Sunday Night Hoops

Sadly, the Holes have found their stride and will blow past Creighton. But we can still scout Kansas and Purdue for next Friday, and enjoy a few other nontraditional matchups – such as South Florida and Ohio vying for the right to square off against Carolina. Norfolk State is cooked, but perhaps Lehigh can squeeze by Xavier and keep a true underdog alive past the first weekend.

I’ve been watching some of Ohio/USF and I just don’t think either has what it takes to beat the Heels.

Lehigh/Xavier could be interesting. Kind of want Lehigh as the loan major underdog remaining.

And Cincy/FSU is going to be a brawl. Hope the Noles can pull it off for ACC bragging rights.

I will be watching Kansas/Purdue with a very careful eye. I fully expect the Jayhawks to prevail, but will be looking for chinks in the armor.

The FL/Norfolk State game is crushing. Florida beat Virginia 71-45 and is up by 27 now. No one is talking about them. Weird.

I was worried about Kansas but then I noticed they’re a 2 seed and Georgetown was a 3 seed. What difference will one seed make if Kansas finishes Purdue?

I hope we face Kansas and can segue that into a home-and-home against them in the next year or so like they were talking about.

Kansas could have easily been a #1 had they not lost in their conference tourney.

I had Florida in the Final Four in one bracket. Still wouldn’t save it, but would save just a little pride!

Florida could end up being very interesting. They are similar to Michigan State, in that they are most dangerous when under the radar.

As long as State keeps winning I’m doing tooth pick replicas (1:87 scale) of the famous Raleigh landmarks.

    Last week it was Sadlacks.

Today it was the stairs at Mitch’s.

Next week the interior of The Keg.

I can’t quite take Florida all too sersiously yet as they have had a very easy road. UVA and Norfolk State – probably not even the best teams in the Commonwealth.

^I have seen the inside of a keg. We used to remove the ring and cylinder, wash it out and make a liquor keg. Everyone still talks about those liquor kegs a decade later, haha.

PM me if anyone wants the secret recipe

I haven’t seen Kansas play that often, but some of the analysts were comparing them to Duke, as teams that didn’t have the typical 1/2 talent and may have already played to their max potential. So that gives me some hope against the Jayhawks.

Purdue isn’t very good, I was quite surprised that they beat St. Mary’s. The Boilers are similar to us culturally, so it would be cool to play them in the Sweet Sixteen (wow, it’s still weird to say that).

Man, the heels have an easy draw. I hope south Florida plays them. I think they will play dirty and physical enough to at least wear down the heels for the next round.

I think that UNC’s best chance to lose before the final four will be if we make it to the elite eight, which is really strange. I would love to beat them, but would HATE to lose to them again. Four times in one season is too many.

My bad, I thought you were making a toothpick replica of the inside of a keg. Its been a long, but fun weekend

Virginia is still not a team that’s easy to blow out. Did it happen to them all year? And from what I saw Friday, Norfolk had some talented pieces. Mizzou wasn’t awful, Norfolk was just better.

Ohio/USF has been surprisingly watchable. Good energy, just bad shooting.

Creighton’s actually a very good team. Carolina dismantling them is an ominous sign. But they do get a break in the next round. Though they struggled with Virginia, a similar “mudder” team to USF.

Tried to watch some of the UNC-CH game, but couldn’t stomach it. Can you imagine what would happen if Howell were to conduct himself the way Henson does?

Would be funny if Lehigh got absolutely destroyed just to further accentuate how bad of a loss that was for Duke, Cincinnati-Florida State should be interesting and I actually hope we get Kansas.

  16. Wulfpack 03/18/2012 at 7:28 PM #

If it’s between us and Kansas, it would be interesting to know who Roy honestly would prefer to play. He’s owned us, but we’re playing balls to the wall. We all know the Kansas history.

My daughter and son-in-law both attended KU (although they graduated elsewhere) and, with my grandkids, are BIG KU fans. This could be really fun!

apparently kendall marshall broke his wrist?

  19. Wulfpack 03/18/2012 at 7:35 PM #

UPDATE: Kendall Marshall broke his right wrist at the end of today’s game. Huge.

  20. TheAliasTroll 03/18/2012 at 7:35 PM #

    Kendall Marshall fractured wrist.

    Go Purdue.

  21. Lunatic Fringe 03/18/2012 at 7:36 PM #

Twitter is alive with talk of fracture to right wrist for Marshall.

  22. Wulfpack 03/18/2012 at 7:38 PM #

Nantz and Kellogg just reported it as they are in Greensboro. Major development.

  23. pakfanistan 03/18/2012 at 7:38 PM #

Any truth to this Kendall Marshall broken wrist rumor?

  24. beeeejay 03/18/2012 at 7:39 PM #

Kenny Smith cannot even form sentences after this news

  25. BJD95 03/18/2012 at 7:41 PM #

Oh wow. So if we beat Kansas…it might be USF waiting in the final! Major blow, much worse than the Henson injury. They have no semi-competent backup PG.
