippi State 28 – 24)

    The NEXT year we were 3 – 8 – 0. This included a 77 -17 LOSS to FSU.

Here is the link to the NCSU scores. You can also find almost any school there. NOW, I do NOT vouch for the accuracy, but the data matches your memory.

SO…..my hat’s off to you for that bit of trivia.

  12. MattN 10/01/2012 at 8:10 PM #

Wait. Is this the over/under on the number of times Amerson gets torched?

  13. mak4dpak 10/01/2012 at 8:27 PM #

I will be optimistically crazy and say, if we have no turnovers, stupid offsides miscues, the secondary shows up, and we can open up the offense, we can win. At least I will be there to do my part, whether it happens or not. Maybe this Saturday will be their day to have all the turnovers we had against Miami. Go Pack!

  14. Pack1998 10/01/2012 at 8:30 PM #

    We’ll make it interesting.

We have some good Seniors that will play inspired. Our QB is dangerous. And TOB, if he has energy and focus, can actually get a team prepared. TOBs big problem is he doesn’t have the energy to micro-manage, which he needs to do more than he wants to do.

TOBs job and legacy are on the line this year, and it starts with this game. If he lays an egg on national television he is done, even if he wins 7 or 8 for the season.

  15. TeufelWolf 10/01/2012 at 8:36 PM #

We should go ahead and wear pink this Saturday…for breast cancer awareness of course.

  16. JEOH2 10/01/2012 at 8:43 PM #

If he wins 8 regular season games even after losing to FSU…that means he went 5-1 for the second half of the season…would be a 5-3 ACC record, probably good for third (maybe 2nd) in the Atlantic Division…likely one of those wins would be against UNC…soooo…

how could anyone figure he’d still be gone after that?

  17. TeufelWolf 10/01/2012 at 8:53 PM #

He’ll be gone because the money is going to stop coming in as long as he’s here. Fans shouldn’t need ‘lifetime rights’ to see this type if product. The excitement or TOB is gone, the excitement for change is here.

“2000 – FSU wins ugly! Worst loss in Chuck Amato era by a mile.”

Huh?!? What?!? You mean to FSU? That’s not even close to gt, uva, or md in 02.

  19. lush 10/01/2012 at 9:07 PM #

I guess maybe by points, but those 3 losses after starting 9-0 were way worse for me.

  20. john of sparta 10/01/2012 at 9:14 PM #

an unlikely score? 51 to 11.
    or something like that.

  21. Wufpacker 10/01/2012 at 9:24 PM #

    @lush,
Definitely have to agree that those 3 hurt more considering what was at stake and how uninspired we looked. Talk about your penthouse to outhouse in a NY minute type of thing….sheeesh.

  22. packer74 10/01/2012 at 9:41 PM #

We might keep it interesting for the first half. Too many better athletes for them. Seminoles 38. Pack 17. Followed by a year filled with trash talk from my FSU grad youngest brother.

  23. mak4dpak 10/01/2012 at 10:03 PM #

Also a Cowboys fan, and feel like I am watching the game from Saturday all over, against the bears.

  24. mrwufabc 10/02/2012 at 12:44 AM #

I sure hope we run the ball. We need to run and run and run some more. We also don’t need to snap the ball with more than 5 seconds on the play clock. Shorten this game any way we can.

Nothing about this year has been a surprise. I called out Amerson as the fraud he is well before this season began. Bible has no imagination, TOB has no ability to recruit, and Glennon my friends…. is no leader.

  25. NCSU Whammer 10/02/2012 at 8:06 AM #

I say lets just go tailgate and drink our drinks like we normally do. Have a good time with our friends, not expect anything and just let things unravel. If we get our butts handed to us hey we didn’t expect anything but if we perform a miracle then hey we see a great game and hopefully a wolfpack win.
