FSU/NCSU game day thread

I am not sure I have much left in me. FSU has been missing from three for a while now so it means we will probably see their best shooting in weeks. After the last game, I expect the refs to let them play which is to FSU’s advantage.
We can still make the tournament if we win this game.

sorry BJD, Wood should not play.

Need to pick up some energy and try to match FSU. This is a little disappointing.

Bob Sura. I forgot about that dude. Major pain.

    Is CJ Williams playing today?

  4. Wufpacker 02/18/2012 at 2:34 PM #

You wanna know how bad we’re shooting, with or without CJL? Take his stats out and we have hit only one other shot from the floor. CJW is 1-2 from the floor….everyone else is O-fer. Leslie is 5-8, btw.

Bench Wood, right. Why stop there, take his scholly and kick him off the team.

De Thaey and Tyler Harris need a few minutes each game if we plan on making it through the ACC tournament.

We struggle to score in the half court, especially against teams with comparable or superior athletes. No surprises. But the turnovers, also a problem all year, are more about being sloppy with the ball. Like that’s Brown’s been more aggressive off the dribble, but we need somebody else who can create their own shot besides CJL and Lo.

    and….scene.

  9. eas 02/18/2012 at 2:37 PM #

    And Raymond too

Other than CJL, our bigs struggle offensively against athletic frontcourt players with length. Similar to UNC, not a good matchup for us. Gonna have to try to speed up the game in the second half to have a chance.

On the plus side, outside of CJL, we can’t shoot any worse. And after Thursday would you rather be up big at the half and in foul trouble or down big with the other team in foul trouble.

FSU plays aggressive D, but they literally foul on every possession. Maybe their whole team will foul out and we’ll pull away at the end. That sounds kind of familiar for some reason.

After after we dump that loser Wood, we need to fire Gott and replace him with monkey board posters.

  13. Whiteshoes67 02/18/2012 at 2:40 PM #

Not a knock on Gott, but another note, Greg Marshall’s Shockers look really good. COmpletely dismantled a decent Davidson team. Look out for them in the NCAA

Well, hopeful for a comeback but I think the script is already written.

A comeback would be a lot of fun though. Don’t see it.

I’m with Bjd – I hope we get to 9-7. I think that would be monumental after the past 5 seasons AND the job we got in Durham the other night.

Howell has all of our missed free throws lolll.

    “Note a knock on Gott,”

Right, one thing you are good at is running down Gott

  16. Wufpacker 02/18/2012 at 2:42 PM #

FSU is not in foul trouble. They have a deep bench and none of them have more than two fouls currently.

  17. Whiteshoes67 02/18/2012 at 2:42 PM #

If we can limit TO’s to about 5 in second half, shoot about 40-50%, we’ll have a good chance to win this one still…but that’s a big, big chore

  18. redcanine 02/18/2012 at 2:43 PM #

Wood is paying solid D, but his shooting needs to warm up.

Also, Howell doesn’t need to dribble the ball ever again. Just jump in the air and fire it off the glass.

  19. bigbel27 02/18/2012 at 2:44 PM #

Wood is the only chance we have of making a 3 pointer on a consistent basis, have to ride him, just in a slump right now, just need one to get going.

  20. Rochester 02/18/2012 at 2:44 PM #

We need Staats Battle to go all Jeremy Lin in the second half and smoke FSU out of Raleigh.

  21. Whiteshoes67 02/18/2012 at 2:45 PM #

^..Rick, you’re clueless. I questioned some decision making last game but have otherwise been nothing but complimentary of what Gottfried has done with this team all year. Very excited. But I do like Marshall, and would’ve loved to have him at State. I make no bones about that.

  22. BJD95 02/18/2012 at 2:45 PM #

Agree re matchup – it’s not quite as bad as against UNC…but still really bad.

  23. eas 02/18/2012 at 2:45 PM #

Anyone else think it is strange that we only see 7-8 players in an entire game? I know the bench is not strong but we need to open up the rotation. 1-2 minute rests for our normal 7 would be huge.

    Get Wood off the court.

  24. wufpup76 02/18/2012 at 2:45 PM #

The directive is clear: Attack the basket.

  25. wolfie91 02/18/2012 at 2:45 PM #

We really did need Wood to get hot early. Surely we’ll make more shots in the 2nd half. Coming off that emotional loss and knowing what this game means for the season has the team and the fans wound up tight, plus the defense.
