Pack/Hoyas: Sunday 12:15

This is a brave, new, surreal world for the Wolfpack, who will play deeper into March than their Tobacco Road brethren over in Durham.

State will face Georgetown Sunday at 12:15 (it will also be the only game on, too). We’re due a little revenge, too: some of you may remember that State lost to Georgetown in the 1989 Sweet Sixteen after “the worst call in NCAA Tournament history.”

Fun fact: State’s 58.5% FG% was the highest for a team in the NCAA Tournament since 1989 (per ESPN bottom line).

More to come.

    Tvopack,

This is all done tongue-in-cheek. She knows it is a friendly little jab and she finds it humorous. Nothing sinister here. And it WAS light blue. I was near the aisle when he walked out of the arena, through the NCSU fan seats yesterday. I did NOT pull him aside and make any helpful suggestions.

However, it is STILL a record, I believe. Just too many years of being a beleagured WP fan. I can NO longer purchase light blue clothing items lest I be considered a passenger of the FLAGSHIP.

Actually one person showed up with a very LOUD UNC shirt yesterday at the game with four of his WP Buddies. He feined some confusion as to which team was playing. The INFORMAL STUDENT cheerleaders in our section razzed him some and some folks took his picture. I guess he got his five minutes of fame. Did he make the crowd shots?

    GO PACK

A couple of quotes I wanted to highlight (one from last night’s open thread):

“It took a lot of enabling to prop up a Duke team that bad for 13 ACC wins.”

^Find someone that can sensibly and rationally argue against this.

    ……

“Gottfried, in his FIRST YEAR, just matched the best year Herb had in TEN YEARS with 23 wins.”

    ^BUT … Tendencies! … Own Players! … Impossible! … Excuse #1! … Excuse #10,045! … Rabble! … Rabble! Rabble! (South Park FTW!)

EDIT: Going out drinking after a State win in the NCAAT and watching Duke lose to Lehigh in the NCAAT around Duke fans is mad fun. I made a way fool of myself last night, but that’s par for the course. Difference was that it totally worth it last night!

And FTR, I don’t hate Duke – but I do hate how they are propped up and enabled.

The blue shirts are an issue? Really?

I consider myself a wolfpacker through and through (a little too much for my friends sake that are not NC State grads), but 1/3 of my shirts are “corporate blue”. It is part of the uniform of my job.

They look professional and that is what we should want in our coaches. It seems the coaches that were more worried about their appearance/perception (football/basketball with apparel gimics) should have worried a bit more about the product on the court/field.

We should be beating them on the regular before too long.
Already there. Gottfried has a 0.500 record against the blues (1-0 against Duke and 1-2 against UNC-CH) as far as I’m concerned. Obviously the record doesn’t reflect that, but that shouldn’t prevent Gottfried and the players from receiving an accurate level of credit.

And his dress is perfectly professional, which is the image we want to convey.
Agreed. A welcome departure from knee length suit jackets, and pants that drag the floor.

“MG can coach in footie pajamas as long as he wins”

As long as there is a big block S on the assflap. In response to bad calls, rather than taking off the jacket and slinging it over his shoulder, he can just turn around and drop the flap.

    And another thing…
Huge kudos to Bobby Lutz. He’s doing a great job of game prep and isn’t in the limelight very much. We appreciate you, Bobby!

Shirts don’t matter. Everyone knows that the necktie is the best evidence of team loyalty!

Wonder if amile recognizes that next year his best shot for a long run in the ncaa tourney may lay with state!

    OK,

I’ll stop with the light blue shirt deal…..we actually have a pretty good record. But, since it seems to stir up our “rabid” fan base, I will not add further fuel to this blazing inferno.

Who is refing the Syracuse game today. My TV is not as big as I would like, but it SURE looks like KH. Now, I don’t always spot him properly. Did anyone catch the intro or get a good shot at him?

Referees for SU-Kansas State game: Karl Hess, Terry Wymer, Ron Groover.

His presence was definitely noticed – check these tweets:
“Karl Hess just overruled a walk on Henriquez from practically midcourt. Called a foul on CJ instead. Awful.”

“I think one referee just told Karl Hess “Don’t you ever over-rule me from the other side of the court again.”

“We’ve got eight fouls in four minutes. Stripes are going to need oxygen at this rate.”

Hess also did the Big East tourney last week after “declining the ACC invitation”.

Hopefully they keep his fat ass in the East Regional and out of the Final Four!

I can sympathize with the kicked in door bjd, I distinctly remember hurling a giant bowl of popcorn across the room and screaming “damnit” after the walk call on corch. My mom had a long talk with me regarding the relevant significance of the game in the context of overall life and emphasized that she did not expect her 10 yr old son to behave that way.
My reaponse was simply “but we got robbed!”
