With the exception of having Duke 1, this is the best possible senerio for us to work our way into the big dance.

That is two very winnable games to start out the toruney with. 5th seed is not shabby at all after being in the cellar all those last few years.

I like our chances of winning the first two; I certainly put us at a better than 50% chance of coming out of there with 2 wins. I don’t like the UNC draw, but maybe they’ll sleep walk through the tournament. I’m sure we’ll end up with a 7 PM game against UVA followed by a noon game with UNC.

  4. BJD95 03/04/2012 at 9:08 PM #

Please beat Georgia Tech, Miami. Pretty please.

  5. burnbarn 03/04/2012 at 9:10 PM #

We can hope WFU or Md can knock off Holes… I like the set up and if we get to UVa, we owe thenm one!

  6. TheAliasTroll 03/04/2012 at 9:20 PM #

why is our logo so small?

    probably a conspiracy

  7. Wulfpack 03/04/2012 at 9:22 PM #

I don’t think there is much chance the Heels lose to Wake or Maryland. I watched their last game with the Terps, and they had no answer for the inside power of UNC. It won’t be any different. Fortunately, if we meet UNC it will mean we would have won two to get there, which may be enough with the way the bubble is working out. Win 2 and we have a fighter’s chance.

Loved Gott’s post game remarks with the hideous Jeanine Brown. “I can get on my soap box now. Look out Joey Brackets, we’re comin’ after you.”

this worked out WAAAAY better than i predicted.
we really have a 2-win chance. i’ve always ‘heard’
the NCAA regards a conference tournament game as
just another game. if so, we are set up to succeed.
if we don’t, it’s our own *@#% fault.

Odds are very favorable we’ll get another crack at the tarholes and their referees.

  11. MISTA WOLF 03/04/2012 at 10:26 PM #

+1 Sparta. The bracket has fell right into our lap. Win Thursday first then Friday, and have a good showing Saturday, then we will be in the tournament. We get our butts kicked Saturday by UNC and we won’t be playing in the dance.

I just hope we dont pull a lookahead and flop against BC

Does Miami beating GT also work against us since they are one of the teams that we are fighting with for the tournament? Does the boost in RPI of them winning offset any negative that can become of this?

  14. BJD95 03/04/2012 at 10:38 PM #

Getting two extra Top 50 wins outweighs any bubble competition issues. That’s the weak point of our resume.

I honestly don’t see how we possibly lose to BC. We already played about as bad as humanly possible in Chestnut Hill, and still won. Sort of the inverse of playing the Holes (where our best effort at home isn’t nearly enough).

  15. JEOH2 03/04/2012 at 10:43 PM #

I can dig what you’re saying BJD being that the top 50 wins are the weak point…but we don’t want either TX or The U to have a better resume overall…

I think we need Miami to beat GT and lose to FSU…cannot have them stealing a bid from us, but we’ll need their RPI to be above 50…

The question is what will we need from Texas…do we want them to beat ISU to jump in the Top 50 or do we want them to lose? Again we don’t want Texas stealing a bid…but we need them in top 50…

It’d also be nice for Stanford to perform well in the Pac-12 tourny to jump back in the top 100…

All this is moot if we fail to beat BC & UVA…

  16. tuckerdorm1983 03/04/2012 at 10:45 PM #

one game at a time. less than a month ago BC beat FSU. I am sure Gott is telling them exactly that.

  17. john of sparta 03/04/2012 at 10:45 PM #

BJD…BC in the ATL as loose as could be.
nothing to lose. shoot ’em if you got ’em.
BC beats us by 20 or goes away.

Stranger things have happened. Our past two coaches made runs to the championship game in their first seasons. Herb with the “poor mans ‘slab five'” and Sid with the “six gimps.”

In each case we beat pretty good Duke teams in the semis.

  19. Ashman87 03/04/2012 at 11:37 PM #

Well here’s the way I look at it. We have two very winnable games, one versus B.C. and should we win against the Eagles a game versus UVA. Should we win both of those games, I think we should get in provided that the mid major tournaments aren’t filled with upsets (thankfully, we’ve dodged bullets with Murray State and Creighton). Should we lose either of these games (particularly the one against the Eagles), we don’t deserve to be in the NCAA Tournament.

  20. choppack1 03/04/2012 at 11:41 PM #

Right now Statsheet has our RPI at 54 (or 55)…That’s really good for us considering the current conference breakdowns out there.

Beat BC and UVa – and we dance even w/ a loss the heels. Heck, win those 2 games and lose to UNC, we’ve probably got a Top 45 RPI on Selectino Sunday.

We didn’t play that great to start, if it was UVA they would have capitalized. VT shot poorly, but credit our defense, which we are going to need against UVA snippers, if we get past BC

  22. JSRy2k 03/05/2012 at 12:46 AM #

Alias, I was thinking the same thing
…and why is MD’s logo so dang large? The huge Dook D is the sort of thing we’ve come to expect but, really, why such a disparity in logo sizes???

  23. Wufpacker 03/05/2012 at 1:07 AM #

Like the way we’re playing right now. Keep the confidence and take a little bit better care of the ball and we might be able to do some damage.

  24. Avid109 03/05/2012 at 6:42 AM #

I like the fact that when VT started to rally, our guys hit the accelerator and regained a comfortable lead. That’s something that our team has had a problem with.

So long as they stay focused on the game at hand, they ought to be able to beat BC (and maybe even get some good minutes from the bench). A rematch with UVa would be nice.

Texas plays Iowa State, who finished 3rd in the Big 12. The Longhorns lost a very important post player for the rest of the season to a dislocated wrist in the game against KU on Saturday night.
