Shew!! NC State downs NCAA bound Virginia

Tim Brando just tweeted

NCST should be in the NCAAs! This one should get them in.

After the Wolfpack’s win today, CBSSports.com’s front page showed the following:

CBS’ Eye on Basketball blog had this:

Heading into the ACC tournament, it looked like two wins might get it done for the Wolfpack. After their win over Virginia in the quarterfinals, have they done enough to get a bid? NC State now has at least two top-50 wins, as Texas rose into that category with its win over Iowa State. A two-game sweep of Miami (Fl.) also helps. Throw in the fact the Wolfpack are 9-5 away from home – including 4-1 on neutral courts – and one can make the case for them. On the negative side are two sub-100 losses and the 2-8 record against the top 50. An upset win over North Carolina would certainly lock up a bid, but this one might do it.

Now that the game is over and I can breathe again, I have to say that Mike Scott is fun to watch. Best midrange jumpshooter I’ve seen in a long time, in an age when the midrange jump shot is not appreciated.

it is happy drinking time not angry drinking. i think we will play really well tomorrow(probably lose). today was the sphincter game…punchers chance tomorrow. let’s go!

  3. tuckerdorm1983 03/09/2012 at 5:49 PM #

I think we got our ticket punched, but tomorrow either we have to play our best most perfect game or they have to play crappy or both. Since Roy doesn’t think much of this lesser tournament, he may be inclined to hold out Henson until the “real” tournament starts. If Henson doesn’t play, then give the ball to CJL and get Zeller in foul trouble. Go at him at every chance.

Hope State benefits from the “anybody but Carolina” crowd support tomorrow…

We’re playing with house money now, boys! Let’s go get them Holes!

  8. wolfpack_83 03/09/2012 at 5:56 PM #

Wow, when is the last time we spoke about composure, “finishing” and confidence in a winning game? I’m extremely proud of these guys, especially considering where they were only 12 months ago. Congratulations to the players and staff, and kick some butt tomorrow!!

playing with house money now is right.

Best and biggest win in years. Damn, this is nice. The weather outside is great and the beer tastes even better.

The guys on espn were saying post game we are in now with this win couipled with the sos. Hope they are right….congrats to the team for the win today!
I loved Gottfried’s post game comments about how the team has fought back and is developing the toughness he wants from them.

You people saying we are in and are now using house money, ummmm Seth Greenburg says Hi

  13. BJD95 03/09/2012 at 6:10 PM #

House money. We’ve made it to the First Four (at least) and haven’t even played our best yet. But we are playing with the maximum amount of HEART, which is why I love this team so much. Especially Calvin. Heart of a lion out there.

    Wasn’t this Gott’s 300th win? I thought I read that somewhere today.

  15. BureauOfMines 03/09/2012 at 6:12 PM #

    I like our chances.

  16. tractor57 03/09/2012 at 6:16 PM #

I like our chances as well but I’m not quite ready to call it a done deal.

  17. Texpack 03/09/2012 at 6:17 PM #

I spent all of last season wondering who in the heck thought CJ Leslie was a marquee talent. I have spent the last four weeks understanding the hype surrounding Calvin a lot more. I would like to see a DNA test for absolute confirmation that they are the same person.

Did that game feel like old-school ACC Tournament to anyone? ‘Cause it did to me.

  19. TheAliasTroll 03/09/2012 at 6:21 PM #

Just now starting to become real to me that we play UNC tomorrow.

Hell, win two more and we can hang a banner.

  20. Gene 03/09/2012 at 6:22 PM #

“Since Roy doesn’t think much of this lesser tournament”

Roy’s old fashioned. He remembers when UNC’s biggest rival was NCSU. If there’s one team in the ACC he wants to beat, it is us not Duke.

If Henson can breath, Roy will make sure he plays against us.

What worries me is Kendall Marshal went 3-4 from 3 pt. range and 5-9 from the field. He killed us in Raleigh, so I don’t know how you defend Zeller and Henson, if you can’t double team off of Marshall.

Anyway, lets hope the adage of beating a team 3 times in one year holds for us and we upset UNC.

  21. Tuffy2 03/09/2012 at 6:22 PM #

Lutz is the what makes this thing work and Gott new what he was doing to surround himself with this staff.

I mean massaging LB shoulders and then high five it with a smile for confidence! WOW!

Howell played hard today also but I sure wish he would not put the ball on the floor before he goes up.

  22. Tuffy2 03/09/2012 at 6:25 PM #

That game did feel like old school ACCT Wulpup76.

  23. JSRy2k 03/09/2012 at 6:26 PM #

Anyone see the postgame presser where Calvin gave Gott credit for working with him and keeping his head in the right place this year?

BJD, you mentioned HEART, and I can tell you from the presser that Gott has Calvin’s heart. I think that’s a key to coaching, that if you can capture your players’ hearts then you’ll seem them play with heart.

My hat’s off to Gott, his staff, the team, and Yow for seeing gold where we didn’t realize it existed.

MUST make the free throws and easy shots tomorrow. We have zero room for error, and even with a perfect game, we will still need some help from them to pull it out. The bigs have to find a way to stay out of foul trouble and stay in the game. IMO, we should play the same strategy we did last time against them. Make Marshall beat us, and hope for some better individual defense from whomever is guarding him, while doubling their big guys. Dang proud of the PACK and how we have played the last four games, all games that were must haves. They still leave my stomach in knots, but we just need to keep surviving and advancing.

  25. rockpile 03/09/2012 at 6:30 PM #

box and one on marshall tomorrow. dont care what the consequences are. we have tried everything else….let em beat us 4 on 4. and bring raymond in and let him hack him to save zo and aj’s legs.
