First Four Open Thread

Isn’t it wonderful that the tournament is starting? Even more wonderful that the Pack is invited? Even more wonderful still that we get three days of appetizers before State and SDSU tip off?

Tonight, we can cheer on Iona College, for giving us V (and the “Jim Valvano, I-own-a college” joke he loved to tell). March is really here, and how sweet it is.

I dunno, they are putting on a clinic right now. Never seen anything like it.

My point is BYU is not really that great of a team and Iona is just making sure everyone realizes it. They are amazing…

Machado close to double double in first half (points/assists). I hope they hit 120. 🙂

I just went back and looked at RPI and counted how many mid majors are in the top 64. A quick count shows 25. That’s plenty. Davidson would be the first out, BTW.

I know Clark is genius and all, but you don’t bounce the ball to try and get your balance. You bounce the ball so you won’t be called for traveling when you lose your balance.

Iona hit a bit of a wall down the stretch. Damn it, was hoping to go to bed at halftime. 🙂

Is it bad that I’m kinda pulling for Akron?

I love it. On the NW/Akron game, Fracshilla is talking some BS and Patrick is looking at him with the blankest look I’ve ever seen. I think he just realized it wasn’t Elmore sitting next to him.

So, after both of my picks for tonight’s games blow big leads and lose, I’m off to a terrific 0-2 start on my bracket…

    I feel like Mike Greenberg…

That BYU comeback was nothing short of incredible. I thought they were dead in the water. Your heart does have to go out to Iona, but they just didn’t seal the deal. Man, they looked great there in the first half. I can definitely see how they deserved a bid now.

55 points in the first 15 minutes, 17 points in the final 25. I never would have believe it had I not seen it with my own eyes.

I think this Dave Rose fella can coach a little bit. He’s certainly royalty in the in-game adjustments realm. Wow.

Iona had a meltdown even Herb would have been proud of. How can a team score 55 in the first 16 min and the score 7 in the next 16 1/2 min. I’ve never heard of such a thing. And damnit, just like the first game, I turned off the game at half-time because I figured it was over and needed to get some sleep. I watched the first half of two games and missed the best halves of both games.

For all those, here and in the media, who commented on a sighting of the ghost of Jimmy V., I certainly hope they were wrong, otherwise the crazy Italian’s powers are muchly overrated.

I will be looking in the rafters of the Nationwide arena on Friday hoping spot something that appears to be an apparrition in a wam-up and maybe smelling the scent of a good cigar and marinara sauce.

I guess this is why your have a full game and not just one half.
