Weekend Hoops Open Thread – Murray State delivers

4:10pm Update
Murray State was unimpressive, but they eeked out a 2 point win over Tennessee State that insured that the Ohio Valley Conference will only receive NCAA Tournament bid.

Original Entry
First order of business – congrats to former Pack assistant Eddie Biedenbach, as he takes UNC-A to a second straight NCAAT.

We can also track bubble and Pack resume related games. So far, one bad thing has happened (UConn over Pitt). The asshole Huskies have a good enough RPI that they are likely in for sure now (and ESPN’s lackeys are already spouting excuses about poor wittle Calhoun’s back). WVU beat South Florida, which is probably neutral (unless you’re WV Wolf).

Very big games this afternoon, especially Northwestern at Iowa at 2:30. I can’t cheer against a team that has NEVER made the field, but the Mildcats really need a W. Also the Ohio Valley final – Murray State would get an at-large bid if they lose.

Even though Miami is also battling for a bid…the Pack really needs them to win. Our worst resume line is record against the Top 50. Miami getting to T50 status makes that much, much better.

As far as the jayhawk, I guess I never really looked at him that closely before. In fact, I never noticed that he seems to have longish red hair slicked back and flowing. Between that and the shoes I never noticed before, he seems very….flamboyant. Kinda makes you wonder what he’s doing with the rock and where he keeps the chalk.

Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

Nice little game b/w the Dons and the Gaels. Stupid T on the Dons’ coach, though.

Lunardi now has us as last 4 out. It’s real close. I’m telling ya we beat Va tech and win Friday and I think we have a very good chance.

Entertaining game b/t Dons and Gaels. Ready for our big game tomorrow.

^^ I kept expecting the graphic to change thinking it was a mistake, but it never did. Not sure Lunardi’s on target with this one but I hope he’s right.

Wufpacker- just look at the numbers. Right now we are 59 or 60 in rpi. Right now, The teams in front of us come from 19 different conferences…this leaves potentially spots for the top 56 or 57 teams.

I agree that if things fall our way, the road win against VT probably makes for only needing one in the ACCT, but as things stand right now (as I thought most of the bracketologonomicists looked at things) I think we’re in the next four out rather than the first four. Not really arguing with you, just nitpicking with Lunardi.

FWIW, the dance card has us back in comfortably after the Miami win and before any of today’s games. Miami, conversely, is their first left out after the bubble bursts.

Much of what happens to us is in our own hands and has been this entire year. The lose to GT and Clemson are looming large on our tournament hopes. If we do not deliver today it won’t matter what happens outside of the ACC, we will be NIT bound, unless we win the ACC tournament.

    Graywolf- you are correct.

Wufpacker- I think the dance card is using the old rpi formula. As I mentioned in another thread our old rpi is top 40 or so.

Ruh roh, Illinois State closes on 8-0 run and leads Creighton by 1 at the half.

CBS’ broadcast also pegged our RPI at 64, which just adds to the bad news.
