State down three starting offensive linemen for FSU

The NC State injury news just took an awful turn as it has been announced that starting offensive guard, Zach Allen is out for the season with a foot injury that will require surgery.

Allen joins defensive tackle, Jacob Kahut (knee) and linebacker Michael Peek (knee) as players that are out for the entire season.

For Florida State however, State’s offense will also be missing three other starters, including two key offensive linemen – Robert Crisp and Andrew Wallace.

Make no mistake about the significance of these injuries on NC State’s football program – not just this one game. Coach Tom O’Brien’s seat is getting hotter by the week, and the fact that his program does not appear to contain enough talented depth to help weather injuries does not bode necessarily well for a bright future.

Our fans recognize the strength of visiting Florida State to the point of having a great conversation analyzing the Seminoles’ National Championship hopes.

I’m not going to wade too deep into the discussion on whether or not to let O’Brien go. However, I do want to make a very crucial correction:

O’BRIEN IS UNDER CONTRACT UNTIL 2015, NOT 2013. To be specific, under an addendum to his original contract, he received an extension on 7/29/2009 that added an additional 2 years, extending his contract term until 12/7/2015. You can read the addendum in full at this link:

I hope that crucial point helps both sides as they consider this discussion. As for myself, I’m on the fence. I was madder than hell at the Miami debacle, and coming after the big letdown that was “Volmageddon,” I must say I expected more in O’Brien’s 6th year. That said, the season still has a way to go, and O’Brien could still turn things around. Plus, for the first time in ages, I have complete faith in our AD to make the correct call as to whether to make a change, and more importantly, if a change needs to be made, picking the right new coach.

My bad, Fuquay. I thought TOB’s contract ended in 2013. Now that it ends in 2015, I’m rather certain TOB will not be fired at the end of this season.

Is there a stipulation in O’Brien’s contract that gives him to get incentives for winning big games on ESPN?

I know he gets them for going to bowls and other little caveats like that, but maybe Incentivizing higher rates recruiting classes and/or winning big games on national TV should be added in

Agree with a earlier comment, the “veteran” lineman were not getting done so why not let some younger hopefully “hungry” talent get in the game. Problem is, just as in the past, old TOB we just have ANOTHER excuse of why……….Passion and “want to” begins at the top and the coaches definitely don’t have it and neither do the players.
