Pack/Devils Game Thread

Or if you prefer, the game against a Blue that we can win. And I stand pat in asserting that the Pack WILL win. One factor that I forgot to mention in my initial upset predicting post – Thursdays are good luck. Tonight, it’s all coming up Milhouse.

In the meantime, we can discuss topics such as the televised root canal that is VPI at FSU. Yeesh.

“swamppack, i wish that was true. I’ve just been around long enough, played in and coached in enough competitive contests, to know that the zebras and the umpires rarely decide the outcome.”

I the light of the new day I re-evaluated your comments.

I still come to the conclusion that you are an idiot or a troll.

^ and you, sir, I’m guessing has never laced em up beyond anything above church league or YMCA ball. If you have the attitude as a player or coach that the zebras decide outcomes more so than on-the-court play, then you’ve already lost. There were alternatives last night to sitting players after the 11 minute mark, especially after it was obvious we couldn’t score or stop them. Zone. Play starters with fouls. Expand your bench to actually play another guard who may just be able to guard someone. Johnson got lit up in the second half. Not having CJW killed us because it disrupted the 3 guard rotation, and yes, he was hosed on some calls. I’m thrilled with Gott but he tried to coast to the finish line last night. Rick, take the last word if you will. Namecalling on the internet…now that’s classy.

With every post you make you solidify my opinion of you.

Now that there has been almost 12 hours since the game, my opinion is that each of the players will feel some responsibility for the game. Discounting the correctness or lack thereof of the whistles, CJW did not contribute to the game. We needed our best defender and for whatever reason, we lost him. Howell also fouled out because he got his fouls about 30 feet from the basket. We need a BIG bungee cord on him to keep him doing the “inside” work. Calvin also had a few “brain disconnects”. Scott Wood MISSED free throws and did not provide any REAL scoring, as he does in games that we win (nicely). Lorenzo had a LOT of points, but he also made critical turnovers (especially the one in the last possession). SO, if I were Coach G., I would praise the team effort and say that each member has to “UP” his game a little and NOT make the same simple mistakes. Alex Johnson should, IMHO, has been the MVP. He came in and scored some very critical and motivating baskets. FSU is coming to town. There is NO time to dwell over a loss, except to learn from it. Many folks wanted to come into Cameron and play a GREAT game and NOT be embarassed by DUKE like we were by UNC. THEN, we got this big old lead and got the big head and did not deliver at the end. We showed that we can play like a big time team, even with some adversity. In the end, the same mentality set in. We were sure that we would win, once we got to a 20 point lead. Then they whittled it down and we got back into the HOPING to win attitude. All in all, a very good showing, but no W. We need a W tomorrow, especially at home.

Last time we wore black was what looked to be an epic beatdown of MD in Cole Field House, followed by an epic collapse and ensuing 7 game losing streak that undid what would have been Herb Sendek’s first NCAA team in 1999-2000.

Also reminds me of the beatdown we thought we were giving the Blue Devils in the ’03 ACC Tourney Championship before JJ Redick broke our hearts. It’s damn scary to get such a large lead against a good Duke team. Ask Gary Williams of his first Final Four trip. Hell hath no fury like a Coach K team against the ropes. You don’t want it differently, but few can finish the job.
