    Ugly win.

  2. jpack 02/09/2012 at 9:40 PM #

Might be the worst game Wood has ever played at NCSU

  3. Wulfpack 02/09/2012 at 9:42 PM #

    0-for-3.

  4. MrPlywood 02/09/2012 at 9:44 PM #

Already the most ACC wins in 6 years.

  5. GoldenChain 02/09/2012 at 9:48 PM #

Plywood, 18W’s is probably the most for the 9th of feb in more years than that!

What a freakin ugly game. But a road win is a road win in the ACC.

I thought that even though our guys played pretty crappy at times, that they showed a determination not to give up. Even with all the fouls, during the last few minutes our defense was pretty clutch (perimeter wise).

Last season we were losing ugly. This season we’re winning ugly.

    That’s beautiful.

Ugly game, yes — but a good win. The ACC is FILLED with teams that want to make the game methodical and ugly. We used to be one of those teams, especially in the early years of Sendek. Look around the conference. There are a ton of teams that want to milk the shotclock, hit their 3’s, beat you up on the defensive end, and make you win in the half-court.

On a night when we could never find any rhythm, I’m just happy that we could gut this one out.

I agree bogman. Ugly game? Check. Played pretty poorly? Check.

But I thought an overwhelmingly great sign is that we ran the lead back up to 11 points after they had cut it to 4 points at the under 4:00 timeout.

Let’s be honest, no matter who we were playing in the past nearly all of us knew or expected a loss down the stretch when the other team was making a run. Great sign that we responded and closed it out.

Four conference road wins. Who cares who they’re against – that’s amazing for this team and we can still get more.

Since I wasn’t relegated to the on line TV tonight I read the entire thread after the game and you guys were only slightly more negative than me overall. The next three games will be mighty tough but I think we can pull one of them off.

CJ Williams is our MVP. He does everything. We will miss him tremendously next year. I just love watching him play.

    Listening to the postgame –

I love Gary Hahn and think he does a great job. One thing I’ve never been able to stand about him though is his “we should quiver before our opponents” attitude.

During the interview with Coach Gottfried, Hahn lamented that we had to play the top 3 teams in the conference coming up. Understandable, but his tone was that we should be scared – and he does this after pretty much every game.

Refreshingly, Gottfried was quick to turn it around and say we “get” to play these teams and what an opportunity it was. Thank God. Enough of this ‘let’s be scared!’ BS.

Total culture change. Even our radio guys need it.

Imagine if CJW had good coaching from day 1…

Listen, as bad as these teams are, winning on the road is tough…and sometimes even harder in an unnatural, dead arena…as BC should remind us all…on any given night, any team can beat another team at home…

    Good win State

I hope like hell CJW makes all-ACC. He’s on my second team ballot right now.

    @61 – my thoughts exactly.

It looked like zo and Calvin were trying to show off for scouts, which of course led to stupid shots and ugly turnovers.

And stupid turnovers and ugly shots for that matter.

Glad we won, but if GT makes 4-17 instead of 1-17 from three then we have another inexplicable loss

  16. tuckerdorm1983 02/09/2012 at 10:42 PM #

We have gone from being horrible to respectable. Not Great but pretty good. We have 3 and possibly 4 Mcdonalds all americans arriving next fall. With only 1 player leaving by seniority and everyone else staying including most likely CJL, we will be set. The future is so hot it burns my eyes.

“Glad we won, but if GT makes 4-17 instead of 1-17 from three then we have another inexplicable loss”

But they didn’t. If State had beat GT in Raleigh, they would be in first. But they didn’t.

In Gary Hahn’s defense, when you have to announce thru the Lowe, Sendek and (I think) Robinson years, you probably get a little gun shy and fall into some bad habits. Not to mention that LF probably encouraged him to play to such a slant.

  19. wufpup76 02/10/2012 at 12:06 AM #

^LOL. Fair enough and good points Wufpacker.

  20. Wufpacker 02/10/2012 at 12:38 AM #

I actually like Hahn as well, but I can’t help but think some of those leaner years might have been more entertaining if we had an announcer more like Harry Doyle, as portrayed by master thespian Bob Uecker, from the “Major League” movies.

“Ah the hell with it. Nobody’s listening anyway.”

several mentions of Adrian Branch in this thread – does everyone like him? I do not like him at all – he talks non-stop throughout the game. Way too much and often it is random stuff that is either obvious or wrong or just plain dumb. He does not know how to stop talking.

Or am I the only one that does not like him?
