How Do You Spell Ugly?

I dunno…but I definitely just saw it.

That said, I will very gladly take the win. Looking at the big picture, we played poorly two weeks in a row. On the road, against credible D-1 opponents. To emerge from that 1-1 is a very positive outcome.

That said again…NC State has tons of work to do if it wants to compete even in the ACC Atlantic Division this year. Clemson and Florida State would destroy last weekend’s Wolfpack – or today’s. The comic ineptitude of the rest of the schedule almost ensures a bowl bid…but this season needs to be about more than that. If not now, when? And we will be forced to ponder that awful “when?” line of questioning unless NC State gets a lot better by October 6.

Get better, Earl Wolff. We would be 0-2 without you.

Settle down, Mike Glennon. Even factoring in the inconsistent OL play, you get no better than a C-minus so far in your senior campaign.

One last word – I still think it was smart to stay conservative on offense down the stretch. I think we were much more likely to shoot ourselves in the foot (especially against the wind) than deliver the kill shot. I certainly don’t like having to play that way, and we can’t get away with such down the road.

It certainly was ugly, and not enjoyable to watch at all. This another one of those typical TOB slogs in New England. We never seem to play well in these types of games.

Hopefully we can get healthy, work out some kinks, and gain some confidence playing the Little Sisters of the Blind the next two weeks.

A win is a win, and if making a bowl is the barometer for success, then we will be fine. But this was supposed to be the year. It is early, but I am not at all seeing it. Very disappointing to come out the way we did today after UT handed us our collective backsides. So much work to do. Cream puff opponents should do the trick, but right now we are pretenders.

calling a spade a wind here, but this charade will just continue untill TOB is gone.

So sick of the offensive playcalling, where is your mind Glennon? Is you scared? Read the book “Feel the fear and do it anyway”. Same with you Dana Bible, jesus man, throw the ball like its part of the wind!

  4. Wufpacker 09/08/2012 at 4:23 PM #

Agreed that getting the win is always a good thing, but this might be the worst I’ve ever felt about an NCSU road win in any sport ever.

    Beyond that….no comment.

I never knew drinking beer at noon could be so boring. Glad we came away with the win, but the only time I got mildly excited during this game was holding them in the 4th quarter so we didn’t get the L.

    Anyway, let’s go Deacs!!

    In 15 words or less:
If we were to play today, we would get tattooed by the baby blue.

BJD95, does thinking of Uconn as “credible D-1 opponent” actually make you feel better? What you really should have written about is Dana Bible’s pathetic attempt at play calling today (and in general). Until at least he, and possibly TOB, are gone we are destined for being satisfied with beating only Carolina and Big East teams, going 7-5 during the regular season, and playing in some pre-New Year’s Day bowl that NO ONE cares about.

If we had played terribly on defense but won 45-41, would everyone be making these comments? Just throwing that out there.

I was not able to see the game today but I did hear some of the post game on the radio. Glennon was sacked how many times…6 was it? That just totally sux and apparently so does the O-line. How much effect did the bad weather have on Bible’s play calling? Was he being conservative because of it or just the same old predictable plays?

  10. Wufpacker 09/08/2012 at 5:18 PM #

    ^^ Valid point.

  11. DLW369 09/08/2012 at 5:25 PM #

I saw it – it was the same old predictable plays.

  12. tuckerdorm1983 09/08/2012 at 5:27 PM #

As I look across the schedule there is no game we should really win after the next two. If we play like we played today we could lose a lot of games. I am not going to say the unthinkable, but you know what I am thinking and what team I am thinking about when I say “no game we should really win after the next two”. Yikes!!!! Watching them right now and hoping they were going to look bad. However, the look pretty decent.

