NC State picked as ACC preseason favorite

Expectations getting high but rightfully so in my opinion. I feel NCSU has the best guard, forward and shooter in the conference. The ACC coaches feel the same way.

Full story here

With four starters back and three McDonald’s All-Americans added to the mix, N.C. State is getting the most offseason buzz of any ACC team heading into this year.

Leslie, who averaged 14.7 points and 7.3 rebounds last season, playing his best basketball toward the end of the year, is the coaches’ preseason player of the year pick, and Purvis earned preseason rookie of the year recognition.

Brown, Leslie, Duke forward Mason Plumlee, UNC forward James Michael McAdoo and Florida State guard Michael Snaer make up the coaches’ preseason All-ACC team.

    Let the head games begin!

State will probably be media’s #1 as well. While I believe State has the best starting 5, I’m still a bit cautious. My top 6: Duke, State, UNC, FSU, Miami, Maryland. State’s gotta prove it’s the best.

All this attention is great and the potential is there for a great season, but let’s not get too carried away with this.

We really don’t know how to act in this position. Its like the dog that chases the car and finally catches it. Does he start driving it? The holes and devils have it all the time and just shrug it off. No team is going to lay down.

    SHOWTIME!

“Its like the dog that chases the car and finally catches it. Does he start driving it?”

If said car belongs to Carolina or Duke, fine with me if he just takes a dump in the driver’s seat.

No matter what happens, it should be a much more fun season to behold at the the very least.

This is not 1973 or 1974…Show me! Been asking that for a long time…

“Its like the dog that chases his tail and finally catches it. Does he start driving it?”

It’s funny what the mind does, I spent a couple of minutes trying to figure out how a dog would drive his tail.

Its a sad dog that won’t wag his on tail, much less catch it.

I expect bumps in the road. I just hope that the bumps are in the early part of the season, even if it means that we don’t win the ACC.

But more than anything I wan to see this team peak late and KICK a$$ in the ncaa.

But, as a “fallback’, I’ll take an ACC championship, either reg. season or acc tourney. teehee

What an unbelievable turn of fortune for ncsu bball! Gott is really looking like our Moses!

So, TLeo – are you talkin to the guys on this site or the 8 ACC Coaches who vote us #1. I don’t get why everybody here is so dadgum sure we’re going to crap our pants. What is wrong with saying we have a hell of a team and we’re probably better than anyone else in the league? If you’re afraid of being embarrased because you might be wrong, you’re still anonymous on this board. LOL at all the pansies…

Excuse me. I believe I’m in the wrong universe. Could somebody show me the way back home?

This season, either stay on the porch or ride in the back of the dog’s truck.

I like it! I like it alot!!!

    Love it.

My only concern is depth if we lose a top guy for more than a few games.

“My only concern is depth if we lose a top guy for more than a few games.”

Every team has that concern now. The days of being ten deep are gone.

We are a team that only returns four players from a seven man rotation. Granted, two of those guys are All ACC caliber players, but we are dependent on at least two freshmen. That clearly makes us a somewhat risky pick. It is wonderful to have achieved pre-season relevance but that is just the first step towards real relevance

Gott will do a good job of preventing the team from getting too full of themselves too early and having Lorenzo Brown on the court with a full year of running the offense under his belt will be worth at least three extra wins over the course of the season. Glad Lewis will get a year to watch, learn and spell Lo.

I wish I could capture all of these comments and replay them in March. The fact is, no one really knows what the season will hold. Case in point: As a student in 83′, we had pool-picks in September within my coed fraternity. A few females in the fraternity who did not really keep up with college athletics picked State to win the NCAA title. Us guys, who knew “everything” about sports, laughed (literally) at these females. I guess we all know who had the last laugh (and pool money).

The comments will be there in March. Just bookmark the article and come back then.

I’m pumped but back to the old one game at a time. This is not Herbie’s Wolfpack, nor even Lowe’s charges. The current staff could well be the difference. Not predicting anything (seen too much for that) but if this is the ride I’ll take shotgun with the dog in the truck.
