Friday Night Revelry/Getting Above the “First Four” Thread

Now that the Pack is 99 percent in the dance…can we skip the Tues/Wed preliminaries? Yes, if everything breaks right.

St Bonaventure’s win helped us, for sure. A Miami win ensures us of 4 Top 50 wins for the season. The hot mess that is the Pac 12 tourney rages onward.

Some games we can now just watch for fun, as we let our heart rates get back to normal. Go Hokies!!

    Here’s my take:

As far as tonight’s bubble rooting interests:

I think we need to root for Miami. We NEED those two extra top 50 wins.
Root for Oregon State against Arizona
Root for Ole Miss against Tennessee
    Root for Dayton against Xavier
San Diego St. over Colorado St.
Cal over Colorado (to keep someone extra from the Pac12 from slipping in)
Long Beach State over UC Irvine
    Louisiana Tech over Nevada
I say Texas over Mizzou. We’re riding Texas as our best win and them beating Mizzou could help us.
VPI over Duke on the off chance that it will make them top 100, and make our ACC championship easier.
Root for SLU over La Salle

I say cheer against Texas, so they stay on the “First Four” line and we maybe pass them. But that’s iffy.

We most definitely want a Xavier loss. A pity the A-10 games aren’t on here.

Texas is a toss up. I think that a win by them helps us more than it hurts us. Oh and I added another A10 rooting interest.

I say we break out all black unitards for tomorrow.

I know BJD will be jealous.

  5. wufpup76 03/09/2012 at 7:50 PM #

Bjd – I’ve got the A10 games on Comcast on DirecTv – channel 642. For anyone that has Direct.

  6. wufpup76 03/09/2012 at 7:51 PM #

    Yes, black unis for tomorrow.

  7. CaptainCraptacular 03/09/2012 at 7:54 PM #

Need Cal to win the Pac-12.

  8. theTHRILL 03/09/2012 at 8:00 PM #

If we were truly “99% in,” that would mean it wouldn’t matter which teams won or lost other games. As it stands, there’s still a long list of games that could have an effect on our status. Therefore, I’d say we’re probably in the “70% in” range.

  9. BJD95 03/09/2012 at 8:04 PM #

I now want teams that might be on existing 11/12 lines to lose so we can move up within the dance. No longer think we might get left out.

    Maybe 95-98 percent, if 99 is over-optimistic.

Don’t wear the god damn black unis tomorrow. 0-2 all time

actually i don’t care. come out in those baylor neons if it helps us beat carolina

  11. WilmyWolf 03/09/2012 at 8:09 PM #

ESPN guys talking about State during a Duke game… were the Mayans right??

  12. 1.21 Jigawatts 03/09/2012 at 8:10 PM #

So no one wants the uni-TARDS??

  13. 1.21 Jigawatts 03/09/2012 at 8:11 PM #

    Seth-Cam!!!

  14. BJD95 03/09/2012 at 8:15 PM #

Everytime I flip to the ACC, Duke goes on a run. So I will stick with Cincy kicking Syracuse’s ass, thank you very much. 🙂

We were 67.81% at the Dance Card before the win today. I have to think we’ve moved into the high 80s or 90th percentile. Even so, if we lose to the holes and some completely off the charts teams win the remaining tournies (like VT in the ACC, Colorado or AZ in the Pac-12, so on) then I’ll still be sweating it come time for the selection show.

I really don’t want us to get stuck in the play-in round. With a straight up 11 seed I could see us knocking on the door of a sweet 16. We can play with the potential 3 seeds.

A 9 or 10 seed or a 12 seed with the play-in game, and there’s no way we make it to the sweet 16. But hey, I’ll be happy that we are in the dance period.

  16. BJD95 03/09/2012 at 8:21 PM #

Wow, Baylor. That really does qualify as a fashion risk. Perhaps their equipment manager is color blind?

  17. theTHRILL 03/09/2012 at 8:22 PM #

I’m thinking we should root against Miami. I just don’t see the ACC getting 6 teams in, so another impressive win by Miami over FSU could shift the voting in their favor…and it would also keep them alive to notch yet another huge win for themselves tomorrow.

  18. BJD95 03/09/2012 at 8:28 PM #

The committee has said it doesn’t care how many bids a conference gets. So it’s fine for Miami to win.

Would also make for a statistical oddity if Da U joins us in da dance. The ACC would then send zero teams to the NIT.

  19. MrPlywood 03/09/2012 at 8:28 PM #

If State does get in I hope they get sent out to Portland, so I could seriously consider a trip down to see them…

  20. CaptainCraptacular 03/09/2012 at 8:30 PM #

Another win by Miami would totally solidify their top 50 status, meaning more top 50 wins for our resume and seeding. As it is now they are right on the line. 4-8 sounds a lot better vs top 50 than 2-8. Would like to see a Miami-VT 2nd semifinal.

  21. Howler 03/09/2012 at 8:34 PM #

NIT stands for Not In da Tournament. I can do without seeing any of that crap on TV. 3rd string announcers, no HD, horrible stuff

  22. theTHRILL 03/09/2012 at 8:36 PM #

Regardless, we’re competing against Miami for one of the remaining at-large bids. I don’t want them to improve their resume….although I understand that it will improve our resume in the process.

  23. theTHRILL 03/09/2012 at 8:40 PM #

Michigan on the verge of losing to lowly Minnesota. Lunardi has them in as a 12 seed. Could this possibly move them to the bubble. Also, isn’t UVa’s win over Michigan considered their signature win?

  24. TheAliasTroll 03/09/2012 at 8:47 PM #

I think Baylor’s going hunting after the game.

  25. CaptainCraptacular 03/09/2012 at 8:52 PM #

We aren’t going heads up vs Miami for the last remaining bid. The more our resume improves, the less we have to worry about playing in the play-in round on Tuesday.