Hard to concentrate on the game when you are in a driving rain storm and your “ride” is a 41 ft motorhome with a Hummer tied on the back. BUT, I slowed down and listened. It was DEFINITELY not pretty, but we also did not give up and show are posteriors. Defense seemed to come back some….had some lapses, but generally held our own. OL needs to be worked on. Glennon seemed tentative and after getting mauled and grabbed and whatever (and not even kissed or getting a dinner and a movie before he was assaulted), his stats were not that bad. 204 Yds in a 15 Comps of 30 attempts. I don’t guess that his completion to TOB counted. BUT he did show some cool.

Next week will NOT be a real test….or it ought NOT to be….

    Blues NOT happy with WF….

But this was supposed to be the year.

    For what?

  15. choppack1 09/08/2012 at 5:30 PM #

Wulfpacker – why would you think this would be “the year”. We lost our entire linebacker core. We returned an OL who hasn’t proven they can consistently open up holes for our RBs.

Like BJD95 wrote – 1-1 against 2 BCS conference teams with no home games is an acceptable outcome, and probably better than par for the history of NC State football.

Here’s what I wrote on the other post:

This is Tom O’Brien football….and unfortunately, for NC State, TOB football is the best football we’ve had since Dick Sheridan football.

Hey, this coach had a pretty extensive record at BC. It was obvious what would happen.

I wanted Paul Johnson too – but, if you think TOB’s recruiting is bad, try finding 22 guys who want to play the wishbone.

If TOB can replicate what he did at BC – it will be a much needed stepping stone for this program. And the truth is that things won’t change much for NC State until we start bringing in 65K fans or more year. And, of course, we’ve designed our stadium in such a way that this kind of expansion will be next to impossible without gutting the entire stadium.

    @tuckerdorm1983,
With all due respect, beating Carolina should be the last thing we’re worried about right now.

  17. Wufpacker 09/08/2012 at 5:36 PM #

    @choppack1,
Not sure what you’re referring to there. I didn’t say any of that.

EDIT – I see now, never mind. User ID scramble apparently.

  18. tuckerdorm1983 09/08/2012 at 5:38 PM #

I was asked to choose. We would go 11-1 but lose to the holes by 50 or if we would go 1-11 and beat the heels but 100. I really am undecided and leaning toward 1-11. Sorry, hate them hate them hate them

  19. LRM 09/08/2012 at 5:48 PM #

The way Miami looked, we realistically should could be 4-1 when FSU comes to town. We’ve got two weeks to improve before hitting the road for the ACC opener.

  20. TheCOWDOG 09/08/2012 at 5:52 PM #

A good level take, there BJD.

    Work to be done.

  21. sequoyah 09/08/2012 at 5:54 PM #

a road win in crappy conditions – I will take it.

    Two things:
    1. Running game: No one runs well vs. UCONN . They gave up 86 yds/game last year.
    2. Passing game: All evidence shows that Glennon is a slow starter – he looked jittery as hell the first half of last year, too. If he can settle down and find his groove, he’ll be a top ranked QB going into NFL draft.

    We will be fine.

  22. Wufpacker 09/08/2012 at 5:54 PM #

    @tucker,
I hate ’em too, believe me. But we got a lot of things to fix before we even approach the territory of worrying about beating them, or anyone else not named South Alabama.

  23. wolffpride 09/08/2012 at 6:03 PM #

Wow you guys are nothing but a bunch of cry babies. Oh boo hoo, we didn’t start the season the way we wanted, here’s an idea: let’s start throwing TOB and the staff under the bus. Just like we do at the start of every year. When he delivers a 9 or 10 win season, just do us real fans all a favor and shut up. I swear we are the bitchiest fan base

  24. Wufpacker 09/08/2012 at 6:07 PM #

Don’t pull a muscle patting yourself on the back there, superfan.

It never ceases to amaze me how many fans equate valid criticism to bad fandom. And be careful tossing that “us real fans” mentality around, jackass. I suspect most of the folks on this thread have done as much or more to further NCSU athletics as you have.

  25. Old MacDonald 09/08/2012 at 6:10 PM #

Have to agree. We win on the road and only talk about how much we suck. Whatever.
